Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne was one of the acts set to take the stage

The musical festival ‘When We Were Young’abruptly canceled its Saturday lineup on the same day some of its biggest artists were set to take the stage.

In an announcement on their social media page, organizers of the emo music festival, which has a lineup that includes Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Avril Lavigne and a bevy of other bands and performers, shared that the cancelation of the Saturday lineup was due to the dangerous winds at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds.

“When We Were Young Festival organizers have spent the last several days proactively preparing the festival grounds for a windy Saturday. The National Weather Service has now upgraded their Saturday forecast to a High Wind Warning, including dangerous 30-40 mph sustained winds with potential 60 mph gusts,” the statement from festival organizers reads.

The festival organizer add that the choice to cancel the festivities was made after careful advisement from both weather and safety experts.

“Under advisement of the National Weather Service and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, we have no other choice than to cancel today’s When We Were Young Festival,” it concludes. “The safety of our fans, artists and staff will always be our top priority.”

Trevor Noah shuts down speculations of ‘beef’ with Kanye West

West had originally attacked Noah after the latter asked him to stop harassing Kim Kardashian

Trevor Noah doesn’t have any “beef” with Kanye West.

Talking to an audience member who had asked him about the alleged feud between them, “The Daily Show” host asked, “Why am I beefing with Kanye? That’s an interesting way to phrase it because a beef has to go both ways.”

He continued in the video posted to the show’s official TikTok account, “Genuinely it does. In my limited understanding of the world, beef has always been something that generally will happen between two hip-hop artists. I’ve never beefed with Kanye West. I was concerned about Kanye West.”

Noah, 38, actually condemned those around the rapper-turned-designer, 45, for not recognizing that he could potentially be in the midst of a mental health episode.

“If somebody says to me that they have a mental health issue, and they say to everyone that when they don’t take their medication they’re unable to control themselves — and then everyone ignores when that person is having an episode and they haven’t taken the medication — and then they platform the person and put them up … I sometimes think it’s a little s–tty, to be honest with you,” he said.

He also went in on those giving him a platform to “go off saying anything,” noting, “What I have beef with is us as a society not coming together around the person and going like, ‘Hey, maybe this is not the moment to put a microphone in your face so that you just go off saying everything.’”

Noah told his audience that he actually “grew up loving this man.”

Hacker who stole Ed Sheeran’s unreleased music jailed

A hacker who stole two unreleased songs from Ed Sheeran and sold them on the dark web has been jailed for 18 months. Adrian Kwiatkowski traded the music by Sheeran and 12 songs by rapper Lil Uzi Vert in exchange for cryptocurrency.

The 23-year-old, from Ipswich, managed to get hold of them after hacking the performers’ digital accounts, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

Kwiatkowski admitted 19 charges, including copyright infringement and possessing criminal property. He had made £131,000 from the music, City of London Police said.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that when the defendant’s Apple Mac laptop was searched, 565 audio files, including the songs by Sheeran and Vert, were uncovered.

An investigation was initially launched by US authorities in 2019.

It came after the management of several musicians reported to the New York District Attorney that someone known online as Spirdark had hacked a number of accounts and was selling the content.

The investigation linked the email address used to set up Spirdark’s cryptocurrency account to Kwiatkowski. His home address in the UK was also linked to an IP address used to hack one of the devices.

The case was then referred to the City of London Police and Kwiatkowski was arrested in September 2019.

According to police, seven devices, including a hard drive that contained 1,263 unreleased songs by 89 artists, were seized.

A document saved on the hard drive summarised the method he had used to obtain them along with a stash of Bitcoin which was seized.

Chief crown prosecutor Joanne Jakymec said Kwiatkowski had “complete disregard” for the musicians’ creativity, hard work and lost earnings.

Janet Jackson (r) reacts to Taylor Swift

If Janet Jackson wasn’t already a Swiftie, it is a good bet she is one now.
The Grammy Award winner, 56, blissed-out to Taylor Swift’s “Snow on the Beach” from her 10th studio album Midnights — which dropped Friday — sharing a TikTok of herself bobbing her head to the track, which mentions her name.
Swift, 32, sings in the song, which also features Lana Del Rey and was written by Swift, Del Rey and Jack Antonoff: “But your eyes are flying saucers from another planet / Now I’m all for you like Janet / Can this be a real thing? Can it?”
“I LUV it,” Jackson captioned the video, in which she leans back in a chair and gets blissfully lost in the song, before commenting with a smile: “That’s nice.”
Swift previously celebrated Midnights becoming the most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify’s history, following the LP’s release on Friday, in addition to becoming Apple Music’s biggest pop album of all time.
“How did I get this lucky, having you guys out here doing something this mind-blowing?! Like what even just happened??!?!” she wrote on Twitter.

Russia fighter plane crashes

A Russian military plane has crashed into a residential area in southern Siberia, local authorities have said.

The Sukhoi Su-30 fighter aircraft landed on a two-storey house in the city of Irkutsk, regional governor Igor Kobzev posted on Telegram.

The governor said he was at the scene and both pilots had been killed, but no residents were hurt.

According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the jet was on a test flight when it came down.

