The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man with 37 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at New York, near Airport Junction, following an intelligence-led operation.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Saani, was arrested on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., after a police team acted on intelligence to conduct an operation in the area.

According to a press release issued by the Tema Regional Police Command on Tuesday, October 27, the team retrieved a bag containing 37 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp, together with a crusher.

The suspect was subsequently escorted to the police station with the exhibits to assist investigations into the alleged possession and possible distribution of narcotic substances.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Saani may have been involved in the distribution of suspected narcotic substances within New York and its surrounding communities.

The police also indicated that intelligence gathered suggested the suspect allegedly feigned madness to conceal his suspected illicit activities.

The substances are expected to be forwarded for forensic examination to establish their nature, while investigations continue to determine whether other individuals may have been involved in the alleged activities.

The Command said the suspect and any accomplices identified during the investigations would be arraigned before the court upon completion of the process.

Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against involvement in narcotics-related activities and urged residents with credible information on the possession, distribution or trafficking of illicit drugs to report to the nearest police station.

The Command further called for continued public cooperation with the police in combating drug-related offences and protecting communities, particularly the youth.
