Duraplast marketing officer slapped with 9 counts of stealing

Samuel Allotey Annan, 27 and a Marketing Officer at Duraplast Ghana Limited, has been slapped with nine counts of stealing. Annan has been accused of stealing a total amount of GH¢107,798.31 from his employers.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and had been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties by an Accra Circuit Court. The court, presided over His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, last week ordered that the sureties should be civil servants earning not less than GH¢2,000, as well as residents of the jurisdiction of the court. Mr Acquah adjourned the case to December 12, 2022.

Brief Facts

The case was presented to the court by the Prosecuting Officer, DSP Augustine Yirenkyi. According to him, the accused, Annan, was reported to the police by the Head of Sales Department at Duraplast, Emmanuel Ofori Antwi.

He told the court that on May 5, 2022, the company’s accounts system detected some financial irregularities, with regards to some unaccounted payments made by its customers.

The company then discovered that Geon Great Enterprise paid an amount of GH¢5,543.00, and King Poyooyo Enterprise, GH¢12, 730.00 to the company, but they didn’t reflect in the system.

Similarly, Reliance Enterprise, Zaqu Enterprise, Renpaul Enterprise, Godel Wear and Juliet Agyapong Company Limited made payments to the company in a total sum of GH¢89,525.31 to procure water tanks, but could not be traced in the system.

According to DSP Yirenkyi, it was based on this revelation that the complainant filed a report with the police for investigation, and the accused was arrested to assist.

He stated that the accused was cautioned and volunteered a statement to that effect, saying “during investigation, it was revealed that none of the above companies made a request for the acquisition of any product from Duraplast Company.

“An amount of GH¢13,500 was retrieved and retained for evidential purposes.

Meanwhile the accused was charged after investigations and put before this honorable court.”
