Trader slapped with GH¢8,000 bail for, rape, robbery

Callistus Ugochukwu Okafo, alias Johnson Attah, 45 and trader, has been slapped with bail of GH¢80,000 with two sureties by an Accra Circuit for allegedly raping and robbing the complainant on their first date.

The complainant claimed she met the accused on a dating site called Meet 24 somewhere in March this year, and they both agree to meet physically.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector Jonas Lawer, to the court, presided over by Rosemary Torsu Baah, yesterday that the accused, who lives in Mamprobi Kamara, arranged to meet the complainant for the first meeting on March 16, 2022.

He said the two agreed and met at a spot near the Korle-Bu Total Filling Station at about 9:15pm, but the accused got there around 10:15pm.

Inspector Lawer added that Callistus took the victim to an unknown location and at knife point robbed her off her Infinix mobile phone, after which he raped her.

The court was further told that the following day after the incident, the victim was in a vehicle from Dansoman Agege to Nkrumah Circle when she spotted the accused person at Mamprobi Lotto House Bus Stop.

“The victim got down and demanded for her mobile phone, and this led to a struggle between the two, and with the help of a friend, a witness in the case, and others, the accused was arrested and sent to [the] Mamprobi Police Station where a complaint was lodged.”

He said the victim was issued with a medical report form to attend hospital, where a sample was taken from her vagina for medical examination.

Adding that, “the case is still under investigation.”

The case was, therefore, adjourned to May, 16, 2022 for hearing.
