The Ghana Navy Command stationed at Ada in the Greater Accra Region has expressed surprise over the failure of the police to take criminal action against three heavily built armed men it recently arrested for engaging in gangsterism.
The Ada Navy Command told The Chronicle that the three armed men attacked the Mensah/Adu family of the Kudzragbe Clan.
According to the Navy, prior to the 2026 Asafotu Festival of the people of Ada Traditional Area, the command received a letter from the Mensah/Adu family notifying it of the performance of annual customary rites and rituals.
When the navy patrol team arrived at the residence on the said day, the Command said no violence was witnessed as earlier reports suggested, but another group, which was at the residence for a reason they (navy) were not privy to, were both advised to maintain peace.
The Navy Command further told The Chronicle that two police personnel were seen in the house at the time the patrol team visited the Mensah/Adu family residence. But shortly after
the Navy left for patrol duties in the Big Ada Township, the Command said it heard gunshot sounds from the same house.
The patrol team immediately moved to the scene and saw three heavily built men with a rifle each, including fired cartridges. The Navy managed to retrieve two out of the three guns from the three men.
The Command told The Chronicle that a chief called later to plead for the release of the seized guns, but it declined. The gun and the cartridges, the Command said, were handed over to the Ada District police, where the Command officially lodged a complaint.
Since then, the naval source said the police have not invited them (navy) let alone take a statement from them.
A couple of weeks ago, the Navy said both the District and Divisional Police Commanders met them at the Ada District Headquarters at Atortorkope on the matter, where it officially briefed them. At the District Command, the Navy Command said it met the macho men and pointed them out to the police commanders; however, no arrest was made.
Nomo Simon Ofoe Mensah, an elder of the Mensah/Adu family on his part told The Chronicle on the telephone on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, that he led his family elders to officially lodge a complaint about the attack on his family to the Big Ada Police on August 8, “and I am so surprised that the police have failed to act.”
Nomo Mensah told The Chronicle that the family officially wrote to the Ada Divisional Command, the District Police Command, the Navy Command and DISEC to provide them with security at their family residence for the performance of the customary rites and rituals before the Asafotu Festival.
“Indeed, the police sent two personnel to our residence, but they stood helpless as the armed men came to our residence and fired gunshots and seized the mobile phones of some of my family members who were videoing their dastardly acts,” Nomo Mensah narrated.
When contacted, the Ada District Police Command confirmed the receipt of a complaint from the Navy patrol team on the dastardly act at the Mensah/Adu family residence, but said the matter had been referred to its superiors.
