‘Retention of Hannah Bissiw, Opare Addo signifies satisfaction’

A Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has described the victory of Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw and George Opare Addo as a reflection of their good deeds.

According to Prof Gyampo, the retention of the two, as the Women’s and Youths Organisers respectively, means that the delegates were satisfied with their performances during the last elections.

It would be recalled that four years ago, Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw and Mr George Opare were elected as the Women and Youths Organisers respectively, to help organise the party into the 2020 elections.

Though the party lost, the duo put themselves up to seek re-election at the 10th Women and Youth conference which was held at the University of Cape Coast on Saturday, December 9th.

In spite of fierce contestations and stiffer oppositions, the two incumbents maintained their positions when the delegates voted massively to retain them in office.

Speaking to The Chronicle about the outcome of the elections, Professor Gyampo maintained that their victories meant that the delegates have reaffirmed their trust in them.

According to Prof Gyampo, the delegates envisaged that the task ahead of them was not too difficult for the two incumbents, hence their decision to re-elect them for the next general elections.

“Usually, if the task is difficult, people will want to bring onboard those with certain qualities that will help them to surmount the difficult tasks ahead of them”, he stated.

Prof Gyampo further added that, “It appears many of those who decided who must lead the party’s youth and women’s wing did not see the tasks ahead as quite difficult and so that is why they have retained the old executives”.

Women’s Organiser position

The women’s organiser’s position was a fierce contest between Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw, the incumbent and Madam Margaret Ansei, who put up a spirited fight to unseat Dr Bissiw.

Dr Hannah Bissiw garnered 433 to win the position while her contender, Madam Margaret Ansei’s had 362 votes, out of the 1041 valid votes cast.

Youth Organiser position

The incumbent Youth Organiser, Lawyer George Opare Addo, retained his position after obtaining 533 votes, as against 508 votes garnered by this contender, Yaw Brogya Genfi. Saturday’s victory by George Opare Addo, famously known as Pablo, was the second straight victory he has recorded over his main contender, Brogya Gyenfi, after the first victory in 2018.

Mr Osman Abdulai Ayariga polled 373 votes and Miss Ruth DelaSeddoh also managed 313 votes to be elected as Deputy Youth Organisers.

Miss Abigail Akwabea Elorm Mensah secured 341 votes and Madam Felicia Dzifa Tegah garnered 260 votes to be elected as Deputy Women Organisers.
