Tension is brewing in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Suame constituency, after the Women’s Wing accused Mr. Owusu Ansah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Suame Assembly of side-lining them, since assuming office and thus weakening the party structure in the constituency.

At a press conference held at the constituency party office, the Suame Constituency Women’s Organiser, Madam Asmawu Bello, alias Empress, told the media that the MCE had neglected the Women’s Wing, despite their tireless efforts during the 2024 general election campaign.

According to her, the MCE has side-lined party structures and is working only with a few individuals that he is comfortable with to advance his personal political interests, to the detriment of the constituency and branch executives.

She stated that since the MCE assumed office, he claims he cannot work with the Women’s Wing and cannot assist them with even soft loans to start their businesses. She said the MCE has left them jobless and in abject poverty since the party won power in 2024.

Madam Bello added that none of the branch executives, whom she described as the backbone of the party at the constituency level, have been employed in the municipality, alleging that government appointments are given to individuals close to the MCE, while the constituency and branch executives are ignored.

The Women Organiser stressed that though their party is in government, the actions and inactions of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Owusu Ansah, has reduced them into orphans in the constituency and become a laughing stock to opposition members, because we and our families remain jobless.

The Women’s Organiser appealed to the party hierarchy, from the regional to the national level, to rise up and rescue the party before it is too late, stressing the need for an intervention before the situation worsens, ahead of the 2028 campaign.

She reiterated that they do not want the party in the constituency to get to a stage where they say ‘Eye Zu’ and nobody responds ‘Eye Za’.

Reached on phone for his reaction, the MCE told to reporter that he was too busy in the office at the time to respond to the accusations.
