Sefwi chiefs unhappy with ethnocentric comments made about their region

The Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council in the Western North Region has called on Ghanaians to rubbish what it described as ethnocentric pronouncements made by a media personality on Onua Television Morning Show, Host Captain Smart.

To this end, the Council would want the public to treat the comments with the highest contempt it deserves, since the Western North Region was not a useless region as allegedly being portrayed by the TV host.

Controversial Captain Smart was alleged to have called the creation of the Western North as one of the useless regions in the country.

This pronouncement has incurred the wrath of the chiefs, who make up the region, to call a press conference last Thursday to express their displeasure with the pronouncement.

The Western North Region was carved from the Western Region in 2018 by the President Akufo-Addo-led administration among the six newly-created regions.

The creation of the region regions was one of President Akufo-Addo’s fulfillments of campaign promises made to the people when voted into power.

The motive behind the creation of the region is to bridge the infrastructure deficit between the Western South and Western North regions.

Nevertheless, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, on his Onua TV morning show programme dubbed Maakye, singled out the Western North Region and described it as the most useless.

The chiefs have, therefore, described his pronouncement as reckless, ignorance, irresponsible and one of who doesn’t know what he was doing.

They stress that as a Journalist, he needed to read and learn more before coming out on his show.

Addressing the press conference, Nana Elluo Panyin II, Kyidomhene of the Sehwi Wiawso Traditional Area and Chief of Sefwi Nzuezua, expressed disappointment at the comments made by Captain Smart.

Nana Elluo Panyin II opined that such comments had the potential of creating anarchy in the country.

He has, therefore, called on the TV Host to render an unqualified apology to the chiefs and people of the region.
