Love For Nkrumah by The Great Hypocrites (1)

Kwabena Amikaketo sat in his favourite chair on his balcony viewing the setting sun which was making way for the shadows to grow longer, and soon cover his part of the world like a dark blanket.

The chilly weather is now gradually abating, making way for the warm spells before the heat finally arrived.

Today, Kwabena was very angry about what he believed were determined plots by socialists in Ghana to make the lie look like the truth and the truth considered the lie.

There has been so much love for Nkrumah being portrayed by these reckless nation wreckers who want to twist and turn history just to suit their wicked and selfish desires.

Kwabena knew he was getting angry and this always got him when politicians seek to deceive the people just for their sole benefit. That is why he decided not to be a politician to even become partisan. He loved and cherished saying things as they are.

The facts to Kwabena are that there is a section of Ghanaians who claim to be Nkrumaist and call themselves socialists and revolutionary.

Even though they hold themselves as disciples of Nkrumah, they are never under one umbrella. You may find a socialist preaching socialism and Nkrumah, but when you refer to the Limann administration, he would tell you in the face that the People’s National Party was not a socialist party. And so, what was it?

As for Rawlings and his regimes, just do not go there. The only one they may all support is the AFRC, where they chanted “Let the Blood Flow,” and encouraged Rawlings to insensitively murder, innocent Ghanaians to save the lives of about ninety crooks and economic saboteurs.

Kwabena, posed a question, in fact he rather identified a problem. And it is that there is every indication that Nkrumah was not loved by his own.

Firstly, the outcome of the Kulungugu assassination attempt on Nkrumah revealed that from within, Nkrumah had carnivorous enemies.

Among the five people hurled before the courts, three were top ranking CPP members made up of two cabinet ministers and a national executive officer. The court found the three not guilty.

Then in a rage, Nkrumah coursed a law to be passed which enabled him to set aside court rulings and even dismiss all the judges from the bench and this happened on December 23, 1963 when Parliament passed that bill and Nkrumah assented to it on December 24, 1963.

He appointed a new chief justice and ordered a re-trial, which in conclusion found all three CPP men guilty as charged. That was the fate of Ako-Adjei, Tawiah Adamafio and C. Crabbe.

Kwabena contemplated that if indeed those three were guilty of the crime, why would they, as true Nkrumaists plan to kill Nkrumah?

If indeed they were innocent as the first court determined, then who informed the mind of Nkrumah to make sure that they were guilty at all cost? What was that person covering up?

Was there a group of CPP activists who wanted Nkrumah dead? It certainly looked like that in this case scenario of the Kulungugu bombing affairs. No amount mudslinging on the United Party as the guilty one will ever wash.

The fact is in the end three of top CPP men were found guilty of attempting to kill Nkrumah, and why should it be so?

As at 1960, there was a split in the CPP. Nkrumah and his socialist colleagues formulated his new ideology which he first called African Socialism, then Nkrumahism and finally Consciencism.

The active practice of socialism proved Nkrumah’s first tactical mistake for the majority of his own cabinet members, most of the party officials, most members of parliament and most of the rank and file of the party. They were opposed to the socialist reconstruction of the society.

So, from 1960 onwards, the CPP was split into two: the anti-socialist group were led by Krobo Edusei, W.A. Wiafe, C.K.K. Baah and K.A. Gbedemah. The socialist group was led by Kofi Baako and Tawiah Adamafio.

Even within the socialist group, which was clearly in the minority, there was a division which on one side, people like, Kofi Batsa, S.G. Ikoku, Heyman, Tawiah Adamafio, K. Amoako-Atta, and T.D. Baffoe, going for scientific socialism and very much opposed to the adaptation of Marxism to African conditions.

On the other side those who supported the adaptation included Kofi Baako and Kwaku Boateng.

The second period of the CPP saw a spilt party with one side against the other and Nkrumah spent a great deal of time playing one group against the other, trying to maintain party unity.

(Ref: Chapter 21 of Ghana: Evolution and Change in the Nineteenth to Twentieth Centuries – Adu Boahen).

