GREL hands over GH¢600K 2-Unit accommodation to Nsuaem Government Hospital

MD Thierry Cauchy and chiefs cut the tape to commission the bungalow

The Management of Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) at the weekend handed over a 2-Unit bungalow for staff of Nsuaem Government Hospital.
Managing Director of GREL, Thierry Cauchy, accompanied by Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, Omanhene of Lower Dixcove, Awulae Attibrukusu III, Omanhene of Lower Axim and management of the hospital amongst other traditional leaders, cut the ribbon to officially signify the inauguration and handing over of the GHC600K facility.
This is the second time the rubber company has gone to the rescue of Nsuaem Government hospital after it was elevated from healthcare to a hospital status.

The 2-unit bungalow built by GREL to Nsuaem hospital

The first was when GREL constructed and handed over a 2-unit bungalow for use by Nurses of the hospital five years ago.
Corporate Affairs Manager of GREL, Perry Acheampong, in an address conceded that though the facility would not entirely solve the accommodation challenges facing the hospital, it would go a long way to help.

Healthcare, education, sanitation and environment the Corporate Affairs Manager further indicated, were priority projects they would execute in their catchments areas.

He expressed the hope that the facility would be put to good use and for the purpose for which it was built.

The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Beatrice Sam-Omidije, applauded the company for providing the accommodation to the hospital.
She said there was pressure on the hospital because all the CHPS facilities were accessing the hospital for referral cases. As a result of this, it needed more hands to offer quality service.

However, the problem of accommodation appears to have been a hindrance to staff of the facility.
She, therefore, thanked GREL for the 2-Unit bungalow, which comprises of a living room, bedroom, kitchen and toilet.

The handing over of the Apemenyim water project

Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, who chaired the function, singled out the Medical Superintendent for her dedication duty.
Nana Agyemang said everything about the Medical Superintendent pointed to a character who was ready to serve Mother Ghana. He, therefore, appealed to other staff of the hospital to give up their best in service to the country.

Hand over 200k water project to Apemenyim community

In another development, GREL has handed over a mechanised borehole to the people of Apemanyim in the Ahanta West Municipality.
The GHC200 000 water project is one of the social intervention projects the company has provided for communities in its catchments areas.

The Managing Director of GREL, Thierry Cauchy, who commissioned the water project said, “this is a joyous occasion because it is yet another success story and a testament of the development that cordial and peaceful coexistence brings to communities and nations”.
The commission of the water project, the MD indicated, was important to the rubber company because “at GREL we believe that it is essential to create and maintain a strong relationship with our stakeholders for improved livelihoods of residents in our operational communities”.

This, he noted, was done by firmly holding on to the company’s sustainability policy of respect for Human Rights, Responsible Development of our Operations and Best Management Practices, in line with National and International laws, Regulations and Conventions.
In line with the Group’s policy of “Respect For All”, GREL, he pointed out, recognised the importance of the communities in its operational areas.

Hence the need to undertake its operations in a very responsible manner to maintain the social license from these communities, and to that effect, MD Cauchy told the gathering the company had invested over five Million Euros in the last 10 years on projects in the areas of Health, Electricity, Water, Education and Sanitation among others.

“Under the aegis of the ‘Association of Chiefs on Whose Lands GREL Operates’ (ACLANGO), GREL has completed 19 community water projects serving about 20,000 people”, he said, and mentioned some of the  beneficiary communities as Aboagyekrom, Gyabenkrom, Agona-Banso and Amoakaw.

The construction of the water project, he noted, was in line with his outfit’s commitment to ensuring that communities have access to clean water and sanitation.
He expressed the hope that chiefs and people of Apemenim would put in place effective mechanisms to ensure proper maintenance of the new project.

MD Cauchy used the occasion to appeal to chiefs and residents of Apimenyim to put a stop to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Estate Division 7.

These despicable actions by some residents, he said, give the entire community a very bad image.

Present at the ceremony were Ernest Kofi Aidoo, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ahanta West, Ernest Dzitor, Assembly Member for Apemenyim, Nana Kwesi Agyemang, Chairman of ACLANGO and many other traditional chiefs.

Catholic Church shut down over 15 parishes in Benue over herdsmen attacks

No fewer than 15 parishes under the Makurdi Catholic Diocese in Benue State have been shut down due to repeated attacks on host communities by suspected armed herders.

The disclosure was made on Sunday by Rev. Fr Joseph Beba, Chairman of the Nigerian Catholic Diocesan Priests Association, NCDPA, Makurdi Diocese, during a press briefing at the Catholic Cathedral in Makurdi.

Fr Beba said the affected communities, Tse Orbiam, Ahume, Jimba, Nagi-Camp, Aondoana, Yelewata, and Abegana, have witnessed coordinated violence in the past two weeks, resulting in the deaths of over 50 residents, including women and children.

He alleged that the escalation in violence, particularly in Gwer West Local Government Area, followed the testimony of the Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe, in the United States and Europe on the persecution of Christians in Benue and Nigeria.

