Mr Malik Basintale, the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has tasked staff and beneficiaries to remain active and contribute their quota to national development to justify the allowances paid to them.
Mr Basintale, while speaking to staff of the Agency at a Regional Staff Durbar in Kumasi, advised beneficiaries to keep working diligently for the country so that the public will not perceive the monies paid to them as a waste.
As part of the durbar, Mr. Basintale presented start-up tools to beneficiaries to enable them to begin work immediately in their respective trades.
He urged them to use the tools effectively to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the country’s development. He advised them to do their best and stay active, for their work to show that the programme is making an impact.
According to him, the Agency has engaged staff across various divisions to ascertain their needs in order to factor them into future plans and take pragmatic measures to improve operations. He added that staff motivation remains a priority for the Authority.
He noted that everything under the Agency has been reset and people are feeling it. It is their interest to set records and break them, and keep setting them again. And that is how they are going to build a formidable agency.
Mr. Basintale announced the introduction of new modules including Community First
Responders, Community Health Responders, and Community Fire Assistance.
He also disclosed that the YEA Job Centres are actively working and that an Arabic Instructor Model and a Delivered Exchange Programme are currently operational.
He stressed that paramount among them is the training of over 30,000 people in 17 different skills areas.
On the Sanitation Module, Mr. Basintale noted that Zoomlion remains a service provider under the programme and explained that the decision on whether the sanitation module will be returned to YEA rests with Cabinet.
He said the Authority is fully prepared and ready to support the cleanliness of the country, but did not get the opportunity to implement the module earlier because of public concerns and challenges following, which sanitation has been decentralized to the Assemblies to manage.
The CEO said instead of spending thousands of cedis to set up a structure to work as a plumber, carpenter or electrician, beneficiaries can now register on an online portal and be matched to clients from the comfort of their homes, similar to how ride-hailing apps operate.
According to him, once one is certified by CID, NVTI and TVET, clients can be assured of one’s safety and competence.
