Outgoing Black Stars Head Coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), his players, technical staff and Ghanaians, saying the country’s football future depends as much on developments off the pitch as performances on it.
In a farewell message posted on his official Facebook page, Queiroz reflected on his time with the senior national team, describing it as an honour to serve Ghana while urging stakeholders to build a stronger football ecosystem capable of sustaining long-term success.
“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn,” the Portuguese tactician wrote.
He said although the team had made progress during his tenure, there remained room for improvement.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination—it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions,” he stated.
Queiroz stressed that the future success of the Black Stars would not be determined solely by what happens during matches.
According to him, creating the right structures to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s football talent is essential to restoring the country’s place among Africa’s football elite.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” he noted.
The coach also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Ghana Football Association for the confidence reposed in him.
“To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honour and privilege to serve the Country and the Black Stars,” he said.
He further paid tribute to his players and members of the technical team for their commitment throughout his spell in charge.
“To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to the team,” he added.
Addressing Ghanaian supporters, Queiroz acknowledged that expectations had not been fully met but maintained that the team had succeeded in restoring the image of the Black Stars on the international stage.
“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage,” he wrote.
Ending his message on an optimistic note, the departing coach thanked Ghanaians for their support and declared that the next chapter of the national team’s journey begins now.
“Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now. To the future.”
