The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has moved to reassure the public following concerns raised by some prepaid customers and stakeholders over the integrity of its metering and billing systems.

In a statement sighted by The Chronicle, the power distributor maintained that all electricity meters deployed across the country undergo rigorous testing and calibration procedures to guarantee accuracy.

According to ECG, its quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards. The company further indicated that its meter testing laboratory is state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide.

The statement emphasised that, beyond ECG’s internal testing regime, all meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to ensure compliance with approved standards before they are rolled out for public use.

While expressing confidence in the reliability of its metering systems, ECG acknowledged that some customers may have genuine concerns regarding billing.

The company disclosed that, in line with a directive from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, it has commenced investigations into all complaints received.

As part of efforts to ensure transparency and accountability, ECG said it has formally requested the GSA to independently and randomly select meters for testing both in the laboratory and in the field. The outcome of the exercise, it added, will form part of its report to the Minister.

ECG reiterated its commitment to responsive, transparent and accountable service delivery, and appealed to customers and stakeholders for continued cooperation as the investigations proceed.
