US is negotiating a ‘great’ trade deal for Britain, JD Vance says

0
Keir Starmer and Donald Trump

The US is ‘working very hard’ to negotiate a ‘great’ trade deal with KeirStarmer’s government because Donald Trump ‘really loves the UK’, vice president JD Vance has said.

Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on imports to the US earlier this month, rocking the world economy and sending stock prices tumbling, sparking fears of a global recession.

The UK government has been hopeful of a deal to exempt the UK from Trump’s tariffs, and in an interview on Tuesday, Vance said he was optimistic that both sides could come to a mutually beneficial agreement.

‘We’re certainly working very hard with KeirStarmer’s government’ on a trade deal, Vance told the website UnHerd.

‘The President really loves the United Kingdom. He loved the Queen. He admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship. And he’s a businessman and has a number of important business relationships in [Britain]. But I think it’s much deeper than that.

‘There’s a real cultural affinity. And, of course, fundamentally, America is an Anglo country.

‘I think there’s a good chance that, yes, we’ll come to a great agreement that’s in the best interest of both countries.’

Vance said the ‘reciprocal relationship’ between the US and UK gave Britain a more advantageous position than other European countries when it comes to negotiating new trade arrangements.

‘While we love the Germans, they are heavily dependent on exporting to the United States but are pretty tough on a lot of American businesses that would like to export into Germany.’

Chancellor Rachel Reeves will aim to continue negotiations for an economic deal with the US later this month when she travels to Washington to attend the International Monetary Fund’s spring meetings with other finance ministers.

Top Benefits of Cashew Nuts

0
Cashew Nuts

Even though there are several cashew benefits, we’ll only look at the top benefits that have been scientifically proven. Here, we’ll take a look at the benefits of cashew nuts for brain, cashew benefits for skin, cashew nuts benefits for male and the overall health benefits of kaju or cashew.

  1. They are Heart-Healthy

The presence of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids in cashews make them very beneficial for the heart. In simple terms, these fatty acids are nothing but the ‘healthy’ fats that are extremely essential for your body.

The monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids are known to reduce the LDL (bad cholesterol) as well as the triglyceride levels in your body thus reducing the chances of strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular diseases. They are also known to maintain the levels of HDL or the ‘good cholesterol’ in the body. Maintaining the levels of cholesterol is extremely important in keeping several heart diseases at bay.

There have been several studies, including one published in the British Journal of Nutrition to support this claim.

  1. Help in Lowering Blood Pressure

Increased blood pressure or hypertension is a condition that affects many. It is important to have this condition under control in order to stay away from a number of health threats. Being a very good source of magnesium, one of the benefits of cashew nuts is that it lowers blood pressure.

Researchers have found out that just 300 mg of magnesium a day for a month is enough to lower blood pressure and so, a handful of cashews every day can prove very beneficial.

To relax your blood vessels and improve blood flow, magnesium plays an important role. The presence of potassium in cashews is also responsible for lowering blood pressure.

  1. Beneficial for Type 2 Diabetes

Another one of the incredible benefits of kaju is that they are very good for diabetic people as well. Cashews are a good source of fiber and this nutrient helps in preventing spikes in the blood sugar levels.

A study conducted found out that people with type 2 diabetes who consumed cashews regularly had overall lower insulin levels as compared to diabetic people who didn’t consume cashews.

All in all, cashew nuts are quite diabetic friendly. So, if you suffer from type 2 diabetes, adding cashews to your regular diet can do wonders for you.

  1. Cashews Help in Weight Management

People who consume nuts regularly, including cashews, tend to lose and manage weight better. There is a common misconception that consuming nuts leads to weight gain. However, that isn’t really true as nuts contain properties that are helpful for weight loss. In fact, a study conducted by Journal of Nutrition indicates that people who consume nuts regularly have a lower BMI as compared to those who don’t.

This is because cashews are a good source of protein, fiber and healthy fats that contribute to weight loss and help maintain a healthy weight. As a result, cashews are excellent snacks for those looking to shed a few kilos. Isn’t this one of the best cashew benefits?

  1. Improve Bone Health

The benefits of cashew nuts also includes improved bone health. As cashews are one of the few food sources of copper, they are very good for the bones. A copper deficiency is often associated with a lower bone mineral density.

