The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has inaugurated an 11-member Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC) to advance proposals for the review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
The inauguration follows government’s announcement of its position on recommendations contained in the report of the Constitution Review Committee chaired by Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh.
The newly constituted committee is expected to examine government’s position paper alongside the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee and develop a comprehensive framework for implementing proposals approved by government.
The committee is chaired by Presidential Legal Counsel and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew.
Its membership includes Dr Justice Srem Sai, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei, Dr Rainer Akumperigya, and Emelia Ankomah, representing the Majority in Parliament.
Kwame Ayimadu Antwi represents the Minority, while Samuel Passah represents local government.
The other members are Oliver Baker Vormawor, who will serve as Secretary; Salamatu Iliasu, the Draftsperson; and Eric Owusu-Mensa, who will serve as Parliamentary Liaison.
The Ministry of Justice said the committee’s work would focus on translating the recommendations and government’s position into an actionable framework for constitutional reform.
According to the Ministry, the exercise forms part of government’s commitment to an inclusive and transparent constitutional review process that reflects the aspirations of Ghanaians and strengthens democratic governance.
The inauguration marks a further step in the constitutional reform process initiated following President John Dramani Mahama’s establishment of the Constitution Review Committee last year.
