The Kumawu Traditional Council, headed by Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, has celebrated the Papa Nantwie Festival of the people, for the first time in 19 years.

The 2026 Kumawu Papa Nantwie Festival was observed from March 3, 2026 climaxing on the last Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Kumawu, as a renewal of community spirit and optimism for continued growth.

The festival, known as a high-stakes cultural event, marking the bravery of the Kumawu people, with major celebrations, including the cutting of cow meat is a commemoration of Nana Tweneboa Kodua I, who sacrificed his life to assist the Ashanti Kingdom.

Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua sat in state to receive guests for the occasion. Special guests included: Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntrama II (Essumejamanhene); Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem II (Tepamanhene); Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah (Manso Nkwantamanhene); Nana Effah- Appenteng (Bompatamanhene); Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere II (Nsutamanhene) and Nana Oti Awere II, Tikromhene.

Other dignitaries were Nana Owusu (Obogumanhene); Nana Yaa Asantewaa II (Ejisumanhemaa) and Nana Nyarko Aboraa Sika III (Manso Nkwantamanhemaa).

The rest are Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, former Governor, Bank of Ghana and former Minister of Finance; Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament, Sekyere Kumawu and Kwasi Amankwaa, District Chief Executive.
