Dr. Jefferson Seneadza, a Technology and Information systems specialist, CEO and Founder of Ayatickets and Aftownmusic, has reemphasized the need for the media to learn the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance their work.
He said AI as a transformative tool must be married with professional skills and ethics as the world becomes increasingly shaped by digitization.
According to him, the world keeps changing with technological advancement, especially by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Most roles are gradually becoming filled by models designed to perform what would otherwise require human intervention and Journalism.
He made the call during a lecture to cohort 11 of the Africa Extractive Media Fellowship (AEMF) at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) in Accra.
In the lecture which centered on “Prompt Engineering”, Dr. Seneadza detailed how journalists could better harness their skills by writing clear, structured and purposeful instructions that guide AI systems like Chat GPT, Gemini or Claude to produce the desired output, saying “if you ask good questions, you get better answers”.
His innovative term “CICO” framework was used to explain why it matters for every journalist to have proper knowledge and know-how of Prompt Engineering; Context & Background means to define environment, audience and role.
This was issued with a caveat to avoid overloading prompts, ignoring verification and blind trust in AI, as they fall below the ethical consideration of the media profession.
In his closing submission, he retorted that “Human oversight is non- negotiable”, as ethical consideration would require for a disclosure when AI is used, fact checking before publication and non-replacement of editorial judgment with AI.
