Days after his absence at the Hogbetsoso Rave in Volta Region, Dancehall Artiste, Shatta Wale has explained his side of the story on Facebook.

After days of silence, Shatta has taken to social media to state reasons for his absence on stage.

Stating his side of the story, the Dancehall Artiste expressed that he was disrespected by the organizers.

Shatta Wale explained that, he was driven directly to a radio station to grant an interview when he already had an agreement with organizers that he would not participate in such an arrangement or even greet any chief.

He added that one of the organizers threatened to withhold his accommodation if he fails to grant the interview and that was when he took off.

“Ibe show wey them contract me for. We no dey go greet greet people. Ago taya before the show starts sef. I know how people dey love me and I know I’d have to get into the crowd. Everybody godey talk to you and your voice all go strain.

I wanted to keep the energy for my lovely people of Volta. As I ask them whether ino be this thing I tell them before coming, I hear sey one of the organizers say if I no go come the radio station, then them no go take me go my hotel room.

So you expect me to carry all the luggage I came with to the radio station?” he expressed in Pidgin English during an Instagram live.

A disappointed Shatta however asked if a foreign artiste could be treated in such an unfair manner.

“Massa, make I carry all my luggage come the radio station den come do radio interview? As yourself whether that’s how they treat foreign artistes. Do they take them to radio stations immediately they land at the airport? Even some international artistes come with their live bands, do they carry all that to the radio station? When Usher came to Ghana did he carry all his luggage and band to radio stations for interview?” he quizzed.

In a statement by the organizers, it was explained that he arrived in Volta Region but later left to Accra. “It is interesting to note that Shatta Wale had shown up at the venue of the concert in vehicles rented for him and his team by the organizers yet could not be found afterwards. All efforts by the two management teams to get him to come to the concert grounds to perform to the waiting crowd proved futile,” part of the statement from the organizers read.

You just have to put all your worries away for a second and enjoy ‘Labadi.”

Notable among the collaborations his fans are most excited about is a song with Black Sherif, titled ‘Country Side’

Biggest lottery jackpot in world history tops $2bn

After issues with processing sales caused an overnight delay, officials overseeing a record $2.04bn Powerball jackpot on Tuesday announced the would-be winning numbers for the largest-ever lottery prize in history: 10-33-41-47-56, and the Powerball was 10.

The announcement has now left much of the US waiting to learn whether anyone had bought a winning ticket or if the jackpot would swell to an even greater amount.

The prize is nearly $400m larger than the previous record jackpot. Only four previous Powerball jackpots have topped $1bn, but none of those are close to Tuesday’s potential prize, which started at $20m on 6 August.

Whoever ultimately wins the jackpot can choose to receive the full prize, paid through an annuity over 29 years, or a lump sum of cash paid immediately. Winners more often opt for the lump sum.

All winnings will be subject to federal taxes, reducing the payout by more than one-third. In addition, many states tax lottery winnings, which will eat into the prize as well.

Climate protesters block UK’s busiest motorway for second day

Climate protesters block motorway

Just Stop Oil protesters have blocked parts of the United Kingdom’s busiest motorway for a second successive day, bringing rush-hour traffic to a standstill as they call for more government action to tackle climate change.

The campaign group said on Tuesday morning that 15 activists had climbed onto overhead gantries along multiple parts of the M25, a main orbital road that encircles London.

The protests, which began at about 07:00 GMT, caused police to halt traffic in the various sections of the motorway that were affected.

Essex Police said officers were on the northbound carriageway of the M25 near the Dartford Crossing, where a Just Stop Oil demonstrator had climbed a gantry, forcing the closure of the Dartford Tunnel. Meanwhile, Hertfordshire Police said they were responding to a protest at junction 20 of the M25 near Kings Langley and urged motorists to seek alternative routes.

