Adjetey Anang confesses to cheating on his wife in his memoir

Adjetey Anang, wife and son

Renowned Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang, has bravely confessed to cheating on his wife severally in his memoir. In his newly released book, titled “Adjetey Anang: A Story of Faith, Imperfection, and Resilience,” the award-winning actor shares this delicate aspect of his relationship with his wife of almost a decade, Elorm Anang.

In chapter nine, titled “Marital Challenges and Imperfection,” Adjetey Anang candidly explores the trials and tribulations that his marriage has endured, including a prolonged wait of over seven years to conceive their first child and his infidelity.

The beloved actor, known for his role in “Things We Do For Love,” openly admits that what initially started as naive behavior with the opposite sex gradually escalated into intense flirtation, occasionally crossing boundaries.

“I must admit that I was somewhat naive at the beginning, oblivious to subtle amorous hints and perhaps too trusting of people’s intentions until it was too late. As time went on, I became more audacious, daring, and even adventurous, often initiating flirtatious conversations and leading many astray.

I have found myself in compromising situations with women. Some encounters began with innocent admiration and harmless fun, but after prolonged conversations, they evolved into flirting that, regrettably, sometimes went too far,” he writes in his book.

Adjetey Anang does not shy away from acknowledging his past transgressions, confessing, “Yes, I have cheated on my wife, both emotionally and physically.” He takes responsibility for his actions and offers a heartfelt apology to all the women with whom he engaged in inappropriate behavior.

“To each and every woman who has been part of this journey with me, I humbly apologize for my inappropriate behavior.

Forgiving myself has been a struggle, and these experiences have marked the lowest points in our marriage, nearly tearing us apart. I am immensely grateful for God’s grace, Elorm’s forgiveness, and the unwavering love that has kept us resilient during those dark times,” he adds.

Biden visits UK: President says US-UK relationship rock solid

0
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told President Joe Biden the UK and the US were two of the firmest allies in Nato

US President Joe Biden has described relations with the UK as “rock solid” during talks in London with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Mr Biden said he “couldn’t be meeting a closer friend and a greater ally”. Mr Sunak hailed the UK and the US as “two of the firmest allies” in Nato.

They also discussed a US move to give Ukraine controversial cluster bombs to defend itself from Russia’s invasion.

Ukraine’s membership bid will be high on agenda at Tuesday’s Nato summit.

All 31 Nato members attending the summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, agree that Ukraine cannot join the military alliance during the war – amid fears this would lead to a direct conflict with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has himself said he does not expect Kyiv to join the bloc until after the war – but he wants the summit to give a “clear signal” on Ukraine’s bid.

Several Nato members in Eastern Europe are pressing for a fast-track membership for their neighbour – but others, including the US, are seen as more hesitant, fearing this could lead to a direct conflict with nuclear-armed Russia.

Speaking to CNN, President Biden said Ukraine’s membership bid was “premature”.

Referring to the US pledge of cluster bombs for Ukraine – something which caused unease among Nato allies – Mr Sunak’s official spokesman said it “was a difficult choice for the US”.

But the spokesman added that the decision had been “forced on them by Russia’s war of aggression”.

The weapons have been banned by more than 100 countries, including the UK, because of the danger they pose to civilians.

The spokesman said Sunak was upholding the UK’s requirements under an international convention banning the weapons.

The US says it has received Ukraine’s reassurance that the munitions will not be used in Russia or in urban areas.

President Biden also held separate talks on Monday with King Charles at Windsor Castle – the pair’s first meeting since the King was formally crowned in May.

Mr Biden received a royal salute and listened to the US national anthem performed by the Welsh Guards before entering the castle for the talks.

UN warns of ‘full-scale civil war’ in Sudan after weekend airstrike kills dozens

Drone footage shows clouds of black smoke over Bahri, also known as Khartoum North, Sudan,on May 1, 2023.

The United Nations has warned that Sudan could be on the verge of all-out-war after a weekend airstrike killed dozens in a residential area in the Sudanese city of Omdurman.

At least 22 people were killed and many injured in a shelling attack early Saturday, the country’s health ministry said, as months of infighting between Sudan’s rival military forces continue to rage on across the country.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the weekend bombing was an indication that Sudan was now on “the brink of a full-scale civil war.”

