Police kill man who stabbed policeman to death in Berekum

The Police in Berekum in the Bono region have shot and killed one Yaw Peprah, believed to be in his forties, in self defense, after he stabbed a police officer to death and attempted to stab other officers.

General/Sgt Bright Annobil stationed at the Nyamebekyere Police Station in the Berekum District was stabbed by suspect Peprah, who was alleged to have threatened one Yaw Amankona, which led to his arrest.

When the arresting officers brought him to the Police station, Peprah, who was armed with a knife hidden in his pocket, attacked and stabbed G/Sgt Annobil on the neck and other parts of his body.

The wounded police officer was rushed to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital for treatment but died shortly after admission. The police immediately launched a manhunt in the Berekumtownship to track down the suspect.

Suspect Peprah was smoked out from his hideout at Komfuokrom, a suburb of Berekum, but again attacked and attempted to stab the arresting officers with the knife.

Several attempts were made to disarm him, but he did not budge.

The police had no option than to shoot at him after several attempts to disarm him failed. He was also sent to the Holy family Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Both bodies are deposited at the same Hospital Mortuary for preservation.