It is quite obvious from this account that there were CPP members who wanted Nkrumah dead, Kulungugu was one example and another was the Accra Bombings where most of those arrested were CPP elements.

The question of why Nkrumah could be an enemy to people within his own party where he was equated to a god, is answered in the above scenario.

That explained why to this day, socialists in Ghana have never been able to unanimously agree on what form of socialism is the best. They are still divided to this day, especially with some proclaiming that Limann’s PNP was not a socialist government. That is why today, the socialist parties are not united.

Just as a parent who plays by the divide and rule strategy, and creates division among his children, would be wished dead by some of them, so Nkrumah also had his real enemies within his party and government who wished him dead.

After he was overthrown in 1966, many of his own top government and party officials openly denied him. Kwabena attempted to recollect whether any Progress Party government or party official ever denied K.A. Busia, but nothing clicked in.

Some of the CPP gurus who definitely wanted to see Nkrumah finished, could go to him in Conakry Guinea and scammed him off hard currency with the assurance that they were going to stage a coup to restore him, but rather use the money to go to Europe and the US to start a new life all over again.

Kwabena sat calmly and pitied Nkrumah as it clearly demonstrated that some activities from 1981 to date clearly proved that most of the people, especially, the vociferous ones, who professed Nkrumah do not like him.

1). The December 31, 1981 coup that toppled the only united Nkrumaist party after CPP to have formed government was spearheaded by known Nkrumaists, like Kojo Tsikata, Ebo Tawiah, Ato Austin and P.V. Obeng to name a few.

Rawlings was a just an ideologically confused character who in seeking his own wealth and recognition led that coup, because in truth he was a radical capitalist reformist.

2). To find Nkrumaists rushing and falling over one another to join Rawlings to entrench his government of the PNDC and now the NDC is beyond comprehension, and maybe even beyond divine reasoning.

One socialist, Explo Nani-Kofi, caught Rawlings saying on June 5, 1981 that “when Nkrumah was destroying this country, the hero of all ages, Kotoka, my hero, overthrew Nkrumah to liberate the people of Ghana.” And yet this socialist willingly chose to work for and with the PNDC.

It was also stated somewhere that Rawlings proudly said he was the best head of state Ghana ever had, because all Kwame Nkrumah gave Ghana was a flag and a national anthem.

In all this the socialists gathered to join him to form and entrench his parties and policies on Ghana and Ghanaians but at the least opportunity would hail Nkrumah as their hero and their god, because Nkrumah never dies, or so they say.

3). In 1982, when opportunity came for invasion into the country by Ghanaian dissident soldiers, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, after getting wind of it from Kweku Baako Jnr and his colleagues, took a full packet of cigarette and a bottle of brandy and went to Gonda Barracks to tell on his bosom friend Kweku Baako, who gave him room and bed to perch in his house and also fed him.

Kweku and his colleagues were summarily arrested and jailed. Kwesi would later go on to defend himself that he was against foreign invasion to change government in this country.

He should be asked whether he was not aware of the invasion by the Libyans who helped toppled his own socialist government of the PNP and if he was, what did he do about it?

4). For the PNDC and NDC to have CPP elements making up the overwhelmingly majority, is quite legendary, in view of the fact these are the people who consider Nkrumah as their lord and their god.

Instead of preserving his legacy so that he could remain forever in the minds of all Ghanaians, they chose to first portray Rawlings as the next after Nkrumah and in fact Nkrumah reincarnated.

They picked up the PNDC and moulded it into a tradition which became greater and stronger than the CPP/Nkrumah’s tradition.

Just as this evening on the balcony was getting interesting, his beloved Echelle came calling that it was time for bed.

God willing tomorrow shall also come, he sighed himself to bed.

Southgate insists he is right man to lead England

England manager Gareth Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate says he is the right person to lead his country to the World Cup despite a five-game winless run that saw the team relegated from the top tier of the Nations League.

Southgate has credit in the bank having reached the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup and finished runners-up at last summer’s European Championship. But he was booed by the travelling support in Milan after a 1-0 defeat to Italy on Friday.

