Flooding in Accra

Heavy rains struck several parts of Ghana on Monday morning, June 29, 2026, triggering widespread flooding and prompting the Ministry of the Interior to order citizens to remain where they are until conditions improve.

In an advisory issued this morning, the Ministry told residents who are home to stay home, and those already at workplaces or other safe locations to remain there. All unnecessary movement has been strongly discouraged.

Motorists and pedestrians have been warned not to attempt crossing flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose deadly risks.

The Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have been deployed across affected areas to monitor the situation, manage traffic, assist victims, and conduct rescue operations where needed.

Residents in flood-prone communities are being urged to move to higher ground and report emergencies to the nearest security or emergency response agency.

Those in need of emergency assistance can reach the Ghana Police Service on 18555 or 112, the Ghana National Fire Service on 192, and NADMO on 112.

The Ministry says it will continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates as necessary.