“The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned that the ongoing war between the armed forces has pushed Sudan to the brink of a full-scale civil war, potentially destabilizing the entire region,” a statement from Guterres’ office said condemning the airstrike.

“He is appalled by reports of large-scale violence and casualties across Darfur,” the statement further said while expressing concerns about renewed clashes in some of Sudan’s worst hit states that have seen large displacement of civilians.

“There is an utter disregard for humanitarian and human rights law that is dangerous and disturbing,” the statement added.

Guterres urged the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — the two warring factions fighting for control in Sudan to end hostilities.

The RSF blamed the SAF for Saturday’s airstrike, describing it as “the most severe aircraft bombing … on innocent citizens.” It also placed the death toll at 31.

Fierce fighting erupted between the rival groups in April, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.

Data from the United Nations International Organization for Migration, (IOM) said nearly 2.8 million people have fled Sudan, many without passports, for neighboring countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia and Libya.

Erdogan links Sweden’s NATO bid to Turkey joining the EU

0
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the surprise announcement at a news conference in Istanbul on July 10, 2023.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that Brussels should clear the path for Ankara’s accession to the European Union, before his country approves Sweden’s bid for NATO membership.

Erdogan’s statement, which surprised diplomats, came on the eve of a NATO summit in Lithuania, where Sweden’s membership is on the agenda.

“First, let’s clear Turkey’s way in the European Union, then let’s clear the way for Sweden, just as we paved the way for Finland,” Erdogan said at a news conference.

Erdogan said it was time to act on Turkey’s long-stalled bid to join the EU. “Turkey has been waiting at the gate of the European Union for over 50 years now,” he said, and “almost all NATO member countries are European member countries.”

Turkey claims that Sweden allows members of recognized Kurdish terror groups to operate in Sweden, most notably the militant Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). It also alleges that the Swedish government has been complicit in far-right anti-Islam protests.

NATO had been aiming to admit Sweden to the alliance before this week’s summit in Vilnius, Lithuania – but Turkey blocked Sweden’s accession due to long-running disagreements between the two countries.

In June – just a couple of weeks before the scheduled NATO summit – Swedish authorities approved a small Quran-burning demonstration outside a mosque in Stockholm which coincided with the Muslim holiday of Eid-al-Adha, one of the most significant in the Islamic calendar.

The decision to permit the protest, made in accordance with the right of freedom of speech, angered Ankara further. Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan condemned the decision, saying “to turn a blind eye to such heinous acts is to be complicit in them.”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday that it is “still possible to have a positive decision on Swedish membership” at the Vilnius summit, despite Erdogan’s latest announcement.

“We don’t have any certainty, we don’t have any guarantees, but of course now we have the momentum of the summit with the leaders here and we will use that momentum to ensure as much progress as possible,” he said at a press conference in Lithuania.

While Turkey has obstructed Sweden’s membership bid for months, “this is the first time he has made a correlation between Turkey’s long-forgotten EU bid and Sweden’s NATO entry,” Asli Aydintasbas, a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution, told CNN.

“But the wording was vague,” she added. Erdogan said he wanted Brussels to “open the door to the EU” for Turkey, without specifying what that entails. “That could mean anything – from upgrading the free trade agreement to just political statements of support,” Aydintasbas said.

Critics of Erdogan said his new demands meant he had drastically shifted the goalposts so close to NATO’s stated deadline.

But, for Aydintasbas, “he is simply negotiating – and this is how Erdogan negotiates.”

“Erdogan knows that Vilnius is when he can extract maximum concessions from Western partners.”

Before Erdogan’s latest announcement, an Eastern European diplomat told CNN that he “will use the moment to squeeze every drop from this situation and will throw the ball to Sweden – making them hostage of their (own) anti-terrorist laws.”

Six killed in stabbing at kindergarten in China, suspect arrested

Police sealed off the area around the kindergarten after the stabbing attack

Six people, including three children, have been killed and one injured in a stabbing at a kindergarten in southern China, according to an official.

A spokeswoman for the city government said the attack took place in Lianjiang in Guangdong province on Monday.

“The victims include one teacher, two parents and three students… and one suspect has been arrested,” she told the AFP news agency.

The BBC also reported the incident, citing local police who said the attack took place at 7.40am (23:40 GMT on Sunday), and the suspect – a 25-year-old man with the family name Wu – was arrested 20 minutes later.

Police have classified the case as “intentional assault”, the report added.