The presence of magnesium in cashews also makes it a bone-healthy food. Magnesium is very important for bone formation and it also helps with better assimilation of calcium into the bones.

Thus, for stronger bones and reduced chances of osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases, cashews are very beneficial.

So, if you haven’t already, make sure to add cashews to your diet.

  1. Prevents the Formation of Gallstones

Your gallbladder secretes bile and excessive levels of cholesterol in the bile leads to its crystallization, thus forming gallstones.

The formation of gallstones has become a very common issue these days, with a significant percentage of the population getting affected by it. It is more common in women than in men and its risk increases with age.

However, one of the best benefits of kaju is that it can help prevent gallstones. In a study that was conducted of over 80,000 women, showed that women who consumed cashews regularly had a significantly lower chance of developing gallstones as well as a reduced risk of needing surgery to remove gallbladder. Consuming cashews can also improve the overall health of the gallbladder.

  1. Good for the Blood

Again owing to its amazing copper content, eating cashews is good for keeping blood-related diseases at bay. As copper helps in eliminating the free radicals from the body, it is good for your blood health.

Moreover, eating cashews also assists in the formation of the red blood cells. A deficiency of copper can also lead to anemia. The copper in cashews also increases the oxygen carrying capacity of the red blood cells, thus preventing anemia. So, if you suffer from anemia, cashews can be very good for you.

If you want to reap the benefits of cashews for your blood, include them in your daily diet.

  1. Good for The Eyes

Another one of the top benefits of cashew nuts is that it is good for the eyes. Cashews are a very good source of a potent antioxidant called ZeaXanthin. This antioxidant is readily absorbed by the retina and forms a protective layer around the eyes, thus preventing it from the harmful UV rays.

Since cashews are also rich in healthy fats, they boost eye health and protect its cells from the free radicals. Another one of the cashew benefits for eyes is that eating them helps prevent age related macular degeneration in the elderly people.

To keep your eyes in the best health, add cashews to your diet.

  1. Amazing for skin

Now, we’ll talk about the cashew benefits for skin. Did you know that these nuts are simply amazing for your overall skin health?

Since cashews are a powerhouse of zinc, selenium, magnesium, phosphorus and other nutrients, they are very beneficial for healthy and glowing skin.

The benefits of cashew nuts for skin aren’t just limited to a glowing skin but eating them can also help keep your skin free of wrinkles. Also if you want to keep your skin free of blemishes or marks, eating cashews can be helpful in doing so.

  1. Amazing Hair

Just like your skin, eating cashews can also transform your hair health. This is yet another of the incredible benefits of kaju.

If you dream of having shiny and lustrous hair, cashews could be your answer. Being a good source of copper along with the other nutrients, cashews are known to boost hair health.

Moreover, being packed with potassium, eating cashews could also prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.

Inter Milan take a 2-1 lead into second leg at home to Bayern

Inter Milan will take a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final at home to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Davide Frattesi netted a late winner in a dramatic first leg at the Allianz Arena last Tuesday, giving the Nerazzurri a slender advantage on their return to San Siro.

After taking the lead with one of the finest counter-attacking moves of the season in Bavaria, Inter were pegged back late on by the evergreen Thomas Muller, but Simone Inzaghi’s men still had more to offer.

Bayern Munich players

Just as it seemed Bayern would push on for an unlikely winner, Inter hit them with a counterpunch, breaking away themselves to retake the lead on 88 minutes, and after briefly switching off for the Muller goal, they kept their focus to hold on for the 2-1 win.

That puts Inter in a fantastic position to reach a second semi-final in three years, where Barcelona are likely to be waiting – the same club they beat in the 2010 semis when they completed the ‘tripletta’.

Last week’s win was their fifth in succession in the Champions League, the first time Inter have managed that feat since they won it with Jose Mourinho in that special 2009-10 season.

The hosts also enter the second leg unbeaten in 14 at San Siro in the competition, which after beating Bayern last week and ending their 22-game run on their own patch, is now the longest ongoing run in the Champions League.

