The daughter of the late Apostle Emeritus Professor Ing. Kwadwo Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has urged members of the Kristo Asafo Church and the general public to disregard claims by her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, that the funeral of their late father has been cancelled.
Speaking on Angel Morning Show, Adwoa Safo maintained that her brother has no legal or traditional authority to postpone or cancel the funeral, insisting that he has not been involved in organising the final funeral rites.
She disclosed that from the time of Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s passing, through to the planning of the 40-day observance, Israel Kwadwo Safo neither participated in the planning process nor contributed financially or logistically to any of the arrangements.
According to her, despite his lack of involvement, he appeared at the 40-day commemoration with an entourage, even though he had made no contribution to the event.
Adwoa Safo further recalled that her brother had previously announced that he would organise their father’s funeral on a date of his choosing, but failed to fulfil that promise.
Questioning his latest directive, she asked: “If he could not honour the funeral arrangements he publicly announced, on what basis does he now seek to stop one that has been carefully planned?”She described his actions as irresponsible and without justification.
An emotional Adwoa Safo said she remains committed to ensuring that her father is given a burial befitting his remarkable legacy as a spiritual leader, inventor, industrialist, technologist and philanthropist.
She revealed that she was by her father’s bedside during his final moments and that before his death, Apostle Kwadwo Safo entrusted her with several responsibilities concerning matters to be carried out after his passing. According to her, fulfilling those wishes is both a sacred duty and a moral obligation.
She also disclosed that the funeral arrangements were undertaken in consultation with the Manhyia Palace, explaining that His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II played a key role in determining the funeral dates, after the necessary traditional consultations.
She stressed that the programme has received the blessing of the Palace and has gone through the required customary processes.
Madam Adwoa Safo said official invitations have already been extended to President John Dramani Mahama, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Speaker of Parliament, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other distinguished personalities, many of whom have confirmed their attendance.
She noted that extensive preparations have already been completed, public announcements have been made and all major logistical and ceremonial arrangements have been finalised.
“At this stage, there is simply no basis whatsoever for anyone to suggest that the funeral will be cancelled,” she said.
Madam Adwoa Safo, therefore, assured members of the Kristo Asafo Church, admirers of Apostle Kwadwo Safo and the general public that the funeral will proceed as scheduled.
She urged the public to disregard any contrary directives and to join the family in giving the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission a dignified and befitting farewell.
