The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Ghana STEM Technical School at Sewua in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region has donated 142 dining benches, 70 tables, and a temporary kitchen in support of the school’s dining hall.
The donation is aimed at easing pressure caused by the inadequate furniture for the over 900 student population.
Mr Krobea Asante, Chairman of the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA), explained that the gesture was in line with the PTA’s mandate to come to the aid of the school after realising that furniture at the dining hall was inadequate.
According to him, students had to carry most of the chairs from classrooms to the dining hall whenever it was time for lunch, a situation he described as inconvenient for both students and school authorities.
He also disclosed that the school dormitory started by the previous government remains uncompleted, making it impossible for use by the students. He said this compelled the school authorities to convert the modern kitchen into a dormitory for students.
He noted that the decision forced the matrons of the school to cook in an open and unhygienic space that posed a health hazard to the cooks for which reason, the PTA saw it prudent to provide the school with a temporary kitchen.
Madam Naomi Owusu Aboagye, Headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the PTA, especially the executives, for coming to the aid of the school.
According to her, the furniture would help the school and students in diverse ways and assured the PTA that the school authorities would take good care of the furniture to serve the intended purpose for the benefit of present and future students of the school.
She pleaded with the Ministry of Education to, as a matter of urgency, complete the abandoned Dormitory for the school.
