The Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly has officially commenced processes toward the construction of a modern 24-hour economy market in Prestea, following the release of a parcel of land by the Chief of Himan-Prestea, Nana Nteboa Pra IV.

The project, which is expected to transform commercial activities in the municipality, was marked by a visit to the Palace of the divisional chief by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley, Matthew Ayeh, together with the contractor, Jay Blue Company Limited and project consultants.

Speaking during the ceremony, the MCE described the initiative as a transformative project that would significantly boost economic activities within Prestea and adjoining communities.

According to Mr Ayeh, the official handing over of the land by the chief marks the beginning of an important intervention aimed at positioning Prestea as a vibrant commercial center, under the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.

“I, together with the Divisional Chief of Himan Prestea, Nana Nteboa Pra IV, officially handed over the parcel of land earmarked for the construction of the 24-hour economy market in Prestea,” he stated.

He explained that prior to the release of the land he paid a courtesy call on the chief to formally introduce the contractor, Jay Blue Company Limited, as well as the consultants overseeing the execution of the project.

Mr. Ayeh noted that the proposed market would serve as a major commercial hub for traders, entrepreneurs and residents within the municipality, creating a conducive environment for business operations at all hours of the day.

“The 24-hour market will serve as a major commercial hub in the Prestea town and its environs, providing traders and entrepreneurs with a safe, modern and convenient environment to do business around the clock,” he said.

The MCE further indicated that the project aligns with the broader development vision of President John Dramani Mahama aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for businesses across the country.

He stressed that the market, once completed, would not only improve trading activities, but also contribute immensely toward local economic development and revenue generation for the Assembly.

Mr Ayeh also assured the traditional authorities and residents that the Assembly, together with the Member of Parliament for the area, Wisdom Cudjoe, would work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

“I also used the opportunity to assure Nana that myself and the Member of Parliament, Wisdom Cudjoe, will continue to work closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of this important project,” he added.

For his part, Nana Nteboa Pra IV welcomed the initiative and described the commencement of the market project as good news for the people of Prestea.

According to the chief, the construction of the market would give the town a new face in terms of infrastructure development, while also improving sanitation and increasing internally generated revenue for the Assembly.

“Today is good news. The market will bring a new face to Prestea in terms of infrastructure and help the Assembly in revenue generation,” Nana Nteboa Pra IV stated.

The chief further expressed optimism that the facility would attract businesses, investors and other economic opportunities to the municipality.

Meanwhile, the contractor for the project, Kojo Ohene Asare of Jay Blue Company Limited, assured the Assembly and traditional authorities of his commitment to delivering quality work.

He pledged to execute the project professionally and within the expected standards.
