The Member of Parliament (MP) for Prestea Huni-Valley, Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, has marked his birthday with a significant development initiative by cutting the sod for the construction of a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities each for the people of Abekakrom and Prestea Gambia in the Western Region.
The project, which is expected to improve access to quality education in the two communities, was officially launched during a brief ceremony attended by traditional leaders, residents, local government officials and party supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Cudjoe explained that he deliberately chose to channel resources that could have been spent on his birthday celebrations into a project that would have a lasting impact on the lives of the people.
According to him, education remains one of the most important tools for personal and national development, and investing in school infrastructure is essential to securing a better future for children in the constituency.
“I could have decided to use the money for my birthday celebrations, but I said no. Let me rather top up the Common Fund allocation and use it for the benefit of the people through this school project,” he stated.
The legislator stressed that education is the foundation upon which meaningful development is built, noting that individuals can only make significant contributions to society when they are properly educated.
“Education is everything. Without education, you cannot be useful. It is through education that we become useful to ourselves, our communities and our country. It is also through education that we can achieve development,” he told the enthusiastic crowd.
Cudjoe assured residents that the Abekakrom classroom block was only one of several projects currently being undertaken under his leadership. He disclosed that four additional school projects being constructed in his name across the constituency are expected to be completed before the end of the year.
He further revealed that efforts are underway to provide potable water to deprived communities through the construction of boreholes, aimed at improving living conditions and addressing longstanding water challenges facing some communities.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to using his tenure in office to pursue projects that directly impact the welfare of constituents and contribute to the overall development of the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency.
Traditional authorities in Abekakrom welcomed the initiative and praised the MP for prioritizing the needs of the people over personal celebrations.
The chief of the community commended Hon. Cudjoe for what he described as a selfless and people-centered gesture. He noted that development projects such as schools, health facilities and roads leave lasting legacies that future generations will remember.
The chief further appealed to political office holders and public officials to ensure that resources allocated for community development are utilized for their intended purposes.
According to him, leaders who use public resources responsibly and deliver visible projects for the people ultimately earn a respected place in history. “Resources meant for the people should be returned to them through development projects. When leaders do that, they leave behind a legacy and engrave their names in history,” he remarked.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Prestea Huni-Valley, Mr. Matthew Ayeh, also lauded the Member of Parliament for his commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the constituency. Speaking at the event, Mr. Ayeh disclosed that he joined Robert Wisdom Cudjoe to cut the sod for two separate school projects within the constituency.
For the ceremonies held at Abekakrom and Prestea Gambia, he said construction is set to commence on three-unit classroom blocks with auxiliary facilities for the two beneficiary communities.
According to the MCE, the projects form part of efforts to improve the quality of educational infrastructure and provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning. He expressed optimism that the new facilities would help address classroom challenges in the affected communities and enhance educational outcomes for pupils.
Mr. Ayeh also noted that the sod-cutting ceremonies formed part of activities marking the birthday of the Member of Parliament, describing the gesture as a demonstration of leadership and commitment to community development.
Residents who attended the event expressed appreciation for the initiative and appealed for the timely completion of the project to enable schoolchildren to study in a more comfortable and conducive environment.
The construction of the classroom blocks at Abekakrom and Prestea Gambia is expected to complement government efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the municipality while advancing the constituency’s development agenda.
