Scores of soldiers on Monday and Tuesday, 6th and 7th March went berserk at Ashaiman Official Town where they brutalised residents, motorists and commuters they could pounce on.

Similar to the events during the peak of the lockdown period in 2021, the armed soldiers mounted barriers along the Ashaiman—Official Town street to prevent vehicles from moving to and fro and subsequently, keeping most residents indoors.

The actions by the soldiers were to avenge the murder of their young colleague by some irate of Official Town in the wee hours of Saturday, 4th March.

The soldier, who was reportedly carrying a laptop and on his way to see his mother at that time on Saturday, was attacked by some thugs who attempted to rob him of the gadget.

The brutality by the soldiers reached a crescendo on Tuesday dawn when they brutally beat up some workers of B5 Plus Company, who were on their bus to work.

The driver of the B5 Plus company bus was stopped by the peeved soldiers close to the Ashaiman Municipal Fire Service Station and without any provocation, beat up some of the workers who could not flee.

A victim, Michael Amegbletor, 47, sustained injuries on his head and was reportedly rushed to a hospital.

The situation was not different at the Afariwa Junction, which is close to Michel Camp along the Tema—Akosombo highway.

Several workers returned home on Tuesday morning as they feared being brutalised by the soldiers who were taking revenge for the murder of their colleague.
