Kardashian, Thompson and True in a pose

Khloé Kardashian quickly shut down a rumor claiming she’s “seeing another NBA player.”

“Definitely NOT True !!!” the reality star commented on an Instagram post of a screenshot from gossip account @deuxmoi, in which someone alleged they “heard” she was dating another basketball star.

“I love you! Thank you for the nice wishes but I am not seeing a soul. I am happy focusing on my daughter and myself for awhile. ”

Kardashian, 37, has notoriously dated professional basketball players over the years, including Rashad McCants, Lamar Odom and James Harden.

She last dated Chicago Bulls star Tristan Thompson on and off since 2016. However, their relationship ran its course after Thompson, 31, cheated on her several times.

Earlier this week, Kardashian had to relive the moment she found out Thompson had cheated on her again and fathered a baby with Maralee Nichols during the finale of Hulu’s “The Kardashians.”

The Good American founder, who initially broke down sobbing and called the infidelity “despicable,” said that everyone “deserve[s] forgiveness and most of all … LOVE” while live-tweeting the finale episode.

Despite all the drama between the two, the exes remain amicable as they continue to co-parent their 4-year-old daughter, True.

Nigeria Stock Exchange

Nigerian stocks capped a bearish week with depreciation worth N749.8 billion on Friday as the main equity index shed 1.21 per cent, a retreat triggered by sell-off in bank shares.

It has been an especially difficult week for bank stocks in finding investors, which has set the banking index (the benchmark that tracks the top lenders by market capitalisation and liquidity) on a free fall since the start of the trading week.

MTN Nigeria contributed most to the plunge with support from big lenders like Zenith, GTCO, Access Corporation and FBN Holdings.

The bourse posted a negative breadth as 11 losers emerged against 24 advancers.

The all-share index dropped 633 points to 51,778.1, while market capitalisation eased to N27.9 trillion.

Since the beginning of the year, the index has returned 21.2 per cent.

Pastor Ayodele tells Peter Obi

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Monday, warned a South-East presidential hopeful, Peter Obi against his presidential ambition.

Primate Ayodele disclosed that Obi cannot contest the presidential election and win, hence he should resign from politics or help suffering Nigerians with his resources.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, the cleric attested to Obi’s leadership qualities, but noted that he doesn’t have the backing of God for the presidential election, coupled with the fact that he was misled into joining another party to pursue his ambition.

He also mentioned that South-East leaders have successfully jeopardized the chances of the zone in the 2023 presidential ambition.

Ayodele noted that the coming generation will remember their actions and curse them for bringing such a predicament to the zone.

“There is no way Peter Obi can contest and win, it’s either he resigns from politics or wastes his money. Better still, he should help Nigerians that are suffering with his resources.

“He was misled into joining the Labour Party to pursue his presidential ambition; he has missed it, Igbos have missed it already, their generations to come will remember this and curse them.

“The South-East political leaders have successfully jeopardized the chances of the Igbos and turned the zone to something else.

“Igbo have no leaders; they don’t like themselves at all, Peter Obi is a fantastic leader, but he cannot become the next president of Nigeria, any party that gives him ticket will be a waste of time.”

Primate Ayodele had warned the South-East leaders not to allow the presidency elude them in 2023 because of their selfish interests and betrayal.

He had noted that for peace to reign, the South-East deserves to produce a president but if the leaders are not careful, they will miss it.

The comment by Catholic priest, Rev. father Ejike Mbaka describing Presidential candidate Peter Obi as a stingy man has continued to stir reactions.

Mbaka had during his latest ministration at the Adoration ministry in Enugu State stated that unless Obi seeks God’s forgiveness he cannot be Nigeria’s president

According to him, it’s better to have an old man as Nigeria’s next president, than a ‘stingy man’.

Popular Instagram celebrity, Pascal Okechukwu, known as Cubana Chiefpriest, reacting to Mbaka’s statement, urged Nigerians to get their PVCs, adding that the Holy Spirit does not vote.

Alongside a picture of Father Mbaka on his Instagram page, Cubana wrote: “Mr. Money with the vibes right now. No sleep, wake up, collect your money.

“Please get your PVC, Holy Spirit no Dey vote.”

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church has dissociated itself from Mbaka’s political comments.

The Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu, Rev Ernest Obodo, in a statement on Thursday said Mbaka’s inflammatory political comments were divisive and contravened the Canon Law which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming the good name of a person.

Boat accident in Anambra

A pregnant woman, one female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, a 70-year -old chief, have been confirmed among the passengers lost their lives in a boat mishap on Saturday between Otuan and Ayama communities of Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State. Also among the victims is a mother with her two kids.

The 70-year-old, Chief Lucky Daniels, is from Otuan community and also a father to a journalist in the state.

The boat and the corpses of the victims are still missing at the time of this report with rescue and search efforts ongoing at Ayama Community.

