Mr Joseph Amankwah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwabre East in the Ashanti Region, has officially cut the sod for the construction of a new 24-Hour Economy Model Market at Mamponteng to transform the Municipality into a major commercial hub.
According to him, the facility aims to stimulate round-the-clock economic growth, create jobs, and boost local household incomes. The MCE said the multi-purpose project is being executed under the technical supervision of Eco Planner and Engineering Consult and scheduled for completion within three years.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Mr Amankwah emphasised that the initiative reflects the central government’s commitment to decentralisation and localised economic development.
He disclosed that upon completion, the Mamponteng 24-Hour Economy Market will feature 250 lockable and open-air shops and a Women’s Bank designed to resolve long-standing logistical bottlenecks for local farmers and traders. He noted that the facility will ensure safety, convenience, and community welfare.

According to him, the complex will integrate several vital auxiliary infrastructure components directly into the facility.
He said the master layout secures emergency response and security through a dedicated police post and an on-site fire station, essential health and community welfare services will be managed through an integrated healthcare clinic, an on-site pharmacy, and a day care centre.
The MCE urged the contracting firm and project consultants to adhere strictly to technical specifications, demanding that construction meet the highest quality standards and be delivered on schedule.
He called on residents of Mamponteng and the surrounding communities to cooperate fully with the construction team and take active ownership of the facility once it is commissioned.
Mr. Amankwah expressed gratitude to President John Mahama, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and traditional stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in bringing the development project to fruition.
Barimah Saasi Ayeboafo, Chief of Mamponteng and Chairman of the occasion, commended President John Mahama for taking concrete steps toward fulfilling his “24-Hour Economy” promise with the commencement of the market construction project.
He expressed concern about the abandoned Mamponteng jubilee Market project left to rot by successive governments for over twelve years and wished the resources for the 24-hour Economy Market would be channelled to complete that project.
Barimah Ayeboafo appealed to the government to ensure that the 24-hour Economy Market was completed as scheduled in order not to become a white elephant like the Jubilee market project that has been left to rot.
