For God and country, saying it as it is (a)

No one was ever given the privilege at the point of conception to choose which family, ethnic group, country or which race he or she will like to belong. God in His wisdom, the Triune God who is Three Persons in One God, solely takes that decision and for a purpose.

God knowing where He is putting a soul, will give that soul, gifts that should be used wherever that soul will find herself, to first and foremost glorify God and secondly glorify herself.

These gifts include the virtues and talents. And one of the things souls must do is to bring love and togetherness within the family, within the community, within the society, within the ethnic group, within the country, within the sub-region, within the continent and within the world, always being in link with the Heavens.

Humility is said to be the foundation of all virtues and this virtue plays an important role in bringing God to people and to the world.

God created us differently and He did so, so that we will unite our differences for right purposes. God is Three and God is One. The Triune God has Three Persons who are equal to One Another.

Everything One does, all Three will do. God the Father creates, and He creates through God the Son and this creation comes into being through the power of God the Holy Spirit.

So, God’s purpose for man is for us to look at one another and work together, co-habitat in peace and love one another, despite differences. That is one of God’s purpose for man and it is Unity in Diversity.

Unfortunately, for every good purpose of God, Satan comes with means to profane it. For example, God gave man the gift of procreation but Satan introduces LGBTQ+ to break down human and family values and nullify procreation.

God made man to associate with one another and together to grow and subdue the earth. Since no one is a complete fulfilment of all of God’s gifts, to make things go on in great harmony, each person is to give up what he has and together what is to be achieved will be achieved in perfection and in the glory of God.

Just as one person may be better in one area than others, tribes or ethnic groups are also the same. No person or tribe must be looked down upon but accepted as an integral part of the society. No person or tribe or people must see themselves better than others and so no person or tribe should condemn others. This is not Godly, what is wrong should be classified as wrong irrespective of who commits the offense.

Coming on the issue at stake where a certain retired warrant officer of the Ghana Armed Forces, Bright Segbefia decided to take me on, for just suggesting to the Nogokpo chiefs and elders to allow what Bishop Agyinasare said to pass so that life can go on, I stand to say things as they are.

Firstly, with his clouded mind and mentality, Bright, blindly wanted to suggest that I am an Asante and implying that anyone who criticizes Ewes are Asantes, I once again want to remind him, that yes, I am an Asante and also an Ewe, just as I am Asante.

My first languages I learnt were Dangme and Ewe. Due to my wide ethnic dispensation, I have witnessed and experienced the bad side of ethnicity from all the four bloods I have in me.

And with that experience, I hate ethnicity to the core and will say things as they are, about or against any of the four tribes I belong to, without apology.

Bishop Agyinasare only said that Nogokpo to him, is the headquarters of demons in the Volta region. Seriously!!! But then Jesus also announced that Satan is the prince/ruler of this world. So, what happens to us, the living who are struggling to make to Heaven?

To me it is all about the spiritual realm and no indigene of Nogokpo should be worried about that statement, because I know that the gods in Nogokpo are the fallen angels who regretted rebelling against God and they are here doing good to society as a form of penance, hoping to be exalted on the Judgment Day and allowed back to Heaven.

I say this, because everything I hear about the Nogokpo gods, is righting the wrong and punishing the guilty ones. I have never heard of human sacrifices to suggest the manifestation of demons there. But the man of God who sees into the spiritual realm, says demons are in and around Nogokpo.

If indeed that is the situation, then they are there to fight the fallen angels for truncating their evil agenda in the region and this always continues in the spiritual realm.

Between what the bishop said and what Bright knows that is said about the Nzema people, which he is too coward to admit that it is also said among Ewes, and that Nzema is a witchcraft citadel, which is more an attack on the indigenes?

Witchcraft is an evil that certain people accept and use against the good of man and society. I cannot call it demonic possession but rather voluntarily accepting to be on the side of Satan.

Now, for a whole ethnic group to be declared as witchcraft is more serious than for an area to be declared as demons’ headquarters. It is to say that for every Nzema person one meets, there is either witchcraft in him or in his family or in both.

Can Bright Segbefia compare which is more a serious statement to make? And yet the Nzemas do not seem bothered about our ignorance to this day. And one thing, we all followed an Nzema man to lead us to independence and so if we follow a wizard, what should be said about us?

Saying it as it is, there are many occasions where Akans, especially Asantes are insulted but they merely ignore. That is not the case of other minority tribes, especially Ewes. When something least is said about them, then as Rawlings would say, the security alert in this country is raised.

The Asantes and the Anlos built a sounding blood relationship which could have seen both ethnic groups forever united in love, but for politics.