Another treble is in sight for Inter, and going 12 unbeaten across all competitions suggests it will take quite something to stop them at present, as Cagliari were no match for Inzaghi’s side at the weekend, in a 3-1 win for the Serie A leaders.

All Inter have to do is maintain that unbeaten run this midweek and they will be into the semi-finals, ahead of their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against AC Milan next Wednesday.

Bayern have also remarkably won all four of their away matches against Inter, three of which have come in the Champions League, and all without conceding a goal.

That is Inter’s longest losing streak at home to a single opponent in Europe, but unless Vincent Kompany can mastermind another, he will be under huge pressure in the Bayern dugout. Inzaghi’s Inter have become the masters of defensive solidity in Europe, and another exemplary performance should be enough to see them into the final four.

Bayern will rue switching off late on last week after pulling level, and even though they have an excellent record at San Siro, this task looks like a big one.

It is make or break for Real Madrid as they host Arsenal

It is remontada or bust for reigning Champions League champions Real Madrid on Wednesday night, where Carlo Ancelotti’s men must pull off the most sensational comeback against Arsenal in the second leg of their quarter-final to keep their dream of a sweet 16 alive.

Declan Rice, Arsenal

The 15-time European Cup holders were slaughtered 3-0 at the Emirates in last week’s first leg, but Los Blancos now have the famed Bernabeu factor on their side.As Real’s shiny new toy Kylian Mbappe waits patiently for his first-ever goal from a direct free kick, Arsenal’s £105m man Declan Rice offered the World Cup winner some set-piece pointers in North London, firing in two unbelievable dead-ball strikes in the space of 12 minutes.

Even ex-Madrid left-back and free-kick icon Roberto Carlos – in attendance at the Emirates – should have been able to force a smile when Rice firstly bent an incredible effort around the wall before a postage-stamp second, which preceded emergency number nine Mikel Merino also having his say with a brilliant first-time finish.

As a euphoric Emirates crowd celebrated the most famous night in the stadium’s memory, Real Madrid – who deserved nothing and got nothing in North London – lost a first leg of a Champions League/European Cup knockout tie by three or more goals for just the fifth time in their history.

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid

Los Blancos ended up being eliminated on four of those previous five occasions, but the one outlier did come against an English side in the shape of Derby County, whom they lost 4-1 against in the first leg of the 1975-76 last 16 before a 5-1 turnaround in the second.

As Manchester City and Chelsea can attest to, Champions League nights at the Bernabeu are anything but a foregone conclusion, although that 5-1 vs. Derby marks just one of two occasions where Real have beaten an English side by at least four goals in the competition – the other was a 4-0 quarter-final battering of Tottenham Hotspur in 2011.

However, the holders could only manage the one goal in the weekend’s La Liga battle with Alaves, where Eduardo Camavinga struck the winner before Mbappe’s sending-off, but not since December 2018 – against CSKA Moscow – have they failed to score at home in the Champions League. On the flip side, Real Madrid have also conceded at least one goal in each of their last 10 European contests at the Bernabeu, music to the ears of an Arsenal side who may not be able to solely rely on their staunch defending to finish the quarter-final job.

Thomas Partey, Arsenal

Having defied the absences of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Magalhaes to rip Real Madrid to shreds in the English capital, Mikel Arteta’s men would be more than worthy semi-finalists, a stage they have only ever reached twice before and not since 2009.

If Arsenal can keep their clean sheet intact in the first 10 minutes – when the Bernabeu crowd is at its most boisterous – that should be a surefire recipe for success, although Real Madrid may have thought the same at the Emirates before the Gunners’ second-half show.

Arteta’s defence is stingy enough to avoid conceding the four goals that Real require to win in normal or extra time, though, and as Los Blancos are vulnerable at the back, one lucky Gunner can have their Henry moment to calm any nerves and send the holders packing, after which Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa will stand in their way of Munich.

ACP Ayaaba (middle) briefing the press

Four armed robbers have been gunned down in a joint operation by the Bekwai/Fomena Police.

Two of the deceased robbers

The security agency has named the deceased armed robbers as Samson, aka Sammy Tugah, W.K, Daniel and Efo, while the fifth person who received injuries is on admission at the Bekwai Government Hospital.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Nyaaba, while briefing the media said robbers have been terrorising residents of Adansi and Amansie for some time now.