The incident was the top-trending discussion on the social media platform Weibo, with 130 million views as of 12.20pm (04:20 GMT), but videos shot by passersby claiming to show the crime scene were removed from Weibo as well as video-sharing platform Douyin.

China has seen a number of stabbing attacks in schools in recent years, despite government efforts to improve security.

Last August, three people were killed after an attack in southern Jiangxi province that also targeted a nursery school.

In April 2021, two children were killed and 16 others wounded when a knife-wielding man entered a kindergarten in southern China.

In June of the previous year, 37 students and two adults were wounded by a knife-wielding attacker at a primary school in southern China.

And in November 2019, a man climbed a kindergarten wall in southwest Yunnan province and sprayed people with a corrosive liquid, injuring 51 of them, mostly students.

The same year, eight schoolchildren died and two others were wounded in a “school-related criminal case” in the central Hubei province, with a 40-year-old man arrested.

And in April 2018, a 28-year-old man killed nine college students and injured 12 others outside their school in the northern province of Shaanxi.

The attacker later said he acted out of revenge after being harassed by a student at the same school.

Spain coast guard spots boat during search for missing migrant vessel

0
Spanish maritime rescuers have spent days looking for the small Senegalese boat

The Spanish coast guard says one of its aircraft has found a boat during a search for a vessel carrying migrants that went missing more than a week ago.

The boat was 71 miles (114km) south of Gran Canaria and had around 200 people on board, the coast guard said.

It added that one of its vessels has been sent to assist the rescue.

The aid group Walking Borders earlier said the fishing boat sailed from a coastal town in southern Senegal that is roughly 1,700km from Tenerife.

It said the vessel had 200 people on board when it left Kafountine on 27 June, heading for the Canary Islands. Many children were said to be on board.

Two similar boats carrying dozens more people are also said to be missing.

There are few details about the other two boats – however, Walking Borders told the BBC that one had about 65 people on board, the other up to 60.

The two smaller boats are thought to have left Senegal on 23 June – four days before the larger vessel.

The news comes just weeks after Europe saw one of its worst Mediterranean migrant shipwrecks, when an overcrowded trawler sank off the Greek coast.

At least 78 people were confirmed drowned, but the United Nations (UN) reported that up to 500 were still missing.

The voyage from West Africa to the Canary Islands is among the most dangerous routes for migrants, not least because they usually sail in simple dugout fishing boats that are easily tossed by powerful Atlantic currents.

Last year at least 559 people died at sea attempting to reach the Spanish islands, the UN’s International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says. The death toll for 2021 was 1,126.

However, the IOM says information about the number of departures from West Africa is scarce and shipwrecks are often not reported.

It adds that the migrants are often from Morocco, Mali, Senegal, the Ivory Coast, or are of other sub-Saharan origins.

According to Spain’s Interior Ministry, 15,682 people arrived in the Canary Islands without permission in 2022, a decrease of more than 30% compared to 2021.

“Despite the year-to-year decrease, flows along this dangerous route since 2020 remain high compared to prior years,” the IOM says.

What are the Health Benefits of Juniper Tea?

0
Juniper berry

There are many health benefits of juniper as well as many associated with drinking juniper berry tea. It is very high in antioxidants and vitamins A and C. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in your body, which can cause cancer and heart disease. Vitamins A and C help strengthen your immune system to prevent colds and boost your body’s ability to fight off any infections you may have contracted.

1) Treating Common Cold & Cough:

The University of Connecticut recently did a study on natural remedies and herbs that fight off the flu. Guess what? By taking ginseng, juniper and ginger at least three times a week, you can cut your chances of getting the flu by 65%! That’s a huge number!

Juniper berries contain an antiviral compound (deoxypodophyllotoxin) that can be helpful for upper-respiratory-tract infections, colds, and flu. Try steeping a handful of juniper berries in hot water before bedtime.

2) Treating Stomach problems:

Another benefit of juniper berries is that they can be used to treat stomach problems by aiding digestion the same way many other herbs and spices do. They increase bile and digestive juices by increasing glandular function.

3) Diabetes prevention:

Some studies have found that juniper berries can decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes , by regulating blood sugar levels and making them more stable.

*The consumption juniper might lower blood sugar too much in a people taking medication for diabetes because it may cause a further decrease in blood sugar to very low levels.

