Pastor attributes poor showing of Cedi to excessive imports

The Founder of Open Arms Ministries, Apostle Kofi Nkansah-Sarkodie, has blamed the poor performance of the Cedi against the Dollar on the country’s over dependent on imports of virtually everything, including basic food items that could be produced locally.

He said Ghana was more blessed than its neighbours, because the country was endowed with natural resources, including arable lands, the sea, and lakes, and yet the it continued to “import easy to cultivate food items like rice, tomatoes, onions, maize and even sugar” from neighbouring countries that we are supposed to be better off comparatively.

Apostle Nkansah-Sarkodie, who also responds to Saint Sark, said no politician or party communicator should, therefore, attribute the non-performing currency against the dollar to the Russia/Ukraine war as the cause of the present state of the economy.

Addressing journalists at one of his regular press conferences last week Tuesday in Kumasi, Saint Sark lamented that the currencies of even the protagonists (Russia and Ukraine) are performing better than Ghana.

He emphasised the need to increase productivity and minimise unemployment, adding that any person who continued to support any government policy which “does not promote growth of the country is an educated illiterate.”

The ‘Man of God’ who is also very passionate about spate of illegal mining (galamsey) and its related issues suggested to government to rather seek help from the Israeli government for Drones as the only alternative in the fight against the galamsey menace, otherwise government should stop wasting resources and talking about ending the illegal activity and practice in the country.

Saint Sark explained that any attempt to end the menace “will come to naught because people in high places are involved in the practice”, and added that any security officials detailed to check the practice sooner than later become interested in the galamsey business.

Touching on the Free Senior High School (SHS), he said the government should soften its “stance of no review of the policy” for obvious reasons as most parents are ready and willing to support and relieve government of part of the burden.

On the recent assassination attempt on the life of Akwasi Addai, aka Odike, following his banishment from Manhyia for his unsavoury comments against the traditional authorities, Saint Sark said he did not believe the chiefs would have masterminded the attack after they had performed their rites on him at Manhyia.

He said “some criminals are smart and would want to take advantage of such situations” and appealed to the police in the region to speed up investigations and bring perpetrators to book.
