Students urged to make Free SHS policy relevant

Dr. Mrs. Amina Achiaa Asiedu-Amoah, a retired Educationist and Proprietress of Jesus Cares International School at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, has entreated students to make studying their priority to complement government efforts in ensuring that the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy succeed.

According to her, the student factor was critical, and played a key role in the success of the FSHS programmme, and, therefore, should ensure that the huge investment and resources committed into the programme by the government since 2017 was not wasted.

The retired Municipal Director of Education gave the advice at the 3rd Awards and Graduation Ceremony of the school at Obuasi.

Speaking on the theme: “Academic Excellence – The role of students in national development,” Dr. Asiedu-Amoah expressed the view that, students who were at the center of the Free Senior High School programme must appreciate their role in making it a success, whiles government was making the effort to finance their education.

She reiterated that, students had the responsibility to learn hard to make sure the programme achieves its intended purpose, which was to improve access and quality of education.

She called for stakeholders’ involvement and collaboration to help effective improvement in academic performances in schools.

The Proprietress disclosed that, Jesus Cares International School had achieved academic laurels since its establishment in 2000, which, she added, was as a result of discipline, coordination, interpersonal relationship, and excellent communication among all the stakeholders involved in the running of the school.

She said for a school to maintain higher educational standards, it was incumbent upon management to involve parents as a key decision-making body.

Master Isaac Quansah, who emerged the Overall Best Teacher, attributed his success to commitment and dedication to get the best out of the pupils.

Rashid Iddrisu Agyeman was also adjudged the Overall Best Pupil. He stated that it was hard work and the zeal to succeed that accounted for his achievement, and encouraged his colleagues to work hard and persevere in order to achieve academic excellence.
