It’s very hard for entertainers to be faithful in marriage – RMD

Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD)

Celebrated Nigerian Actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has admitted that it is “very hard” for entertainers to be faithful in marriage.

He said married male celebrities are often targeted by desperate ladies who aim to lure them into infidelity.

The 62-year-old stated this in the latest episode of the Teju Babyface Deep Dive Podcast, hosted by comedian Olateju Oyelakin, aka Teju Babyface

Mofe-Damijo said, “It’s very hard for entertainers to be faithful in marriage because of the line of work that we are in. Every one of us is married, we are the target. Look at how women are, how can you escape it?

“Women are like Delilah, they are like Jezebel, they prepare… The only way the enemy can perpetrate their real intention is to constantly aim at the image of God or the symbol of authority in any home. Then shut it down. It’s like shooting a General on the battlefield. You drop him and then the battalion scatter. Their mission is to take down the head of the family.

“So, it’s very difficult [to be faithful]. You have to get to the point where your wife understands what she is up against as well. Because if your wife is not up to speed on what she is up against, then you would be left open.”

RMD is married to television personality Jumobi Adegbesan. The couple got married after he lost his first wife, talk show host May Ellen ‘MEE’ Mofe-Damijo in 1996.

I was robbed the first time I used the Accra-Tema motorway – Naa Ashorkor

Naa Ashorkor

“Every time I use the motorway, I am scared. The first time I used the motorway in my life, I was robbed on the motorway. I was coming from Akosombo, I was with a family, I think they were an Egyptian family. And we were robbed on the motorway. So I decided I was not going to use the motorway again,” TV presenter and media personality, Naa Ashorkor revealed.

She disclosed this on TV3’s New Day show during a discussion about the state of the Accra-Tema motorway road. Naa Ashorkor stated that she was robbed together with another family hence her decision never to use the road again.

She added that she had resorted to praying when she found herself using the road again. Naa Ashorkor further expressed her concern for those who ply the road every day, calling on the government to do something concerning the matter.

“Fast forward to some time in 2014, I went back to using a motorway because I had to go to Pram Pram. And every time I hit the road, I pray. When I tell you, I say Psalm 23 and the Lord’s Prayer the whole time. I’m not joking. It’s a scary experience, and it’s gotten worse now, I don’t know how people who come from Tema to Accra are able to do this every day. It must be very difficult.

“Clearly, the road is bad now. The tollbooths have made it even so much worse, and we’re calling on the government to do something about it now,” she said.

Naa Ashorkor’s comments join a host of other voices including rapper Sarkodie that have called on the government to commence repairs on the Accra-Tema motorway.

iPhone 15: Apple forced to ditch lightning charger

0

Apple has confirmed its new iPhone will not feature its proprietary lightning charging port, after the EU forced the change.

The tech giant said that the iPhone 15, unveiled at its annual event on Tuesday, would use a USB-C cable as the “universally accepted standard.”

A new Apple Watch series was also unveiled with a more advanced chip.

But one analyst said a lack of “headline-grabbing” updates from Apple this year would disappoint some.

“It isn’t a surprise given the maturity of the iPhone and Watch,” said Ben Wood from CCS Insight.

“It reflects just how refined the iPhone and Watch devices are and how tough it has become to deliver truly disruptive updates every year.”

Apple released a USB-C-to-lightning port adapter for £29 ($36). The product connects the lightning port accessories people will have built up over the years to its new USB-C-enabled iPhones or iPads.

The latest iPhone handset, which goes on sale next week, is the first since 2012 to feature an alternative charging port.

The firm said the USB-C cable – which already works with many Apple laptops and iPads – will also work on new versions of its AirPods Pro earphones and wired EarPods headphones.

The EU had told the tech giant to ditch its proprietary charging ports to make life easier for consumers, save them money, and help reduce e-waste by encouraging re-use of chargers.

The company also confirmed it would no longer use leather in any of its accessories and pledged to become carbon neutral as a business by 2030.

Apple boss Tim Cook said the new iPhone 15 range included the “best and most capable iPhones we’ve ever made”.

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have been given brighter screens and improved camera systems, while the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max now come with a titanium frame, meant to improve its strength.

The Pro and Max also have an “action button” in place of the mute switch that can be customised for a variety of functions.

Leaked tape seems doctored – Atta Akyea

0
Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South

The leaked secret recording allegedly plotting the removal of Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, seems doctored, says Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, the Chairman of Parliament’s Ad-hoc Committee investigating the tape.

“It seems to be the case because the second tape is a long conversation,” he said.

Mr Atta Akyea said this on Wednesday when he addressed the media in Parliament after the Committee’s in-camera hearing.

He said the tape, which had gone viral since Tuesday, July 11, 2023, was a shorter version of the new tape delivered to the Committee by Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Atta Akyea told the media that the Committee had ended its sitting, however, it would resume an in-camera hearing from Monday, October 2 to Friday, October 6, 2023.

Parliament’s seven-member bi-partisan Committee, chaired by Mr Atta Akyea, an NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South with Mr James Agalga, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Builsa North, as the Vice-Chairman, is investigating the veracity of the leaked audio plotting the removal of Dr Dampare.

