Sam Payne Joins Clean-Up Exercise In Kumasi

Mr. Samuel Payne, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi last Saturday joined in a massive clean-up exercise to clear the city of filth.

The five-hour exercise, led by the Environmental-Sanitation Department of the KMA and Zoomlion Ghana Limited cleared choked gutters and garbage on the streets at the Central Business District of Adum.

The occasion was also used to sensitise the traders on the essence of keeping their surroundings clean and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The Mayor entreated Business men and women plying their trade at the Kumasi Central Business District (CBD) to keep their surroundings clean at all times.

He cautioned that the authorities would not tolerate any form of indiscipline regarding environmental-sanitation, citing the huge amount of money spent by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in managing waste in the city.

According to him, any trader who does not do the right thing will be made to face the full rigours of the Assembly’s bylaws on sanitation.

The mayor indicated that his Administration was bent on restoring the metropolis to its status as the ‘Garden City of West Africa’ and pleaded for the involvement of all stakeholders, including traders, to help the KMA to achieve its set objectives.

He stressed that, the clean-up exercise would be organised regularly for the benefit of the people in the Metropolis and the region as a whole, reminding the traders that keeping Kumasi clean is a shared responsibility and  that the onus lies on the people to be responsive to environmental-sanitation issues.
