AngloGold Constructs GH¢2.I3m Police Headquarters for Obuasi

AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has handed over a fully furnished GHC2.I3 million Obuasi District Police Headquarters block it has constructed to the Ghana Police Service.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Acting Managing Director of the company, Mr Awie Frey, noted that AngloGold’s decision to provide an infrastructure to house the Obuasi District Police Headquarters was born out of a need identified through regular strategic engagements with security agencies.

“The infrastructure, constructed by an Obuasi-based construction company, Kenzard Company Limited, boasts of modern facilities including interrogation rooms, a conference room and fully furnished dedicated offices for the various units,” he stated.

Mr. Awie Frey said, “We are optimistic that the infrastructure will provide a befitting office for the Obuasi District Police Command and will ultimately not only enhance law enforcement efforts but also contribute to the overall well-being of our communities.”

The Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP George Ankomah, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police expressed appreciation to AngloGold for the construction of the facility.

He charged the residents in the area where the new District Police Headquarters is situated to liaise with the officers and report all criminal cases to them for investigations to be conducted.

He also warned that residents should not take the law into their own hands to give instant justice to any person.

Mr. I. K. Acheampong a Director of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah thanked AngloGold for providing various infrastructures, including schools, to improve the lives of the people in Obuasi and its environs.

The Edubiasehemaa, Nana Akua Dwum II, called on all and sundry to give the police the needed support to enable them to deliver, pointing out that the police on countless occasions work at the peril of their lives.