4) Treatment for gout:

Gout is a form of arthritis that typically affects a joint. It’s more common in men than in women and usually afflicts people over 40 years of age.

It can begin as an isolated flare-up or become a chronic condition, resulting in periods of intense pain, stiffness, swelling, and redness around the joint.

For treating gout, juniper berry tea is used as a diuretic. Juniper berries increase urine output and thus help to flush uric acid from your body, relieving the symptoms of gout.

5) Treatment for Kidney Stones:

Drinking juniper berry tea can also be effective against kidney stone formation due to its ability to increase urine flow. Juniper berries are a diuretic and stimulate increased production of urine, thereby helping to flush out toxins and waste products from the body. In addition, they help prevent the formation of kidney stones by increasing the production of bile, which removes substances that could cause them.

6) As a Treatment for UTIs

If you’re suffering from urinary tract infections, juniper berries can help you get relief. The antibacterial property of juniper berries combined with its diuretic effect makes it ideal for combating UTIs.

How is Juniper Berry Tea made?

Ingredients

1 tsp of dried juniper berries (Juniperus communis)

1 cups of boiling water

1 tsp of honey or sweetener of choice

Directions

Using a mortar and pestle, light crush the dried berries to get out all the benefits of juniper berries and its flavors.

Add the dried juniper berries to a tea ball and place in a large mug (alternatively, put the berries directly in the mug).

Pour the boiling water into the mug. Let steep for 15 minutes. Strain the berries or remove the tea ball.

Enjoy as is or with a teaspoon of raw honey.

Side Effects and Precautions of Juniper Berry

Consuming juniper berry is generally considered safe, but there can be allergic reactions, as well as drug interactions and possible toxicity when consumed in large quantities.

Despite its many benefits, there are also precautions and downsides to consuming juniper berries. Pregnant and breastfeeding women with urinary tract or kidney problems should avoid drinking juniper berry tea as it might cause contractions.

Also, consuming large of amounts of juniper berries (uncommon) has been proven to be toxic.

As with any other unusual and unfamiliar health supplement, it is important to consult your doctor about its use and possible side effects before delving into it.

Feature: OccupyGhana writes to Lands Commission

0
Rt Hon Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, Ace Anan Ankomah, OccupyGhana and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff

Our Ref: OG/2023/017

10 July 2023

The Minister
Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources
Accra

Executive Secretary
Lands Commission
Accra

Dear Sirs:

DEMAND TO CEASE AND DESIST FROM ALL PLANNED RELEASE OF PUBLIC LANDS TO ALLEGED PRE-ACQUISITION OWNERS

We write to demand that the Government and Lands Commission (1) properly account to Ghanaians for all public lands that have been purportedly released to alleged, previous owners or any other persons, and (2) immediately cease and desist from implementing any plans to cede ownership of further public lands, until you comply with constitutional conditions-precedent to any such transactions.

PRESIDENT AS TRUSTEE, LANDS COMMISSION AS MANAGER
Under the Constitution, all compulsorily acquired lands are ‘public lands.’ According to the Supreme Court, this applies whether the land is vested in the State ‘or assigned to a particular public service institution.’

While public lands are vested in President in trust for the people, the power to manage such lands is vested exclusively in the Lands Commission. We contend that the Lands Commission’s power to manage does not include the unilateral power to cede ownership of public lands to any other person.

According to the Constitution, in the performance of its functions, the Lands Commission is independent of ‘any person or authority,’ subject only to limitations provided in either the Constitution itself or other constitutionally-compliant laws.

The Constitution then binds the Lands Commission to comply with only Presidentially-Approved Written General Directions (‘PAWGDs’) issued by the Lands and Natural Resources Minister.

Thus, the Minister may only make approved directions of a general nature, but cannot be involved in or instruct on any acts that amount to direct and specific management of public lands. Those would be unconstitutional and void.

LANDS COMMISSION’S FIDUCIARY OBLIGATIONS
The Constitution also imposes on the Lands Commission, as the ‘manager of public lands,’ the same fiduciary and accountability obligations of trustees. Therefore, neither  the Government nor the Lands Commission may dispose of any public lands, being trust property, without observing the constitutional architecture put in place to prevent a wanton dissipation of such lands.

