Police mount search for Clearing Agent in Mercedes Benz heist

The Police Command has mounted a search for the arrest of suspect Albert Nketsiah, a Clearing Agent.

A wireless message released by the police says the suspect was under investigation for defrauding by false pretence one Sylvester Mensah, a Ghanaian based in Finland, in connection with the clearing of good belonging to the latter.

The importer, according to the police wireless message, established contact with the Clearing Agent, who obliged to help him in clearing his container at the Tema Port.

GH¢50,000 was then transferred to the agent for payment of duties for the clearing of the container.

The agent received the money, but started playing games with the importer.

This frustrated the importer who moved to Ghana from Finland to superintend over the clearing.

Police reports say when he (importer) got to Ghana, he fortunately met the agent and the container was finally cleared, but without the Mercedes Benz Sprinter vehicle.

The agent, however, told him there were issues that needed to be cleared on the vehicle before it would finally be able to leave the Port.

That the vehicle would first have to be auctioned, before it could be cleared from the Port, a situation that got the importer confused.

Unknown to the importer, the agent had relocated the Mercedes Benz Sprinter to an unknown location.

Failing to receive calls from the importer, Sylvester Mensah, the importer had no choice than to make a formal complaint to the Tema Police for the arrest of the suspect.

For now, the police have mounted a search for the clearing agent through wireless messages to the various police command in the country.