The Commander catalogued eight instances where these six persons teamed up to inflict pains on innocent persons through their robbery activities.

Items retrieved from the robbers

He mentioned that early this month the group went to the Adansi Rural Bank at Fomena and stole an unspecified amount of money.

They again mounted a roadblock on the Akrokerri-Anwiankwanta road and robbed passengers of their money.

ACP Ayaaba noted that last Saturday the police received intelligence that the gang was embarking on a robbery at a mining site near Sanfo Aduam, in the Bekwai Municipality, and the police rushed to the scene.

The Commander said on arriving at the site the suspects opened fire and the police also returned fire which hit five of them. He said four of them were pronounced dead at the Bekwai hospital while the fifth person is receiving treatment.

The police retrieved one AK 47 rifle that was taken by the robbers in February, this year, two pump action guns, seven live ammunition and 17 live AA cartridges.

Traditional Coup In Kwahu Must Be Quelled –Forum

0
Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong ll

Convener of the ‘Kwahu Forum for Truth’, Mr. Kofi Boahen Dankwa, says Ghana’s chieftaincy institution is at a risk and may be chaotic if the traditional coup d’état being staged in Kwahu is not quelled immediately.

According to the Kwahu Forum for Truth, the purported destoolment of the Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong ll and the subsequent installation of a rival Kwahu chief without customary and lawful procedure is an upfront to the chieftaincy institution and could spark mayhem if care is not taken.

‘This customary coup d’état must not stand. It threatens to erode the sanctity of chieftaincy across Ghana. If such unlawful actions are tolerated, no traditional area will be safe from similar desecration. We must all rise in dignity and in unity, to reject this daylight robbery of our heritage’”, the Convener said.

In a press statement signed by Kofi Boahen Dankwa, he called on the state and the people of Kwahu to uphold the dignity of their ancestors by defending the truth and shielding the sacred stool from the stains of corruption.

“This illegal occupation is not merely an affront to Daasebre, it is a sacrilegious assault on Kwahu tradition itself.

“No charges have been filed against the Omanhene before the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, which is the only legally sanctioned body that can rule on chieftaincy matters.

“There has been no customary destoolment. No hearings. No summons. Nothing, And yet, through misinformation campaigns on social media and calculated public deception, this imposter seeks to convince the world that Daasebre has been deposed.

“The truth, however, is unshakable: Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II remains the only legally and customarily recognized Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area”, Kofi Boahen said.

According to him, the new Omanhene, without legitimate claim, no ancestry entitlement and no customary endorsement has unlawfully taken over the Esono Gyimah Mampong Agyei Palace at Abene and has surrounded himself by armed guards causing fear, confusion and division to a land that has always stood united.

He commended Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong ll for showing leadership, maturity and choosing the path of peace instead of violence amidst the extreme provocation, betrayal and a brazen act of lawlessness at Kwahu.

“He has refused to engage in violence or retaliation. He has placed his trust in the rule of law, opting to let the judiciary address the illegality. This decision has not been easy and the occupation of his palace; the sacred seat of Kwahu, cuts really deep.

“The people of Abene are anxious, dejected, and unsettled. But Daasebre has remained calm, patient, and resolute. He has heard the cries of his people, and he has initiated the necessary legal proceedings to challenge the imposter’s actions”, Kofi Boahen Dankwa said.

The convener of Kwahu forum for Truth indicates that the patience of Kwahuman is not weakness; it is rather strength and commitment to justice, not vengeance, a commitment to tradition, not thuggery.

Suale’s Murder Suspect Refused Bail Again

0
The late Ahmed Suale

The Criminal Division ‘5’ of the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, has refused a bail application filed on behalf of Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the man accused of playing a role in the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale.

Despite a spirited application by defense counsel, Nathaniel Egbor, who appeared with Esi Ama Jane and held brief for Kofi Essel, the court declined to grant bail, ordering that the accused be remanded in prison custody until further notice.

Lawyer Egbor, moving the application filed on March 26, 2025 and supported by a supplementary affidavit on April 4, 2025 anchored his argument on four main grounds: that the facts do not support the charge of murder; the accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence; continued detention violates his constitutional right to liberty and that he meets the statutory requirements for bail.

