The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested Dr. Clemence Gyato in connection with the alleged unlawful demolition of buildings and structures belonging to the Accra Race Course at Borteyman in Accra.

Dr. Gyato was arrested on Thursday, September 10, 2026, and is currently in police custody assisting the CID with investigations into the incident.

In a brief statement issued yesterday, the Police said the investigation was aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the demolition.

The arrest marks a significant development in the controversy surrounding the destruction of the Race Course properties, although the Police have not disclosed the specific allegations against Dr. Gyato or indicated what role he is suspected of playing in the demolition.

The Police also did not state whether any other persons had been arrested or whether further arrests were expected.

The CID is expected to establish, among other matters, the circumstances under which the buildings and structures were demolished and the persons who may have been involved in the incident.

The Police described the demolition as unlawful but did not, in the statement, provide details of any court order, authorisation or other legal issues surrounding the destruction of the properties.

Dr. Gyato remains in custody as investigations continue.

The Police said further developments would emerge from the ongoing investigation.
