The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Dr. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has unveiled specially designed funeral cloths, ahead of the final funeral rites for the renowned industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The unveiling, which took place at a media briefing in Accra on Friday, marked another significant step in preparations for the national farewell ceremonies planned in honour of the late Apostle.
Two official cloth designs were introduced for the occasion. A black-and-red cloth bearing the image of the deceased has been designated for the burial and main funeral ceremonies, while a black-and-white cloth will be worn during the thanksgiving service in Kumasi.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the family, the Head of Family and daughter of the late Apostle, Sarah Adwoa Safo, underscored the importance of adhering to the approved dress code to ensure uniformity, dignity and order throughout the funeral activities.
According to her, a coordinated appearance by mourners would be a fitting tribute to a man whose contributions to national development and industrialisation continue to inspire many.
“We want the events to be orderly and colourful. If everyone follows the directive, it will reflect the honour and respect our father deserves,” she stated.
The funeral cloths form part of a broader programme of activities being organised to celebrate the life and legacy of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, whose influence extended beyond religion into engineering, agriculture, manufacturing and philanthropy.
Clarifying earlier reports about the date for the funeral, Ms Adwoa Safo explained that an initial date of June 25, 2026, announced by some family members, had been revised following extensive consultations with relatives both in Ghana and abroad.
“After consulting family members across the world, it became clear that the time available was too short for many of them to adequately prepare and travel to Ghana to pay their last respects. We, therefore, agreed on a more suitable date that would accommodate everyone,” she said.
She announced that the burial ceremony will now take place on July 30, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region. The following day, July 31, a national farewell service will be held at Independence Square in Accra, where thousands of mourners from across Ghana and beyond are expected to gather to honour the late Apostle.
The final event, a thanksgiving service scheduled for August 8, 2026, will be held in Kumasi, with participants expected to wear the designated black-and-white cloth.
Adwoa Safo further disclosed that the revised funeral dates had received the approval of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, following consultations with Manhyia Palace.
She appealed to members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, traditional authorities, the clergy, persons with disabilities, and all those whose lives were touched by the late Apostle’s generosity and vision to participate fully in the ceremonies.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo, who passed away on September 11, 2025, is widely remembered as a pioneering inventor, industrialist and spiritual leader.
Through initiatives such as Kantanka Automobile, he championed indigenous industrialisation and technological innovation, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape Ghana’s development.