DAILY POST gathered that the boat, with a capacity to carry 15 passengers, rammed into a barrier while trying to berth close to Ayama community. It was also gathered that the afternoon rain storm, which made all the passengers cover themselves with Tarpaulin and reduced visibility may have contributed to the disaster.

Domo Timi, a journalist, whose father was one of the victims of the accident, said on the telephone that “my father was involved and rescue teams have been dispatched to check the scene for possible rescue”.

He however expressed confidence in more survivors due to the fact that most passengers were putting on life jackets.

The elected Chairman of the Maritime Union in Otuan Community, Joseph Shedrack told DAILY POST, that the boat driver, Lucky Christopher, who survived the accident, has been detained by the Police Unit in Ayama over alleged reckless driving.
”I was chairman of the Union but some persons who claimed to know more than themselves have been taking charge of the Otuan Unit. If I had been around, i would not have allowed the loading of the boat due to poor visibility and bad weather”.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the weather was bad and rain storm started but “those claiming to be acting allowed such trip. I was told a Corps member, two children and a woman died. Even the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor has called me.”

Macron’s majority at risk as France votes in parliamentary election

0
France president Emmanuel Macron

France has begun voting in the final round of parliamentary elections as Emmanuel Macron’s centrists attempt to hold on to their majority against a challenge from a new left alliance.

Sunday’s vote will set the balance of power for Macron’s second term, defining his capacity to deliver domestic policy such as raising the retirement age and overhauling state benefits.

Macron, who was re-elected president in April against the far right’s Marine Le Pen, needs a majority for his centrist grouping in the lower house of parliament in order to have a free hand for his proposals to cut taxes and make changes to the welfare system.

Pollsters have been unable to predict whether Macron will cling on to a majority in what is likely to be a record low turnout.

All polling firms predict that Macron’s centrist alliance, Ensemble, will be the biggest grouping in parliament, but it could fall short of the 289 seats needed for a majority.

Sri Lanka troops open fire to contain unrest over fuel shortages

Sri Lanka troops open fire on protestors

Sri Lanka’s military have opened fire to quell rioting at a fuel station, officials say, as unprecedented queues for petrol and diesel were seen across the bankrupt country.

Troops fired in Visuvamadu, 365km (228 miles) north of Colombo on Saturday night as their guard point was pelted with stones, army spokesperson Nilantha Premaratne said.

“A group of 20 to 30 people pelted stones and damaged an army truck,” he said.

Police said four civilians and three soldiers were wounded when the army opened fire for the first time to contain unrest linked to the worsening economic crisis. As the pump ran out of petrol, motorists began to protest and the situation escalated into a clash with troops, police said.

Sri Lanka is suffering its worst economic crisis since independence, with the country unable to find dollars to import essentials, including food, fuel and medicines.

The nation’s population of 22 million has been enduring acute shortages and long queues for scarce supplies while president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has for months resisted calls to step down over mismanagement.

Sri Lanka has deployed armed police and troops to guard fuel stations.

Heatwave grips France, UK, Spain as temperatures rise

Heatwave grips France, UK, Spain

A punishing heatwave has broken a string of records in France and the UK, as parts of Italy suffer drought and Spain battles to contain forest fires that have forced hundreds from their homes.

The heatwave that began earlier in the week intensified on Friday, bringing temperatures from London to Madrid to new highs, according to national weather services.

The record-setting hot weather is in line with warnings from scientists that heatwaves will be more intense and hit earlier than usual as a result of climate change.

Firefighters battled fires in several regions of Spain, including the northwest Sierra de la Culebra where about 200 people fled their homes as forest fires burned up to 7,000 hectares (17,297 acres) of land. More than 3,000 people were evacuated from the Puy du Fou theme park in central Spain due to a fierce fire nearby.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez praised firefighters “who risk their lives on the front line of fires” as temperatures hit more than 35C in most parts of the country and were expected to reach 40C in some areas. The heatwave that has spread up from north Africa through Spain is also affecting Italy and the United Kingdom.

Dutch prime minister apologises to Srebrenica peacekeepers

0
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte

The Dutch government formally apologised to soldiers sent as UN peacekeepers to defend the Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica with insufficient firepower and manpower to keep the peace.

The soldiers – veterans now – were overrun by more heavily armed Bosnian Serb forces led by General Ratko Mladic, who went on to massacre 8,000 Muslim men and boys in July 1995, in a bloodbath that an international war crimes tribunal labelled genocide.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte addressed hundreds of veterans of the Dutchbat III peacekeeping unit on Saturday at a military base in the central Netherlands, telling them after nearly 27 years,

“Today, I apologise on behalf of the Dutch government to all the women and men of Dutchbat III,” Rutte said.

The Netherlands has long wrestled with the legacy of the Srebrenica massacre. Then-Prime Minister Wim Kok resigned in 2002 after a report harshly criticised Dutch authorities for sending soldiers into a danger zone without a proper mandate or the weapons needed to protect about 30,000 refugees.