“I think I’m the right person to take the team into the tournament. I think it’s more stable that way, without a doubt,” said Southgate.

“I don’t think (the) performance (against Italy) was far off and I know that’s going to get derision just because we’re on the back of a run of defeats.”

England have failed to even score a single goal from open play in five Nations League games against Hungary, Italy and Germany.

But Southgate defended his side as they experience a World Cup preparation unlike any other.

Just eight days will separate the final round of Premier League fixtures from England’s opening game in Qatar, leaving no time for pre-tournament friendlies.

“We’re playing and have been playing some top level sides and we will be better for that,” he added.

“In the past we’ve had runs of friendlies or whatever the matches are and then we’ve gone into tournaments and that’s the first time we’ve hit high-level opposition and it’s hit us in the face quite often.

“Now we know the level, now we know what we’ve got to improve and we’ll be better placed for that by having had the quality of matches that we’ve had.”

Hearts coach concerned about team’s winless run

Hearts coach Samuel Boadu

Hearts of Oak head coach Samuel Boadu, says he is concerned with the team’s winless run in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians have accrued just two points out of nine after week three in the betPawa Ghana Premier League.

Hearts of Oak avoided a second defeat of the season against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Caleb Amankwah got the late equalizer for Hearts of Oak after Yusif Mubarak had put Asante Kotoko in the lead in the 57th minute of the second half.

Asante Kotoko were cruising to victory before the Phobians struck late to snatch a point.

Speaking to StarTimes after the game, Coach Samuel Boadu acknowledged the players for their performance, “I want to thank the players for their performance in today’s game.

“It wasn’t a bad game but we couldn’t meet our expectations. We wanted to outplay them but Gladson Awako sustained an injury which really affected us.

“We also missed our key players in this game such as Eric Ofori, Daniel Afriyie Barnie and Mohammed Alhassan.

“It is a concern we have only picked two points so far but let’s put this into consideration that the matches we have played so far is very difficult,” Samuel Boadu added.

Asante Kotoko coach SeydouZebou who made his debut in the Ghana Premier League said he was disappointed Hearts of Oak got the equalizer late in the game.

“Last week we all saw the performance of the players which was very disappointing but in today’s game there was more improvement just that our players did not take the numerous chances created.

We are very disappointed for Hearts of Oak to score in the last minute.”

Ghana face Nicaragua today; Are the Black Stars prepping for set pieces?

0
Black Stars training for today's game

Official photos of a training session from the Black Stars Camp strongly indicate the team is working to improve how it defends against set pieces.

The pictures could be a string hint to the fact that Otto Addo wants to get the players more prepared to defend set pieces after the team’s 0-3 loss to Brazil on Friday, September 23 at the Stade Oceane in Le Havre, France where the four time African champions conceded a Marquinhos goal from a corner kick and a free kick header from Richarlison.

All Brazil’s goals were scored in the first half in a showing that that underlined Brazil’s strengths on the day.

In the pictures, defenders Gideon Mensah, Daniel Amartey, Salisu Mohammed, Dennis Odoi and Joseph Aidoo and forwards, Inaki Williams and midfielder Elisha Owusu were spotted in what looked like a drill to get the team ready to defend set pieces.

The team took a lot of flak for defending poorly against set pieces in the Brazil game as Ghana continues preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Police eyes are red No Way For Land Guards! ; 34 yr-old Nathaniel Alabi arraigned for discharging fire arms

COP Daniel Kwame Afriyie, Tema Regional Police Commander

The Ashaiman District Court has remanded a 34-year-old businessman, Nathaniel Alabi, who allegedly engaged in land guard activities at Santoe, near Ashaiman, in the Greater Accra Region into police custody.

The accused, who will reappear in court on Friday, is facing two counts of discharging guns in town, contrary to Section 209(1)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960(Act 29), and engaging in land guard activities contrary to Act(7)7 of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act 2019(Act 999).