It must interest people like Bright to know that in October 1957, six minority political groups merged to form the United Party (UP). Of the six, two were Ewes based parties and one was an Akan (Asante) based.

If the Ewes could again unite with Asantes to form a political party, it can be assumed that political unity and tolerance would merge with ethnic unity and love to make this country a loving peaceful place.

This did not happen as Nkrumah did all in his power to breakup the UP and he used ethnicity to help him to achieve just that. After his exit from power and the country returned to civilian rule, Nkrumaists especially those in the National Alliance of Liberals (NAL) took up the mantle to contaminate politics with ethnicity.

At 9:45 am on Tuesday June 16, 1970, in his speech on the floor of Parliament, Dr. Agama of NAL and leader of the Opposition, called the Busia Administration, backward-looking.

He further went on to make false allegations that Ewes were not being employed into public and civil services and suggested the PP administration was tribalistic. This debate was on the constitutional dismissal of public and civil servants by the PP administration.

In his response, on June 17, 1970, Victor Owusu, reminded NAL of its diabolic agenda, using evil forces to compile a list of 1,800 people, who were mostly Ashantis, Fantis and Northerners to be dismissed from the public and civil service, if NAL was voted into power.

It is just like NDC putting in their 2020 Manifesto, a policy to introduce what would be similar to E-Levy when voted into power, but kicked against it when NPP implemented that policy.

Victor reminded NAL and all Nkrumaists that under the PP government, Ewes had more than their quota when it came to employing CEOs, and whenever an Ewe took office, he or she makes sure that only Ewes were employed in their workplace. This he called an inward-looking nature of those Ewes.

This phrase is what woke up almost all Ewes from slumber and gingered them to prepare for war. And to this day, most Ewes, and I believe the likes of Bright Segbefia as well, hold this against Asantes and the NPP.

But what exactly is the meaning of inward-looking? It is a person or society that are more interested in themselves than in other people or societies. And it showed in the way Ewe CEOs employed mainly Ewes, leaving out other tribes.

Saying it as it is and based upon the above, was Victor Owusu wrong in describing the Ewe CEOs as such, in the face of Dr Agama alleging without proof that Busia was tribalistic and employed only Akans?

Saying it as it is, Rawlings in 1979 decided to end the lives of eight military officers including three former heads of state. Four were Akans, and the others were a Guan, a Ga, a Northerner and an Ewe.

He gave excuse that some of those killed had overthrown constitutional governments and they were all corrupt people. Barely three years later, Rawlings came back to overthrow a constitutional government.

(Bright, please stay tune for the third and final part).

Man City in last-ditch bid to stop Bernardo Silva from leaving for Saudi Arabia

Pep Guardiola (left) is keen to keep hold on to Bernardo Silva

Manchester City are reportedly making a late intervention in a bid to convince Bernardo Silva to extend his stay at the club.

Silva starred for the Sky Blues last season as City secured the historic Treble by winning the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup, but has been tipped for a potential exit.

The riches of Saudi Arabia have piqued Silva’s interest who has been offered a deal that would see him earn over £75m-per-season, with Al-Hilal pushing hard to bring the winger to the Kingdom.

The oil-rich nation has already snapped up some of Europe’s biggest names with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante all joining the Saudi Pro League in the past 12 months.

However, City – although unable to match the Saudi mega-money – have offered Silva a new and improved deal in an effort to convince the player to remain in England.

Silva’s existing deal still has two years to run, meaning that City could command a hefty transfer fee for the Treble-winning star. However, the club appear keen to ward off any clubs interested in entering negotiations.

The 28-year-old is well-loved at Manchester City and has played a pivotal role in the club’s domineering success in recent seasons.

I left PSG because fans repeatedly booed at me -Messi

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi says his relationship with Paris St-Germain fans “fractured” after a “significant” number of supporters started to treat him differently.

Messi, who won the World Cup with Argentina in December, left PSG at the end of last season after two years and has joined Inter Miami.

In the second half of last season, Messi was repeatedly booed and PSG had to increase security around his house.

“I think in the beginning it was something wonderful,” said Messi.

Speaking to beIN Sports, the 36-year-old said: “But then some people started to treat me differently, a part of the Paris supporters. I think the vast majority still see me and treat me as they did at the beginning, but there was a fracture with a significant group of the Paris fans, which obviously wasn’t my intention, far from it.

“It happened just as it had happened before with [Kylian] Mbappe, with Neymar. I know that’s the way they behave.

“I’ll take away with me the people who respected me, as I always respected everyone since I arrived and that’s all.”

Messi said he did not know if Argentina beating France in the World Cup final was a factor.

