When Ex-President Kufuor dreamt and actualized a flyover for the Suhum Township, many were of the view that a simple underpass could have sufficed to save cost and ultimately achieve the same purpose.
But as my friend Kwaku Babone will say, “you walk from where to say”, thus President Kufuor had his way and the Suhum flyover was birthed.
This flyover was left to fallow for years for no apparent reason(s). Politics had eaten into the very fabric of all decision making/taking and the question as to which Party to credit the edifice with, kept it standing fallow for years. Needless lives were lost on the slip roads on both sides of the flyover especially on the right side as one exited Suhum towards Apedwa, but none cared, for no VIP, Politician or celebrity was a causality.
CRITICS VINDICATED?
I passed over the flyover to and from Kumasi last Wednesday and was appalled to see a mini forest that had engulfed the beautiful edifice on such a busy and prime stretch.
Oh yes, weeds and indeed shrubs had reared their ugly heads on and around the kerb on the infrastructure to the “delight” of the Municipal Assembly as if it is no one’s business.
The safety and health ramifications of these weeds/shrubs that had overshadowed the beauty of the infrastructure is as pregnant as night follows day – the weeds impede the free flow of water gathered thereon whenever there is a down pour culminating in stagnation thereon.
There is a whole Municipal Assembly headed by a Chief Executive with her able lieutenants salaried with the tax payer’s money who look on in blind pretence. Remember, no one takes responsibility in our part of the world.
This is not only saddening, but disheartening that people appointed to such high offices do not exhibit leadership, think through and outside the box in spite of the ‘goodies’ attached to their offices.
A canary bird passing just whispered to me that sanitation and environmental issues within the MMDAs are key determinants in the continued stay in office of MCEs and DCEs – Really?
It is indeed disgraceful sighting weeds/shrubs within the parameters of this edifice and believe the Municipal Assembly needs no one’s prompting before the needful is done.
Suhum Municipal Assembly (SMA), reluctantly l am compelled to prompt you thereon for free and pray my prayer shall not be in vain.
Fractured Peace.