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ernest Dumfia, the Prosecutor, told the court last Friday that on September 22, this year, the Complainant, Stephen Derry, reported to the Ashaiman Divisional CID that on September 19, 2022, Nathaniel Alabi, the accused, wielding a pump action gun and pistol, led some young men to Santoe, near Adjei Kojo, in the West Tema Municipality, to terrorise the residents.

Firing gunshots, ASP Dumfia said Nathaniel told the residents that the land they had developed belonged to him and as a result gave them an option to renegotiate with him or vacate the land.

ASP Dumfia said Nathaniel, on that fateful September 22, 2022 was engaged in a similar gun shooting spree and threat at Katamanso in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, where the area’s police arrested him with the same two weapons he had used at Santoe on September 19, 2022.

Counsel for the accused, after listening to charges levelled against his client argued that the offence committed by the accused and others are all bailable and that, his client was not a person who would flee from the jurisdiction.

That, there were persons of substance ready to stand surety for the accused, but the court overruled his plea and remanded the accused into custody.

In another development, the Chief Executive Officer of F.A Global Group of Companies, Adu Francis King, is calling on the Ghana Police Service to take a personal interest in investigating a media-reported land guard attack, which the police are said to be aware of at Appolonia, Kubekrom.

The media report headlined: ‘Adu King’s Land Guards on Rampage’ further alleged that the land guards, who are on the payroll of F.A Global Group of Companies attacked the staff of Setho Classic Engineering, a private company, leaving one victim, Philemon Yawo, seriously injured.

“The media reports said the alleged land guards attacked the staff of Setho Classic Engineering on a committal land at Appolonia, Kubekrom at 2.30 pm on September 16, 2022.

“Two things in the media report seriously indict the Ashaiman Divisional Crime Officer and the Tema Regional Police Command, and for me, the police hierarchy needs to take a personal interest in this matter.

“First, a section of the media reported that the Ashaiman Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent Agbemabiase confirmed the land guards’ attack and said the police were investigating the issue and that the culprits would be prosecuted.

“Second was that the Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Daniel Kwame Afriyie, determined the ownership of the land and declared me as the owner,” Adu Francis King said.

After he had strongly requested the Tema Regional Police Command to investigate the media reports and the picture of the injured in the reports, Adu Francis King said that he had never patronised the services of land guards.

He explained that his company owns a stretch of land he acquired from the Odaitse-We Royal Mantse-Man Family of Kubekrom in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, but as the land in question always resulted in near clashes between the Odaitse-We Royal Mantse-Man family and the Kpone Traditional Council, Mr King told a cross-section of the media in Ashaiman that the Tema Regional Police Command invited the Lands Commission to pick the land and establish the boundary.

“The Command, then, invited me and one Seth Kwame Sallah, the owner of Setho Classic Engineering, who also owns land in the same area, to present our land acquisition documents, which we did.

“In fact, Setho Classic claimed that part of my land falls within his land which he said he acquired from the Kpone Traditional Council through the Appolonia stool.

“So, last month, the Lands Commission, together with the police and both of us—developers—carried out an exercise to determine the land boundary.

Later last month, the Lands Commission report on the boundary was read to me and Setho Classic in the Tema Regional Commander’s office, indicating that the disputed land doesn’t fall within the Kpone Traditional Council. And that ended it.

“I remember that the Tema Regional Commander had earlier moved in with his uniformed men and asked both factions to stay clear off the land so that his office would investigate and bring finality to the aged dispute. If the police personnel were land guards, I don’t know.

I have not organised land guards to attack the staff of Setho Classic Engineering Company or any developer at Kubekrom. Therefore, the media report that I hired some land guards to go on a rampage is not true,” he explained.

Giving his account, Adu Francis King said: “I need the Ghana Police Service to investigate this criminal matter because the media reported that the Ashaiman Divisional Command is aware of the said attacks by the said land guards on the staff of Setho Classic, the picture of the injured person as carried by the media and lastly, that the Regional Commander determined me as the owner of the land.”