He was booed by some PSG fans after being suspended for an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia, and again during his final match for the Ligue 1 champions.

In a wide-ranging interview, Messi also said he found it “very difficult” to adapt to life in Paris on and off the pitch following his 2021 move from Barcelona, having missed pre-season and then later having a month out mid-season with Covid.

In contrast, he said he felt “very comfortable” at the start of his second season at Parc des Princes but the mid-season winter World Cup “affected the whole season for everyone”.

Super Sub Emmanuel Yeboah joined by his colleagues to celebrate one of his goals

Ghana’s Emmanuel Yeboah emerged as the hero, leading Ghana to a thrilling victory over Congo yesterday, in their opening game at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Defender Terry Yegbe sandwiched between some Congolese players

Yeboah’s impact off the bench proved instrumental in securing a crucial win for the Black Meteors.

After a goalless first half, Yeboah entered the pitch at halftime, replacing Captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh. It didn’t take long for Yeboah to make his presence felt, as his intelligent pass set up Ernest Nuamah for Ghana’s opening goal.

Emmanuel Yeboah wins Man of the Match

As the game progressed, Yeboah showcased his individual brilliance, coming close to scoring a remarkable goal from his own half. His audacious attempt rattled the post, but it signalled his intent and showcased his incredible talent.

Yeboah’s perseverance paid off soon after when he beat his marker and unleashed a low shot that beat the goalkeeper, doubling Ghana’s lead.

His exceptional performance didn’t end there, as he stepped up to convert a penalty after Edmund Arko-Mensah was fouled in the box.

Issahaku Fatawu breaks away from his marker

Despite Ghana’s comfortable advantage, a lapse in concentration in the dying moments allowed Congo to mount a late comeback. Two quick goals from Reich Kokolo and Yann Ngatse injected drama into the match, setting up a nervy finish. However, Ghana’s defence held firm, ultimately securing a hard-fought victory.

With their opening win, the Black Meteors now turn their attention to a clash with host nation Morocco on Tuesday, followed by a crucial encounter against Guinea.

New agreement between Bahamas and Ahanta to foster trade and cultural ties

Moxey exchanging the sister-city agreement document with MCE for Ahanta West, John Agyare as Western Regional Minister, Kobby Okyere-Darko Mansah and others look on

The Caribbean Island of Bahamas is seeking to re-establish ties with Africa, where most of the country’s first slaves are known to have come from, more than 400 years ago.

To this end, the Bahamas has signed a sister-city agreement between its capital, Nassau and Princess Town- a small coastal town in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region. Princess Town, otherwise known as Pokesu, which is home to Fort Gross Friedricksburg from where thousands of slaves transited to the Caribbean at the height of the trade in humans, is a historic town located in the Ahanta area of the western region.

A signing ceremony held in Agona-Nkwanta, the capital town of the Ahanta West District, brought together a cross-section of chiefs, traditional leaders and people of Ahanta to bond with a government delegation from the Bahamas led by Ginger Moxey who is Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister in the Bahamas.

Madam Moxey, speaking about why her country was embarking on this initiative, said “This signing will strengthen the ties between the Bahamas and the Ahanta and allow for a symbiotic relationship to strengthen both communities. It is the goal of this agreement to assist in cherishing development of cultural exchanges, educational exchanges, economic growth, and development along with the humanitarian related activities between both communities”.

Minister Moxey delivering her address

As part of the agreement, the two cities commit to work together in boosting tourism, encourage trade, build platforms for cultural exchanges among others. One of the things the Bahamas is seeking to promote is its Junkanoo festival- named after Jan Kwa and Ahanta warrior who is known to be gained prominence for standing up to slave masters. The festival celebrates the country’s historical heritage and connection to Africa and bears many similarities to the famous fancy dress festival celebrated in Sekondi-Takoradi, the Western regional capital.

“The children of Ahanta are back home and they are back to take part in its development,” Madam Moxey indicated.

Chiefs and people of the Ahanta area too are upbeat about this new pact. The area, which includes the Sekondi-Takoradi enclave, holds some of Ghana’s biggest tourism and natural resources. However, much of that is undeveloped or under-developed leaving it in years of under-development and unemployment for its teaming youth.

“It is a strong proof that regardless of where we find ourselves in the device of the world, we share strong connections which should bring us together and propel our commitment towards mutual support and growth leveraging on the resources at our disposal,” said Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Minster for the Western Region.

“I am optimistic that this partnership will serve as a catalyst for economic growth-attracting investments, and creating employment opportunities for our communities… by innovative ideas for me and now means creating technologies together and selling it to the rest of the world to create prosperity for our people,” he continued.

