New E/R CLOGSAG Chairman preaches unity

The newly elected Eastern Regional Chairman of Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), Mahamood Shakil Kpedau, has charged members of the Association to, as a matter of importance, stop the seeming tensions, bickering and show of bravado among themselves.

According to the Eastern Regional CLOGSAG chairman, the interest of CLOGSAG supersedes individual interests and that  it was high time members arrested the self-cantered spirit and rather work together to improve the lives of members.

He made the remark in his acceptance speech on Wednesday, after the well-attended regional conference in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region. He advised members not to belittle the wisdom of the framers of the association’s constitution.

According to him, it is not for nothing that they (framers) proposed three (3) Executives at the District level, five (5) Executives at the Regional Level, as well as nine (9) Executives at the National Level, who are ably supported by some Directors.

It,  therefore, stands to reason that no one person can do it alone and we should bear that in mind at all times, he said, adding that no Chairman can be effective without the Secretary and Organiser.

Touching on strategies to improve effective participation and welfare of members, Mahamood Shakil Kpedau urged the Executive Secretary to provide souvenirs for all members.

According to him, his visit to all the 33 Districts show that their members value and cherish even the “T” Shirts they give them, adding that this will undoubtedly be used by the District Executives as a trump card to mobilize non-members.

He called on the leadership of the Association to consider the establishment of a Medical Fund for Complex Medical Condition.

Mahamood Shakil Kpedau hinted that “just this month we lost a very young hardworking and enterprising lady Human Resource Manager (HRM) at New Juaben South Municipal Assembly.

I believe there are several members who have faced similar predicaments and it’s high time we start the establishment of a Medical Fund for Complex Conditions such as Cancer, Brain tumor, Stroke, etc for members, even if we will be required to commit a fixed amount for such a fund if established”.

He further appealed to the leadership to organise an orientation program for all Executives in the Region, since it will go a long way to improve the working relationship of the executives and the ideals and tenants of the Association can equally be imbibed into those who lead the Association at the grassroots level.
