The Akyem Abuakwa State Council has declared the Etweresohene, Nana Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, persona non grata across all Palaces within the AkyemAbuakwa State, effectively barring him from participating in traditional affairs.

The meeting where Okyeman took the decision

The decision, taken unanimously at an emergency meeting held at the OforiPanin Fie, in Kyebi on Thursday, April 23, 2026 also prohibits him from attending customary events, including funerals and state functions organised under the authority of the Akyem Abuakwa traditional leadership. However, the restriction does not extend to his statutory obligations.

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, the Council cited what it described as persistent acts of insubordination and conduct deemed contrary to the customs and authority of the Okyenhene and the traditional council.

Addressing the matter, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin emphasised that while reconciliation is always possible, certain actions cannot be overlooked.

“Every father will accept a prodigal son, but no father will accept a coup d’etat. That will not happen. Okyeman has never shied away from any challenge and has never been defeated,” he stated.

He further called on the Royal Aduana family of Osenase and Etwereso to present a suitable candidate willing to work in harmony with the OforiPanin Fie.

The Council’s action follows allegations of secessionist conduct and the subsequent stripping of Nana OfosuKwabiAyebiahwe of his Daasebre title.

He is also accused of failing to honour a summons to appear before the Okyenhene and the Standing Committee to respond to the allegations.

In a statement delivered on behalf of the Council, Okyeame Antwi Boasiako Sekyere indicated that the Etweresohene had disregarded an invitation to appear before the traditional authority, citing a medical excuse, only to later re-emerge publicly to announce what the Council described as a “failed secessionist move” at Etwereso, an action reportedly rejected by his own Aduana Royal Family, elders and key stakeholders within the Odau Group.

The Council further accused him of deliberately ignoring repeated summons and refusing to observe sacred customary rites, which symbolise allegiance and respect for the authority of the Okyenhene.

According to the Council, his actions denied him the opportunity to explain his conduct through the appropriate traditional channels. Consequently, formal communication has been sent to the Stool Elders of the Aduana Royal Family of Osenase and Etwereso for further action.

As part of the sanctions, the Council ruled that the declaration of persona non grata applies to all the over 940 towns, villages and settlements under the AkyemAbuakwa State.

It warned that any chief who defies the directive would be deemed to have violated both oral and written oaths of office and would face the necessary customary sanctions.

The Council noted that, in the interest of unity and peace, it had initially exercised restraint despite what it described as repeated breaches of custom by the Etweresohene.

However, it stressed that it could no longer tolerate actions it believes threaten the unity of Okyeman, the sanctity of the OforiPanin Stool and the authority of traditional governance.

It maintained that the decision, though difficult, was necessary to safeguard public order, preserve unity within the state and uphold the dignity and integrity of traditional leadership.