For his part, John Agyare, the Municipal Chief Executive said “we in Ahanta are proud that this reunion is happening today. We want it to last and benefit the entire Ahanta. We would do all that is within our power to see this happen”.

Mr Davis who is a historian and a Curator from the Bahamas, established in his recently launched book, titled Black Rinse that the earliest ships that docked on the shores of the Bahamas came specifically from the Ahanta town of Princess Town more than 400 years ago.

The findings triggered many people in the Caribbean country to begin a soul-searching process which would eventually bring them to Ghana and to Princess Town in the Ahanta area.

Mr Davis himself was subsequently enstooled as chief in the area by the Ahanta Traditional Council with the stool name Safohen Jan Kwa II. The move by the chiefs of Ahanta was to begin the process of reconnection between Ahanta and citizens of the Bahamas who had plans of coming back to their roots.

Mr Davis, speaking at the sister-City agreement signing event, said; “The world is watching us, the Bahamas are approaching their jubilee, and the Ahantas are approaching an important crossroad. For 300 years the people from this region have set an example for the entire African diaspora to follow, and this important crossroad; we must unify and move ahead in the right direction.”

Minister for Education Yaw Osei Adutwum (L) and Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, Minister for Information (R) seated at the STEM Road Show held yesterday

The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, has assured that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education will place Ghana at the forefront with nations that use new technology to address societal concerns, raise living standards and generate chances for economic growth and prosperity.

The Minister made this known yesterday, when he spoke at the maiden edition of the STEM Road Show, at the Accra High Senior School.

He underlined the significance of giving Ghanaian children the skills they will need to succeed in the fourth industrial revolution.

“The world went through the first industrial revolution and then we went through the second industrial revolution, and then we went to the third industrial revolution, which was the era of computer science, and now we are at the fourth industrial revolution, where there is a merger of the biological and the electrical, and things are changing,” Dr. Adutwum stated.

He emphasised the necessity for a paradigm shift and the significance of revamping the STEM education to match the demands of a society that is changing quickly, stating “We must nurture the innate curiosity and critical thinking abilities of our students.

“STEM education encourages creativity, problem-solving and collaboration, which are essential skills for the future.

“It is estimated that in some ten years, about 30 percent of the jobs that we give to robots will be done by AI.

“Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing a lot of things. The question still remains, how do we prepare our youth to meet this everchanging landscape?” he said.

He made the remarks under the theme: “Imagine, Explore, Create: Unleashing the Power of STEM,” which is aimed at promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education among Ghanaian students.

Also present at the event were the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Head Teacher of Accra High Senior High School, Evelyn Sagbli Nabia, Students of the school, Labone Senior High, St. Thomas Senior High School and other important dignitaries.

An experiment at the STEM Road Show

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah underscored the government’s dedication to closing the STEM education gap and empowering Ghanaian students in his remarks.

He said the Akufo-Addo administration is committed to funding STEM education as a way to invest in the future of our country.

Ms. Evelyn Sagbli Nabia emphasised the benefits of STEM education for her students, saying it has given them the opportunity to explore new avenues.

She encouraged the students to take advantage of the investment being made and inspired them to consider careers in STEM fields, that they may not have previously considered.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Education, in partnership with the Ministry of Information, gave participants an immersive and engaging educational experience.

Through the first Road Show, students got the chance to investigate cutting-edge technologies do scientific experiments and take part in practical activities that illustrate how STEM disciplines are used in real-world settings.

The maiden STEM Road Show served as a testament to Ghana’s commitment to empowering students and preparing them for a future marked by technological advancements. The event not only sparked a passion for science and technology but also underscored the potential of STEM education to shape the nation’s socio-economic landscape.