If public lands must be sold, then first, the Government, acting in utmost good faith, observing its trust duties of honesty, integrity and loyalty, and considering what is in the best interest of the people, would have to issue a relevant PAWGD. It is only after that, that the Lands Commission, observing the same trust duties, would independently manage the process.

ABSENCE OF PAWGDs
However, and following the unfortunate, but thankfully, failed attempt to release Achimota Forest lands to so-called pre-acquisition owners, both the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (in a letter dated 14 July 2022, ref GA 110/280/01) and the Lands Commission (in a letter dated 14 July 2022, ref SCR/LCS 3/v.7/13) have admitted to us that there are no PAWGDs in place.

We are convinced that the Constitution provided for PAWGDs because public lands must be managed in the supreme interest of the people of Ghana, and not any section of us.

If the public ownership of those lands must be relinquished, then the people of Ghana (as the owners and beneficiaries of those lands) must have the opportunity to see and debate the draft PAWGDs and express our views on them.

We are firmly convinced that without the relevant PAWGDs, it is unconstitutional for either the Government and/or the Lands Commission, to cede ownership of any public lands, thereby depriving the people of ultimate ownership.

LANDS COMMISSION’S DISCLOSURES
In partial answer to our right to information request, the Lands Commission has claimed, by a letter dated 13 March 2023 ref SCR/LCS 3/v.7/73, that only six tracts of public lands have been released to so-called pre-acquisition owners. These lands cover a massive total area of 2,371.867 acres in Accra, namely Mpehuasem, Nungua, Madina and Adentan.

Two of those land tracts (covering 1582.83 acres) have been leased back to the original owners at either peppercorn or no rent.

The Lands Commission explains that economic rent would be applicable upon transfer of interest to third parties. We are aware that all of those lands have indeed been assigned or sublet to third parties.

Yet the Lands Commission, in clear breach of its constitutional duties, is unable or unwilling to disclose who the current assignees and sublessees are, and how much economic rent has been recovered, if any.

The remaining four land tracts (covering 779.037 acres) have been released to the original owners, absolutely and for free.

However, instead of issuing PAWGDs, different Lands Ministers simply assumed unconstitutional land management powers and issued Executive Instruments to redraw the boundaries, and thereby effectively released the lands. These are unconstitutional and void.

Further, the Lands Commission’s 13 March 2023 letter does not appear to have considered other public lands that had been assigned to other public institutions, and which may have also been released.

According to the Supreme Court, such lands still constitute public lands, and that even where such institutions have ‘no further use of the land…, the land reverts to the State represented by the Lands Commission.’

Thus, to the extent that any state institution has released any such lands, instead of returning them to the Lands Commission, those releases are also unconstitutional and void.

CEASE AND DESIST
It is in the light of the above that we write to demand that:

(1)      the Lands Commission should FORTHWITH, properly disclose to us, information on the current holders of ALL public lands (within the definition provided by the Supreme Court) that have been released throughout the country, and how much has been derived by way of economic rent from third-party leases; and

(2)      the Government and Lands Commission should suspend all planned releases of public lands (including the Achimota Forest lands) until the Government has, after public debate, issued the constitutionally-required PAWGDs.

Take notice that if you ignore these demands and/or proceed with any such unconstitutional transactions, we will sue both the Government and the Lands Commission to restrain such unconstitutional conduct, and to reverse such acts.

Yours in the service of God and Country.

Victor Osimhen is going nowhere -Napoli president

0
Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is not going anywhere unless a ‘more than indecent’ offer arrives for him, according to Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis.

At their kit unveiling for the new season, the Italian champions’ chief doubled down on his uncompromising approach towards his star’s future, saying the Manchester United target ‘will certainly wear this new shirt’.

The Nigeria international is one of the hottest commodities in football after firing in 31 goals last season, but an asking price of around £150million has stunned suitors.

With their financial restrictions, such a price would be out of the question for United.

Other heavyweights such as PSG, Chelsea, and Liverpool are also said to be competing for his extravagantly priced signature.

De Laurentiis said: ‘I’ve already told you, Osimhen will certainly wear this new shirt. If a more than indecent offer should arrive, as we have already done with Kvara [Khvicha Kvaratskhelia] and with Victor himself, we will find new solutions.’

Retaining Osimhen is part of a plan to make Gli Azzurri a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

About the new kits, de Laurentiis said: ‘I hope they are a symbol of the renaissance. The project is to bring Naples to the world. It is the beginning of a new era.