France opens inquiry into Cardinal’s confession of child abuse

French Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard

French prosecutors in Marseille said on Tuesday they had opened an inquiry into child abuse by a French cardinal after he confessed publicly to “reprehensible” acts against a 14-year-old girl in the 1980s.

Jean-Pierre Ricard, a retired bishop who was made a cardinal by Pope Francis in 2016, was named among 11 senior clergymen who face sexual abuse allegations in an announcement by the French Catholic church on Monday.

In a message read out at a conference of bishops, Ricard said: “35 years ago, when I was a priest, I behaved in a reprehensible way towards a girl of 14. There is no doubt that my behaviour caused serious and long-lasting consequences for that person.”

The most serious sexual offences in France such as rape usually have a statute of limitations of 30 years, but the period to bring charges can be extended if the victim was a minor at the time of the offence.

The maximum period for charges for sexual abuse of a minor is usually 20 years from the date at which the victim turns 18.

Court orders striking Kenya Airways pilots to resume work

Hundreds of striking pilots at Kenya Airways have been ordered by a court to resume work by Wednesday while the airline was barred from penalising the pilots.

Judge Anna Mwaure of the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi said in Tuesday’s order that pilots should resume their duties “unconditionally” by 6am.

Members of the Kenya Airline Pilots Association, a union that represents about 400 pilots at the carrier, went on strike on Saturday after failing to resolve a dispute over their pensions contributions and settlement of deferred pay.

The walkout led to the cancellation of dozens of flights by one of Africa’s largest carriers and stranded thousands of passengers.

Tuesday’s court ruling comes after a letter written by the Kenya Airways CEO outlined its plans to cancel its bargaining and recognition agreements with the pilots union. The letter called the strike unlawful and said it amounts to economic sabotage.

Kenya Airways, which has 36 aircraft in its fleet, serves just as many countries on its routes. The airline is privately owned, but the Kenyan government has a 48.9% stake in it.

Russia installs barriers to slow advance of Ukrainian forces

Concrete blocks installed by Russia

Russia is stepping up its efforts to build substantial obstacle barriers to slow the advance of Ukrainian forces in key locations it is defending, including around the devastated city of Mariupol, the UK Ministry of Defence has said.

Its intelligence assessment on Tuesday said the Russian military was using two plants in occupied Mariupol to produce large numbers of “dragon’s teeth” – pyramidal concrete blocks designed to slow advancing military vehicles.

The production and placement of the blocks in conjunction with razor wire and mines is the latest indication of how Russia’s struggling forces are increasingly attempting to transition to more defensive warfare, not least on the key southern Kherson front on the east bank of the Dneiper River.

“Dragon’s teeth have likely been installed between Mariupol and Nikolske village; and from northern Mariupol to Staryi Krym village. Dragon’s teeth have additionally been sent for the preparation of defensive fortifications in occupied Zaporizhzhia and Kherson,” the intelligence assessment said. “This activity suggests Russia is making a significant effort to prepare defences in depth behind their current frontline, likely to forestall any rapid Ukrainian advances in the event of breakthroughs.”

Renewed optimism for Franco-British ties after leaders hold first meeting

Britain's prime minister Rishi Sunak with French President Emmanuel Macron

Britain’s new prime minister Rishi Sunak held his first face-to-face meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday and vowed to address the issue of cross-Channel migrants quickly. He also hailed renewed optimism towards ties with European partners.

Sunak has taken a much more positive tone towards Macron than his short-lived predecessor Liz Truss, who infamously refused to say whether the president was a friend or foe.

The leaders met on the sidelines of the UN’s COP27 climate summit in Egypt, with Sunak under pressure from days of bad headlines on the fate of migrants holed up in one UK detention centre.

“It was great to meet President Macron to talk about not just tackling illegal migration but the range of other areas in which we want to cooperate closely with the French on,” he told UK media.

They also discussed climate commitments at COP and the war in Ukraine, agreeing to support the “vital needs” of the Ukrainian armed forces through the winter months, the Elysee said.