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, a leaked audio recording, allegedly involving a police commissioner and a politician discussing a plot to remove IGP Dr Dampare from office circulated.

Consequently, the Minority Caucus in Parliament called for a probe into the leaked tape.

Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament therefore constituted the seven-member bi-partisan Committee to authenticate the audio and probe into the secret recording of an alleged plot to remove Dr Dampare, IGP from office ahead of the 2024 general election on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

The Committee, was, therefore, charged to report back to the House on September 10 2023 but that had not been successful due to the ongoing investigation.

The Committee is made up of three members each from the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament, and a technical person.

Among the members are Mr Patrick Yaw Boamah, NPP MP for Okaikwei Central; Madam Ophelia Mensah, NPP MP for Mfantseman; Mr Eric Opoku, NDC MP for Asunafo South and Mr Peter Lanchene Tuobu, NDC MP for Wa West as members of the Committee.

While Dr Isaac Lartey Annang, a lawyer and a human rights activist, is a technical person appointed by Speaker Bagbin to assist the Committee.

Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, tendered in his statement to the Committee, while Mr Kwame Gyan, the IGP’s Lawyer, represented him.

In attendance were COP Goerge Alex Mensah, Superintendent (Supt) George L. Asare, and Supt Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, with their lawyers.

Mr Bugri Naabu was also before the Committee with his lawyers for further investigations.

All three police officers had been cited by Mr Bugri Naabu, a Paramount Chief of Namong in the North East Region, as his accomplices in plotting the alleged removal of the IGP from office when he appeared before the Committee on Monday, August 28, 2023.

Thereafter, all police officers on the tape have been interrogated with Dr Dampare being the latest to appear before the Committee.

Cameroon & Namibia qualify to complete Afcon 2023 final list

0
Goalkeeper Andre Onana

Mbeumo was on the scoresheet for Cameroon as the Indomitable Lions beat Burundi 3-0 to reach the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Ivory Coast.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana marked his return to the Cameroon team after nine months out with some important saves in Garoua.

Cameroon finished top of Group C to qualify alongside Namibia, completing the line-up of 24 teams for the tournament.

After a nervy first half, Mbeumo struck for the hosts straight after the break with his fifth goal of the season for club and country.

Christopher Wooh added a second with captain Vincent Aboubakar completing the scoring in added time.

Onana was back in goal, having been suspended by his country’s federation midway through the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

His recall by coach Rigobert Song paid off as the 27-year-old, who signed for Manchester United from Inter Milan in July, played his part in the victory.

If Onana and Mbeumo are picked in Cameroon’s Nations Cup squad, they will be amongst a host of Premier League players who will miss a number of games for their clubs.

Who has qualified for Afcon 2023?

A win for Burundi would have seen the Swallows qualify at Cameroon’s expense, in what would have been a major upset.

However, defeat left the away team on four points in Group C, one adrift of Namibia who claim second place behind Cameroon to book their fourth Afcon appearance.

It means the 24-team Africa Cup of Nations line-up is now complete, with the finals taking place in Ivory Coast from 13 January to 11 February next year.

England coach condemns ‘ridiculous’ criticism of Harry Maguire

0
Maguire has played more minutes for England this season than he has for his club

England boss Gareth Southgate has condemned the “ridiculous treatment” of Harry Maguire, saying the criticism the defender has faced is “a joke”.

Maguire, 30, gained his 59th cap but scored an own goal in the 3-1 away friendly win over Scotland on Tuesday.

He helped England reach the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020, but has struggled for first-team football at Manchester United.

“I’ve never known a player treated the way he is,” said Southgate.

“He’s been an absolute stalwart for us in the second most successful England team for decades – he’s been an absolutely key part of that.

“I’ve talked about the importance of our senior players, he’s been crucial among that.

“Every time he goes on the field, the resilience he shows is absolutely incredible. He’s a top player and we’re all with him and our fans were brilliant with him.”

‘Bellingham puts concluding flourish on world-class display’

Euro 2024: Who needs what to qualify?

Maguire was stripped of the United captaincy this summer and linked with a move away from the club, but remained at Old Trafford after injuries to fellow defenders.

He made his first appearance of the season on 3 September as a second-half substitute in United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Against Scotland, Maguire came on as a substitute at half-time and was mocked by the home fans before he scored a 67th-minute own goal.

“From a Scotland fans’ point of view I get it. I have absolutely no complaints with what they did,” added Southgate.

“But it’s a consequence of ridiculous treatment of him for a long period of time.

“It’s a joke. Not by the Scottish fans but by our own commentators, pundits or whatever it is. They’ve created something that’s beyond anything I have ever seen.

“I think our fans recognised, ‘OK there might be a bit of heat from our own supporters but we’re not going to have others getting into him’.”

Brazilian striker Richarlison says he will ‘seek psychological help’

Richarlison has scored 20 goals in 45 games for Brazil

Tottenham striker Richarlison says he will “seek psychological help” when he returns to England after the international break.

Richarlison was pictured in tears after being substituted during Brazil’s 5-1 win over Bolivia on Saturday.

