Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu has been elected as the new Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region.
Prof Aseidu, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Saint Andrews Group of Companies, which include the famous St Andrews Remedial School, secured 255 votes out of 629 valid votes cast.
Speaking to the press after winning the position, Prof Asiedu described his victory as a sign of great fortune and new dawn to be witnessed in the National Democratic Congress in the Central Regional.
“Now, we have finished with our elections, so we don’t have opponents or opposing camps again, but we have one NDC now.
We are going for victory in 2024, and I know that we are going to forge ahead to win Central Region for NDC in both the parliamentary and presidential,” he touted, adding, “I will urge everybody to rally behind us, because we are new leaders.
If you look at the elected Secretary and the Organiser, they are all young guys and this [is] the blood we need to move the NDC forward in 2024.”
Following his hard-fought conquest, which he has described as a victory for the NDC in the Central Region, Professor Asiedu said, “the NPP should get ready, we are coming.”
The former Regional Vice Chairman, Mr. Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, who desired to take up the mantle and lead the party into the 2024 elections as the substantive Chairman, placed second to Prof Asiedu with 245 votes.
The former contender, Mr. Sebastian L. Kakra Yalley, was third with 114 votes, while veteran broadcaster and immediate past Regional Secretary, Mr. Kojo Quansah, tasted a distasteful defeat with only 15 votes.