Lawyer Egbor challenged the strength of the prosecution’s case, stating that there was no direct evidence linking Koranteng to the killing, nor any demonstration of intent to cause harm, a key element in a murder charge.

He also disputed claims that Koranteng fled justice, citing travel records and official correspondence with law enforcement between 2019 and 2025.

Prosecutors, led by Maame Afua Osei Gyamerah, opposed the application, relying on Article 14(1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution, which allows for lawful detention based on reasonable suspicion of criminal involvement.

She argued that police investigations are still ongoing, with new evidence emerging, including call records placing the accused in the vicinity of the deceased’s residence on multiple occasions prior to his murder.

“The charge sheet shows a reasonable suspicion, and the application is premature,” Gyamerah told the court. “This is a case of national interest and investigations are progressing. The accused was only arrested a month ago and seeking concrete evidence at this stage is jumping the gun.”

Justice Quarshie agreed with the prosecution’s position, noting that the supplementary affidavit had been duly served and the prosecution had sufficient time to respond.

In delivering her ruling, she held that it was not appropriate to grant bail at this stage of proceedings and ordered that the accused remain in custody until further direction from the court.

Ahmed Suale, an undercover journalist with Tiger Eye PI, was shot and killed in January 2019. His murder sparked national and international outrage, particularly after it emerged that his image had been circulated online prior to his death.

The case has since remained a subject of high public interest, and the court’s decision to remand Koranteng underscores the seriousness with which it is being handled.

The matter is expected to return to court in the coming weeks as police continue their investigations.

Stop The Excuses & Increase Producer Price Of Cocoa Now -Minority Caucus

0
Dr. Isaac Opoku addressing the media

The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Dr. Isaac Opoku, the Member of Parliament for Offinso-South, has expressed their concern over the government’s failure to adjust the producer price of cocoa.

The group, at a news conference held in Kumasi yesterday, wondered why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not increase the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season.

Two letters issued by Ghana COCOBOD on April 8 and 9, 2025 signed by Dr. James Kofi Kutsoati, Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Operations and Public Affairs Department, have discrepancies with the reasons for not increasing the producer price of cocoa.

The Offinso-South legislator, on behalf of the minority caucus, said the posture of the government raises a number of questions.

The legislator queried the government why there could not be any price adjustment irrespective of what happens on the international and local markets.

According to him, it is clear the government is reneging on its campaign promise to pay the cocoa farmer 70% of the Free On Board (FOB) price, and in sharp contrast to the NDC’s manifesto promise (page 43), as well as promises to pay cocoa farmers GHC6,000 per bag.

According to Dr. Isaac Opoku, cocoa farmers believed in these promises and voted overwhelmingly to bring NDC into power, hence the government must stop the numerous excuses and honour its promise and increase the producer price now.

Disputing all the reasons cited by COCOBOD in their two releases, Dr. Opoku indicated that the producer price review committee is a standing committee, which is already in place, adding that Board of Directors of COCOBOD has no role in the formation of the committee, hence cannot be used as an excuse not to increase the producer price.

It was further disclosed that as at February, 2025, cocoa purchased and taken over by COCOBOD was more than 560,000 tonnes, which is close to US$3 billion  (GHC45 billion) based on the achieved average FOB price.

He argued that the government must not hide behind COCOBOD’s debt to deny farmers their legitimate share of the FOB for their toil.

Dr. Opoku queried, “What operational challenges are so compelling that COCOBOD cannot increase the producer price of cocoa?”

Dr. Opoku disclosed that the recent price hike in La Cote d’Ivoire has created a significant disparity that threatens to exacerbate cocoa smuggling across the border, stressing that the Ivorian government’s decision to increase cocoa prices from CFA 1,800 to CFA 2,200 per kilo, representing a substantial 22.24% rise, has widened the price gap between the two West African cocoa giants.

The Legislator further said at the current rate, Ivorian farmers are now receiving the equivalent of GHC3,635 per 64kg bag of cocoa, a staggering GHC535 more than Ghana, noting that this “stark difference presents an irresistible incentive” for smugglers to divert Ghanaian cocoa across the border, potentially leading to mass exodus of our prized light crop beans from the border regions, particularly Western South, Western North, and Brong Ahafo.

