Erudite Women’s Empowerment Foundation (EWEF), a not for profit organisation, with funding support from African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), is implementing the Gender Justice Caravan Project, aimed at effectively addressing gender-based abuses within and around the Asante Akyem area.
The project is a mobile outreach initiative purposely to promote justice, prevent gender-based violence and empower girls and young women through awareness creation and to eliminate harmful gender norms and stereotypes, which continue to undermine the safety, dignity and progress of girls and women.

The Executive Director of EWEF, Mrs. Ohenewaa Constance Ankoma, explained during inception and stakeholders briefing at Konongo, last Wednesday, that the main purpose of the Gender Justice Caravan Project is to promote awareness among target groups on gender based violence and how to ensure gender justice within the Asante Akyem enclave.
She said this “is to ensure that by the end of the project, we have a reduced rate with regards to gender-based violence” in the area, particularly violence that affect women and girls who are the most vulnerable group.
AWDF is supporting EWEF, with funding to promote community based awareness through engagements with target groups within the project area and educate them on their rights, reporting mechanisms and what even constitute gender based violence.
The Gender Justice Caravan Project, Mrs. Ankoma explained, will also engage policy makers and major stakeholders in various institutions to look at the existing laws and policies on gender-based violence and how the project can influence the implementation and enforcement of same.
The Executive Director said the project runs for ten months ending in September 2026 and intimated that after the current project, EWEF intends to implement other gender based programmes including creating awareness among girls in first and second cycle institutions on sexual harassment.
Participants at the inception and stakeholder meeting included Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Social Welfare Department, Disability groups, Ghana Education Service, Youth and Women groups, Media, Ghana Health Service, EWEF Board representative, Queen mothers and the National Youth Authority (NYA) for a better stakeholder understanding and strengthened partnerships and coordination.
It was also meant to ensure stakeholder commitments to support the project and make easy access and entry to target communities.
Nana Owusuaa Achaa, the Akwamuhemaa of Juansa, expressed her excitement about the initiative by EWEF to create awareness on gender based violence among girls and women, and appealed to the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection and allied government agencies to support the Gender Justice Caravan Project.