Prez to US investors: don’t bypass Ghana and invest anywhere

Prez Akufo-Addo arriving at the confab venue

President Akufo-Addo says Ghana is one the fastest growing economies in Africa and has, therefore, called on the investors in United States of America to come and invest in the country where they will be assured lucrative returns on their investments.  He was speaking at an investor Roundtable held on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, currently underway in New York.

The Investor Roundtable was organised by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, in partnership with Anglogold Ashanti and JP Morgan Chase & Co., an American multinational investment bank and financial services.

The high level event, which was attended by global giants in the mining industry, as well as bond and equity investors, such as American International Group, PIMCO, Lord Abbett, HSBC Asset Investment and Schroder Investment, created a platform for Government to directly engage the investor community on investment potentials in the mining industry in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Anglogold Ashanti, Mr. Alberto Calderon, touted Ghana as one of the best places for mining investment.

He recounted the operations and experience of Anglogold Ashanti and indicated that their decision to partner the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources was because of their positive experience in the country.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP, on his part, said the siting of the headquarters of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Accra, makes Ghana the commercial capital of Africa, a testimony to Government’s commitment to create a resilient, self-sufficient and robust economy for Ghana.

In his keynote address, President Akufo-Addo said the private sector has a fundamental role to play Ghana’s economic recovery programme, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He said the country is blessed with a lot of minerals, including green minerals required for the green energy transition, such as lithium. He recounted the mining industry’s contribution to Ghana’s economy and said Government was looking forward to work with the private sector to further develop the industry, not just for mining, but through beneficiation, by building the full value chain of the mineral resources in the country.

NADMO Director declares support for Alan

Mr Alan-kyerematen

A powerful political face in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region has officially declared his support for Ghana’s Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, in the race for the party’s presidential candidacy.

Alhaji Hindu, a former Northern Regional Organiser of the NPP and the current National Disaster management Organisation (NADMO) Regional Director, has officially declared his support for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to lead the party in the 2024 election.

According to him, Alan Kyerematen is unifier who would do a better job for both party and country than the rest of the candidates.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Tamale recently, Alhaji Hindu said the ability of the Trade and Industry Minister   to bridge gaps within the party and the empowering the youth was worth commending.

The former Regional Organiser also stated the ability of the Trade and Minister to categorically empower party members as one of the reasons for rooting for him. He is the latest prominent politician from the Northern Region to declare support for Kyerematen.

Already the Northern Region youth group, ‘G6’, had openly declared its support for Trade and Industry Minister.

“We have taken this decision to join the Alan camp against the will of our chairman. We know he is not happy, but this is good for us. About 40 of our members are all polling station executives. And that makes us delegates,” one of the members of ‘G6’, Alhassan Bawa, said while declaring their support for Alan.

The Elephant Family is expected to soon go into a contest to elect their flag bearer for the 2024 general elections in a battle many expect to be a straight one between Kyerematen and Vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia

Ahiagba showcases Akufo-Addo’s gov’t achievements in rail and road sectors

0
The Tema-Mpakadan railway project

The Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagba, has dismissed opposition propaganda that the government had borrowed so much, but had nothing to show for it.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo government had rolled massive development programmes that touched on every sector of the national economy, and that communities where these developments were taking place could bear witness to it.

Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle, Mr. Ahiagba said to prove to the opponents that massive projects were going on throughout the country his outfit would soon be informing Ghanaians the locations of these projects and progress made so far.

Focusing his attention on the Eastern and Volta regions, Ahiagba said the Tema-Mpakadan railway project, which sought to transform the rail sector was 95% complete and on course to be fully completed by December, this year.

According to him, the completion of the project would reduce road traffic in the area, as well as increase economic activity along the route.

Touching on the Eastern Corridor road, which stretches from Tema to Bawku in the Upper East Region, he said Vice President Mahamudu Bawumiah had already commissioned 56.4km of the Hohoe-Jasikan-Dodo-Pepesu stretch, in addition to the 45km Asikuma-Have stretch.

He revealed that “this is just one of the 58 road projects currently under construction in the Volta Region, progressing steadily and expected to be completed as scheduled in 2023.”

