An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a car dealer for failing to supply a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Mercedes Benz G-Wagon to a colleague car dealer, after allegedly taking GHC450,900.00 and USD45,000 from him.
Peter Kusi Boateng denied conspiring with Kofi Osei Boateng, at large, to defraud Mr Francis Tetteh.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Issah Achiburi, giving the facts of the case, said Mr Tetteh, the complainant, was also a car dealer residing at East Legon Hills, Accra.
He said Kusi is a resident of Oyarifa whilst Osei is at large. In November 2024, the complainant contacted Kusi, the first accused person, to assist him purchase a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon from the United States of America (USA), the court heard.
ASP Achiburi said Kusi, in the presence of the complainant, contacted Osei, the second accused person via phone, who demanded an amount of GH¢450,900.00 from the complainant, being the cost of the vehicle.
On November 20, 2024 the complainant paid the said amount to Kusi. Prosecution said the complainant, whilst awaiting delivery of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the first accused person sent images via Whatsapp of other vehicles; a Range Rover, Mercedes Benz G-Wagon and Mercedes Benz S-Class, claiming they were available for shipment to Ghana through the second accused person.
ASP Achiburi said in February 2025, one Isaac Nunoo, a witness in the case, who was interested in buying the Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, paid $50,000.00 as part payment for the vehicle.
The amount was subsequently handed over to Osei, in the presence of Kusi, the first accused person.
ASP Achiburi said the accused persons assured the complainant that the vehicles would be delivered in April 2025.
However, they failed to deliver the said vehicles as promised and on November 13, 2025 the complainant petitioned the Director-General/CID and the case was referred to the Auto Theft Unit of the Ghana Police Service for investigation, leading to the arrest of Kusi, ASP Achiburi told the Court.
In another development, Charles Tawiah reports from Nkawie in the Ashangti Region that a 60-year-old driver has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for allegedly misappropriating GHC 275,000 belonging to his family.
The accused, Kwame Mensah, pleaded not guilty to the charge of dishonest appropriation and is expected to reappear before the court on May 27, 2026.
Police Chief Inspector Anthony Ohene Gyan, who is prosecuting the case, told the court presided over by Mr. Robert Addo that the complainant, Kofi Nyame, is the head of the Aduana family at Mpatuam, in the Amansie West District.
According to the prosecution, the family sold a portion of its farmland in November 2025 for GHC 275,000 and the proceeds were entrusted to the accused for safekeeping.
The court heard that in December 2025, when the family requested the money for the renovation of their family house, the accused informed them that he had invested the funds in treasury bills and would be able to refund the amount in February 2026.
However, by April 2026, he had neither refunded the money nor provided any documentation to support his claim that the funds had been invested in treasury bills.
The matter was subsequently reported to the Nkawie Police on May 6, 2026 leading to his arrest.
In his caution statement, the accused admitted receiving the money, but claimed he had been robbed by three unidentified young men while transporting the cash from Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District to Mpatuam.
Following investigations, he was formally charged and arraigned before the court.
