
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment after being convicted in the Sarmreboi case.
The High Court in Accra, presided over by Her Ladyship Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, found Chairman Wontumi guilty on all charges before handing down the custodial sentence.
The court imposed the 20-year prison term after considering the evidence, submissions and mitigation made during the trial.
The judgment marks a significant development in illegal mining in the country.