Still on the road sector, he said construction of a 175-metre span bridge over a tributary of the Black Volta River from Agbenoxoe to Dafor has been completed and commissioned.

He also noted that 30 of the 50 Composite Modular Steel Bridges project, for which government signed a €50 million agreement with the government of Czech Republic in 2019, have been completed, and that out of the 30 completed, 8 of them are ready to be handed over, whiles 22 are currently undergoing testing.

He also referred Ghanaians to the multi-purpose Atlantic Terminal project at the Takoradi Port and said it is the single most significant investment in the history of the Takoradi Port since its establishment and that it is currently 98% complete.

The NPP Director of Communication also revealed that 2,000 new communities have been hooked to the national grid by the Akufo-Addo government. This, he said, brings urban electrification to 95.2% with 72.6% of rural communities covered. On the health sector, Mr. Richard Ahiagba contended that the NHIS is on course to becoming fully digitalised by early 2023 to enable people conveniently and securely register for health insurance online to ease traffic at NHIS district offices and accelerate access to quality affordable healthcare.

He also told The Chronicle that Agenda 111’s District Hospitals in Akatsi North, South Dayi, Ho West, Afadzato South, Agotime Ziope, and Anloga in the Volta Region are being built with steady progression and expected to be completed in 2023.

He also hinted on the education sector that 900 and 200 Dual Desks for schools have been presented to the Accra Metropolitan and Juaben Municipal Education Services Directorate respectively, for onward distribution to various schools. The development will  end the  ill fitted schools unable to deliver quality education.

Peace restored to N/R, come & invest here -Regional Minister

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, Northern Regional Minister briefing the press

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, has called on investors to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in the region and channel their investment there.

According to him, due to the increasingly friendly business environment, following the absolute restoration of peace in the region, coupled with its numerous investment opportunities, the region was fast becoming the toast of investors who wish to massively invest there.

“There is much to be achieved for the Northern Region in view of the huge potentials at our disposal. In this regard, I wish to use this opportunity to call on investors to inject the necessary capital into the various sectors of our economy,” the Regional Minister said.

He said this at the State of the Region Report, a weekly press briefing platform put together by the Ministry of Information for Regional Ministers to provide updates on developments in their regions on Sunday, September 25, 2022, in Accra.

Mr. Saibu said the region was blessed with vast and fertile arable lands, which, when fully exploited, had the potential to change the face of the region’s economy, contribute to attaining food security, reduce poverty, unemployment, and rural urban migration.

Mr. Saibu acknowledged that there were challenges in the region, but the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) and other private individuals in the region were working together to ensure that the atmosphere was condusive for investment, hence, encouraged people to invest.

“In spite of the challenges in the region, the RCC and MDAs in the region, in collaboration with other key stakeholders, will continue to create the necessary conducive atmosphere for businesses to thrive, and for people to go about their socio-economic activities,” the Regional Minister said.

Aside calling for investment, the Regional Minister also used yesterday’s briefing to speak about other infrastructural projects, such as roads and health, that are contributing to the growth of the region.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS

ROADS

Providing updates on developmental projects in his region, the Regional Minister said rehabilitation, partial reconstruction, and other civil works of 245.58km of roads are currently being undertaken in Tamale and other capitals of the MMDAs in the region by the Department of Urban Roads.

These works, he said includes asphalt overlays, rehabilitation works, and storm drain construction. A total of 45km of roads have had asphalt overlay in Tamale, while 9km of Yendi town roads were done as part of these projects.

Some of the areas in Tamale include: Sakasaka, Nyohini, Tamasco, while that of Yendi include: the Palace, Fire Service and Residency areas.

HEALTH

In the area of health, he said a total of about 118 projects in the region have been undertaken so far with 82 of them completed and in use, representing 72% of completed projects.

These projects range from CHPS compounds, health centers and clinics, administration blocks for district health directorates and health institutions, maternity wards, accommodation for health workers as well as the supply of logistics to health facilities.

The Regional Minister also said work on all eight Agenda 111 project sites in the region are progressing steadily.