Footage on social media showed what appeared to be several buildings on fire.

It was the second incident of its kind in six days.

Last Monday, a Sukhoi Su-34 military jet crashed into an apartment block in the southern city of Yeysk, near Ukraine, killing at least 15 people.

China’s leader Xi Jinping secures third term

Chinese President Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping has been confirmed as leader of China for a precedent-breaking third term, after a week-long political meeting eliminated key rivals and strengthened his political power.

The 20th Party Congress, the most important meeting of the ruling Chinese Communist party five-year political cycle, saw about 2,400 delegates gather in Beijing to rubber-stamp major reshuffles and constitutional changes before its official close on Saturday.

At a press event on Sunday, seven key Xi loyalists were revealed as members of China’s most powerful political body, the politburo standing committee (PSC), as they walked on stage in order of rank.

At the lead was Xi, confirming his reappointment as general secretary of the party for a third term. The long-speculated reappointment signalled Xi’s successful and overwhelming consolidation of power in Beijing, with retention of the role as chair of the military commission, controlling the People’s Liberation Army. It’s expected he will next year regain the less powerful title of president.

Among the first world leaders to congratulate Xi were North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, with whom Xi announced a limitless partnership earlier this year.

Saudi crown prince ‘not attending Arab summit on doctors’ advice’

Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will not attend an upcoming Arab summit in Algeria in compliance with doctors’ recommendations to avoid travel, the Algerian presidency has said. Saudi Arabia offered no immediate acknowledgement of the comments on Saturday by Algeria about the condition of Prince Mohammed, who has quickly risen to power under his 86-year-old father King Salman.

Statements carried in Arabic and French on the Algeria Press Service late on Saturday referred to a statement from the office of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune about a telephone call between him and Prince Mohammed.

In the call, Prince Mohammed “apologised for not being able to participate in the Arab Summit to be held on November 1 in Algiers, in accordance with the recommendations of doctors who advise him not to travel”, the statement read. The Arab League Summit in Algeria represents the first time the regional body has met since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold across the world.

The Arab League, founded in 1945, represents 22 nations across the Middle East and North Africa, though Syria has been suspended amid its long-running war.

UK’s economic outlook now ‘negative’, ratings agency says

0
UK's economic outlook negative

The UK’s economic outlook has been lowered to “negative” by ratings agency Moody’s due to political instability and high inflation. Moody’s changed the UK’s outlook – which is a marker of how likely it is to pay back debts – from “stable”.

Rating agencies, in essence, rate a country on the strength of its economy.

Moody’s along with another of the big credit rating agencies Standard & Poor’s (S&P) maintained their assessments of the UK’s credit rating.

Rating agencies give governments (or large companies) a score on how likely they are to pay back their debt.

The rating affects how much it costs governments to borrow money in the international financial markets. In theory, a high credit rating means a lower interest rate (and vice versa). These range from a top mark of “AAA”, which stands for “prime”, down to the lowest reading of “D”, which stands for “in default”.

Moody’s said there were “risks to the UK’s debt affordability”, but kept its rating of Aa3, the fourth-highest level on its scale.

Trump ordered to testify over last year’s Capitol riot

Donald Trump

The congressional panel investigating last year’s Capitol riot has issued a legal summons ordering former President Donald Trump to testify to lawmakers.

Addressing him, the document reads: “You were at the center of the first and only effort by any US President to overturn an election.”

It goes on: “You knew this activity was illegal and unconstitutional.”

A lawyer for Mr Trump accused the lawmakers on the committee of “flouting norms”.

The former president has lambasted the inquiry as a ruse designed to distract voters from the “disaster” of Democratic governance with US midterm elections looming next month.

Mr Trump could face criminal charges if he does not comply with the subpoena. He has until 4 November to provide documents to the 6 January committee, and must appear for deposition testimony on or about 14 November.

If Mr Trump refuses to testify to Congress or hand over the requested material, the committee could refer the matter to the Department of Justice – potentially triggering criminal proceedings.

The subpoena was issued just hours after former Trump strategist Steve Bannon was fined $6,500 (£5,800) and sentenced to four months in jail for contempt of Congress.

Giorgia Meloni sworn in as Italy’s first female prime minister

Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s first female prime minister

Hard-right leader Giorgia Meloni was sworn in as Italy’s first female prime minister amid looming questions over her coalition partners’ stance towards Russia.

The 45-year-old leader recited the ritual oath of office before Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Saturday after her party Brothers of Italy won more than 25 percent of the vote in snap elections in late September.

She pledged to act “in the exclusive interests of the nation” – a promise then repeated by her 24 ministers, six of them women.

The ceremony took place a day after Meloni along with her coalition partners – hardliner Matteo Salvini of the League party and Forza Italia’s TV tycoon Silvio Berlusconi – unveiled their cabinet. The government is expected to face confidence votes in parliament next week.

Forza Italia’s Antonio Tajani is now the country’s foreign minister. He has a long history with European institutions and was president of the European Parliament in 2017.

The economy ministry will be in the hands of League’s Giancarlo Giorgetti who is considered relatively pro-Europe, and one of the most moderate among party members.