Reject politics of ethnicity and tribalism -Joe Ghartey to delegates

0
Joe Ghartey

Flagbearer aspirant and presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Joe Ghartey, has called on delegates to reject politics of ethnicity and tribalism.
He made this call when he met with the Upper West Regional Executive Committee on Wednesday, June 24, 2023, at Wa.
Joe Ghartey said that the founding fathers of the tradition, including R.S. Dombo, would never be forgotten. He however stated that they should never be seen as the basis for tribal or ethnic politics.
He said “in 1957 we became a nation. The then Gold Coast, Ashanti, the North and parts of Trans Volta Togoland joined together to form Ghana.” He further said that since then we have remained a nation; one nation. He said if we introduced ethnicity into our politics we would be sowing a dangerous and poisonous seed and the fruits we would reap would definitely be bitter.
He stated that the delegates should vote for the best person and they should not rely on where the person comes from.
Joe Ghartey said for him a very important criterion if not the most important was what the person has done for the NPP over the years. He said his service to NPP was from its inception in 1992 and he recounted among other things the role in the writing of the Stolen Verdict in 1993. Those present confirmed that he had served the Party diligently and recalled his role in 2009, during the Jirrapa bye-election which arose because of the death of Hon Edward Salia.
Joe Ghartey said he had gathered experience in the Executive, where he served as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice as well as Railways Development Minister. Joe Ghartey also said he was a five-term Member of Parliament who had also served as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. As a President, he said he would work with both sides of Parliament to carry the agenda of the Nation forward.
Joe Ghartey said he had a clear vision for Ghana based on the private sector and the role of government would be to support the private sector. He gave examples of how he would promote the educational sector andhealth sector as a major driver of the economy.
The Regional Executives thanked Joe Ghartey and wished him well assuring him that unlike when he stood against President Nana Akufo-Addo before the 2012 elections the Upper West would not disappoint him. They said he, Joe Ghartey was a good man with a good heart.

Court issues bench warrant for Barikisu Suale arrest

Law Courts Complex, Accra

An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a 45-year-old trader, Barikisu Suale, for defrauding Agnes Tuffuor, a businesswoman, in the sum of GH¢48,000.00.

The bench warrant was issued due to failure on the part of Barikisu to attend court when the case was called last week. The suit was adjourned to July 10, 2023.

The court, presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, was told that Barikisu Suale allegedly defrauded the businesswoman somewhere in 2021, with a promise that she would supply the complainant 300 pieces of cloth from Nigeria if given GH¢48,000.00.

Barikisu made the promise on the premise that the cloth would be supplied within a span of two weeks.

The complainant became convinced and paid the said amount to the accused the following day.

However, after the payment, the accused failed to supply the goods after the two weeks had elapsed and started playing hid and seek with the complainant.

The complainant became alarmed and, on April 10, 2023, reported the matter to the police for investigation.

On April 18, 2023, the accused was arrested and admitted the offence in her cautioned statement.

The accused explained to the police that after collecting the said amount, she also gave it to her agent by name Osman in Lagos to supply the cloth, but when the said agent was bringing the cloth, they fell and sunk into the water.

The accused promised to refund the money to the complainant, but failed.

The court was told that investigations have revealed that the accused used the complainant’s money to solve her personal issues.

After investigations, the accused was charged and arraigned before the court.

Juaben South MA accountant given GH¢1m bail

Court hammer

The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly accountant, Henrietta Kotei Amponsah, has been slapped with GH¢1 million bail bond for allegedly duping a teacher in a GH¢800,000.00 land deal.

Henrietta was alleged to have committed the crime, together with her boyfriend, Samuel Ofori Gyimah.

She was dragged before an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah, on the charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and defrauding by false pretences.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢1 million with three sureties, one to be justified by landed property, while the other two should be ordinary citizens.

Henrietta is currently facing the charges alone, as her boyfriend has gone into hiding.

She was ordered to report to the police once every week and reappear before the court on July 5, 2023.

Details

The prosecuting officer, Superintendant Augustine Yirenkye, told the court that Benedicta Boateng is a teacher and resident of Koforidua, as well as a the complainant in the case.

He added that the first accused (A1), Henrietta Kotei Amponsah, is an Accountant at the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, while A2, Samuel Ofori Gyimah, is currently on the run.

According to him, sometime in the month of December 2022, A1 informed the mother of the complainant that she and her boyfriend, A2, had a parcel of land located at Pantang in Accra, which they were offering for sale.

The complainant’s mother informed her of the availability of the land, and the latter also informed her friend, Marcus Ofosu Appiah, who is domiciled in the United States of America. The court was told that Marcus also expressed interest in buying the said land.

The lovers sold the land, eight plots in all, for GH¢1,500,000.00 to the complainant on behalf of Marcus. Marcus made part payment of GH¢800,000.00 for the land through his friend, the complainant.

However, when the complainant requested for documents covering the land after payment, the accused persons could not provide them as promised.

The complainant later visited the land and observed that another person was constructing a fence wall around the same property.

The complainant reported this development on the land to the accused persons, but they took no action, since they had no title to the land.

The complainant, after realising that she had been defrauded, requested for a refund of the money, but the accused persons refused.  A report was then made to the police and A1 was arrested, but A2 has since gone into hiding.

Henrietta admitted having collected GH¢190,000.00 from the complainant and not GH¢800,000.00.

A1 was charged with the offences and put before the court.

His Honour was also informed that efforts were being made to arrest A2 to assist investigations.
