Residents and businesses within the Batsonaa enclave are expected to experience scheduled power outages from May 31 to June 1 as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) undertakes a major transformer upgrade aimed at improving electricity supply reliability in the area.

In a statement issued on May 22, ECG said it will replace the existing 20/26 MVA power transformer at the Batsonaa Primary Substation with a higher-capacity 30/39 MVA transformer under the Government’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme. The exercise is scheduled to take place over a two-day period beginning Sunday, May 31.

According to the company, the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure, improve service delivery and reduce system overloads across the distribution network. ECG noted that similar projects have already been completed at the Adenta, Nmai Dzorm, Lashibi, Teshie-Nungua and Kumasi Ridge Primary Substations.

To allow for the safe execution of the works, customers within the Batsonaa catchment area will experience phased power interruptions, with outages expected to last approximately six hours in affected communities. ECG said a detailed schedule outlining the affected areas and specific outage periods would be released through its official communication channels.

The company apologised for the inconvenience likely to result from the exercise but stressed that the upgrade is necessary to enhance the reliability of electricity supply and improve overall service delivery to customers.

ECG also thanked customers for their patience and cooperation as work continues to modernise the country’s power distribution infrastructure.

The statement was signed by Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Communications at ECG.