He said the reaction was down to “getting the things that were happening off the pitch out of my system”.Richarlison has scored only four goals in 40 games for Spurs since joining for £60m from Everton last summer.”I went through a turbulent time off the pitch during these past five months,” he told Brazilian newspaper O Globo.”

Now things are a bit more stable at home. People who only had their eye on my money are no longer close to me.

“Things are going to flow now and I’m certain that I will have a good run at Tottenham and will make things happen again.”

I’m going to return to England and seek psychological help, from a psychologist, to strengthen my mind.

That’s what it is about, to come back stronger.”Richarlison missed a great chance before being replaced in the 71st minute in the home World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in Belem, and was substituted 64 minutes into Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Peru in Lima.O Globo reported that Richarlison has split with long-term agent Renato Velasco.”

That moment of sadness wasn’t about having played badly,” said Richarlison.”In my opinion, I didn’t play a bad match in Belem. It was more about getting the things that were happening off the pitch out of my system, which had gotten out of control not because if anything I’d done but because of people close to me.”

Brazil play World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela on 13 October and Uruguay on 18 OctoberTottenham, second in the Premier League, host Sheffield United on Saturday.”I think I will be part of the next (Brazil) line-up – that’s what I’m working towards,” said Richarlison.

“It’s about doing a good run at Tottenham. I’m going to sit down and talk to them. I need a good run, get into the flow of play and settle in.”. Credit: bbc.com

Dampare: I Have Not Been Favoured! … I went through the ranks to become IGP

0
Dr Dampare appearing before the committee yesterday

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has told the Parliamentary Committee probing the leaked audio tape that he has risen through the ranks before being appointed to the current position on merit.

According to IGP Dampare, granted that he was even favoured, his competencies and academic qualifications merited such courtesy, having served for 33 years in the police service.

Appearing before the Atta Akyea led Committee, that is probing the alleged plot to remove him (IGP) from office, Dampare remarked that promotions in the service were based on years in the profession, qualifications and integrity among others.

“In terms of my ranking in the police service, it has been purely based on my competencies, academic qualifications and hard work, because of the passion I have for the work. I have not, at any point in time, been called aside by any individual and granted any favour that I do not deserve,” he insisted.

“And in addition to that, within the 33 years that I have been a police officer, I have risen through the ranks to become Commissioner of Police and later His Excellency the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, honoured me with the position of Inspector General of Police,” he noted.

When asked by the Committee whether the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, lobbied for him to be appointed IGP, Dampare said no.

The Committee posed that question, based on testimonies by some previous witnesses, but the IGP said that those testimonies were untrue.

JOURNEY

The IGP eloquently but emotionally chronicled his journey in the Ghana Police Service, from when he entered to becoming the overall boss.

He told the committee that he entered the police service as a recruit in 1990, and by December this year, he would have been 33 years in the service.

He explained that to mean that the other witnesses who are officers, COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi and Superintendent George Asare “in terms of who came into the police service first, I senior all of them.”

Narrating his progression within the police service, Dampare stated that he reported to training on December 1, 1990 and completed as a Constable on August 30, 1991.

He stated that within a period of 24 years from being a Constable, he became a Commissioner, which he described as “unprecedented.”

More interesting to him was his becoming a superintendent in 1997, six years after becoming a Constable.

Explaining how he achieved that, Dampare told the Committee that he took advantage of the policy of the service, which permitted personnel to obtain particular ranks with some academic qualifications.

“So, I started off my ‘A’ Level, also by private studies and I was able to get my A Level done. And as a result of that, on the 5th of April 1993, I was promoted to the rank of sergeant. That is two years after I had become a Constable.”

Following from that, he pursued a professional course to become a Chartered Accountant and presented the Certificate of the sections of the course he had passed to the police hierarchy, to make a promotion case, which was accepted.

He was then promoted to Chief Inspector on September 1, 1994 and had the privilege in 1995 to attend the Police College, now the Police Academy, and later became an Assistant Superintendent of police in 1996.

In the same year, he said he became a Chartered Accountant and submitted the Certificates to the service, and he was promoted to the position of Superintendent of Police, skipping the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police, adding that he became Chief Superintendent on February 1, 2003.

Dampare noted that in 2006 he became an Assistant Commissioner of police, a Deputy Commissioner of police in 2010 and in 2014 a Commissioner of police.

COVER UP SHAME

In a soft tone, the IGP said the allegations, which he said were unsubstantiated, have caused him, his family and the team he works with pain.

To him, it was “just not fair” for him to appear before the Committee to answer those allegations, but he had no choice. He was sure that those allegations were baseless and only made by his “brothers” to “cover up the shame” of engaging in the act.

“So, Honourable Chair, I am here, being asked to answer to wild allegations, unsubstantiated by my brothers in order to cover up their shame. I am ready,” he said, in his opening remarks.

The Committee continues sitting today, with the IGP and the previous witnessed being asked to attend.

The Minister for National Security, Kan Dapaah, will also appear before the Committee.

What is not known is whether the hearing would be made in public or in-camera.