Dr. Opoku further warned that cocoa farmers might tend to sell their cocoa farms for illegal mining activities, especially in the face of surging gold prices.

He called on the government to take “immediate and decisive” action to address the pressing issue, noting that the time for lamentations and blame game has passed.

“This is not merely an economic decision, but a matter of national security and preservation of our agricultural heritage,” Dr. Isaac Opoku noted.

IGP Welcomes CDS with Guard of Honour at Police Headquarters

0
Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno (R) and Major General William Agyapong

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, hosted the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, with a Guard of Honour at the National Police Headquarters in Accra.

The ceremony marked Major General Agyapong’s first official visit to the Police Headquarters, since assuming the role of CDS.

He was received by the IGP and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), who together observed the ceremonial display in his honour.

Following the parade, the IGP and CDS held a meeting, during which they reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

The two leaders discussed key national security concerns, including ongoing efforts to address tensions in Bawku and emphasised the importance of continued inter-agency coordination in maintaining peace and stability across the country.

The visit signals a renewed dedication by the country’s top security agencies to work in closer synergy in response to Ghana’s evolving security landscape.

‘24-Hour economy is a national vision, not a political parlance’

0
24-Hour economy

The Government on Monday said the 24-hour economy initiative is not a mere political rhetoric, but a transformative national vision aimed at structurally reshaping Ghana’s economic landscape.

Dr Ishmael Nii Amanor Dodoo, the Head of the Innovative Finance at the 24-hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat, outlined the strategic blueprint of the policy, stressing its potential to transitioning Ghana from an import-dependent economy to a self-sufficient, production-driven one.

Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) 24-Hour Premium Service in Accra, Dr Dodoo described the 24-hour economy as a ‘‘citizen’s vision” designed to reverse Ghana’s reliance on imports, which currently account for 80 per cent of goods and services.

The policy aims for a future where Ghanaian markets are dominated by locally produced items, from food to textiles, enhancing food security, creating jobs, and boosting exports.

Dr Dodoo noted that just three non-Ghanaian entities dominated 80 per cent of the economy, leading to job shortages, forex instability and food inflation.

He pointed to the one-billion-dollar annual import bill for poultry and rice alone as a drain on national resources.

“When your plate of food enriches foreign producers more than local farmers, you lose not just money but also food sovereignty,” he said.

The 24-hour economy framework prioritises strategic agricultural value chains such as cassava, rice, and soya beans, to spur industrial growth.

Dr Dodoo cited cassava’s potential for ethanol and starch production as an example of how local raw materials could drive manufacturing and job creation.

He bemoaned the low level of fabrics produced in Ghana, saying the country produced only 20 million yards of fabric annually despite a 100-million-yard demand, with the rest imported from China.

Ghana’s pharmaceutical sector could produce vaccines and antiretroviral drugs, however unfavourable local conditions prevented the manufacturers from doing so, he noted.

Leadership and youth of Zongo communities have been advised to prioritize education as a way to sustain development.

Otumfuo Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene, Sarki Alhaji Abdulai Ali Barry, while addressing a durbar of Muslim communities over the weekend to mark the 16th annual Gargajiya Festival at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, stressed the need to prioritise education to improve their livelihood.

The celebration of the 16th Anniversary of the Annual Gargajiya Festival was organized by the Zongo Youth Association under the auspices of Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene.

The occasion witnessed the performance of various traditional dances by the Muslim communities including, Chocosi, Grunshie, Sisala, Mamprusi, Frafra and the Yorubas, among others.

Sarki Ali Barry pointed out that unlike former times when education received less attention in Zongo communities, the enclave can now boast of professionals like Doctors, Engineers and Lecturers, among others.

He, therefore, charged parents to make education a major focal point in the upbringing of their children.

OtumfuoNsumankwahene, Baffour Asabere Kogyawuasu III who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, reiterated the educational transformation in the Zongo communities.

He, however, deplored the reckless operation of rickshaws (Pragia) within the Kumasi Metropolis and called for compliance of road and traffic regulations to forestall sanity on our streets.