“These attacks are not random. They are a direct response to Bishop Anagbe’s international testimony on the systematic persecution of Christians. The Church is under siege,” Fr Beba declared.

He criticized the Nigerian military for what he described as a lack of response, even when attacks occurred close to their checkpoints.

Fr Beba called on President Bola Tinubu and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to declare war on the armed herders, noting that Governor Alia had previously identified the attackers as non-Nigerians.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he derives joy from stepping on the toes of ‘big men’.

Wike, who made this known during a media chat in Abuja, said all property owners in Abuja who are yet to pay their ground rent must do so or face the music.

The former Rivers State governor took a swipe at some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including Bode George, saying that the PDP must pay the ground rent for its secretariat in Abuja.

Wike said his predecessors in the FCT including now Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed lacked the courage to compel political bigwigs who own structures in the nation’s capital to pay their annual ground rent.

He said, “Look at what we are doing differently. People have said that FCT was not working (but) now it is working which means I’m doing things that they (past FCT ministers) refused to do.

“I found out that most of them didn’t have the courage to annoy people, to step on toes but I take joy when I step on the toes of big men; those who say nothing will happen but I say something will happen. It makes me happy.

“All they want me to do is to make decisions against poor people saying nothing will happen to them but I say something will happen. That is why we making results. If you don’t do the right thing, too bad. I don’t care.”

The Wike administration in the FCT had published the details of 9,000 debtors in newspapers, asking them to pay their ground rents to avoid the risk of forfeiture.

Interior Decorator granted GH¢650k bail in alleged fraud case

0
Dansoman Circuit Court

The Dansoman Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, has granted bail to a 38-year-old interior decorator, Salih Arab, who has been charged with defrauding by false pretence in connection with a $94,000 contract for interior renovation works in Takoradi.

According to the Prosecution by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, the complainant, Karen Ama Moses, a teacher based in Sekondi in the Western Region, filed the case on behalf of her brother, Ari Ben Moses, who resides in Australia.

Thus, Ari Ben Moses had constructed a five-bedroom storey building for his parents in Takoradi and engaged the accused in June 2023 to carry out comprehensive interior decoration and furnishing works.

After visiting the property, Salih Arab allegedly claimed parts of the building were structurally defective and posed a risk of collapse. Alarmed by this, Mr Moses instructed Arab to coordinate with a qualified technician to address the issue.

However, Salih Arab reportedly assured the complainant’s brother that he could carry out both the renovation and the decoration himself and promised to complete the work by December 2023.

On this assurance, Mr Moses transferred $94,000 to the accused. Salih Arab began minor renovations using materials already on site, including sand, cement and stones.

He then abandoned the project without procuring new materials or completing significant work.

When the complainant realized progress had stalled, she alerted her brother.

A Quantity Surveyor was engaged in September 2023 to assess the situation. The Surveyor confirmed that only a minimal portion of the contracted work had been executed.

A subsequent meeting in Accra between the accused, the complainant’s brother and the Surveyor ended with Arab admitting he had not used the funds as agreed.

A partial refund of GH¢200,000 was made by the accused, and he pledged to return an additional $50,000 in five monthly instalments beginning February 2025. However, no further payments were made.

A professional valuation conducted by the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited in January 2024 estimated the completed work to be worth GH¢108,527.81 – significantly less than the amount received. With an outstanding value of GH¢858,733 – a formal complaint was lodged with the police, resulting in the accused’s arrest.

At the court hearing, the accused pleaded not guilty. His legal counsel argued for bail, citing his fixed place of abode in East Legon, his Ghanaian family ties despite being a foreign national, and his willingness to stand trial. Counsel also maintained the case was civil rather than criminal, describing the matter as a contractual dispute.

Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, leading the prosecution, opposed the bail application. He argued that the accused poses a flight risk due to his foreign nationality and that his assistance was required in ongoing police investigations at the building site.

The prosecution also hinted at the possibility of amending the charge sheet and requested that the case be forwarded to the Attorney-General due to the financial magnitude involved.

Despite the prosecution’s objection, the court granted bail in the sum of GH¢650,000 with three sureties – all of whom must be public servants, one backed by title deeds.

The accused was also ordered to deposit his passport and report weekly to the police. The case has been adjourned to June 23, 2025 pending advice from the Attorney-General’s Department.

Bill Gates to give most of his $200bn fortune to Africa

Microsoft founder Bill Gates says that most of his $200bn (£150bn) fortune will be spent on improving health and education services in Africa over the next 20 years.

The 69-year-old said that “by unleashing human potential through health and education, every country in Africa should be on a path to prosperity”.

Speaking in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, he also urged Africa’s young innovators to think about how to build Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve healthcare on the continent.

Gates announced last month that he would give away 99% of his vast fortune by 2045, by when his foundation planned to end its operations.

“I recently made a commitment that my wealth will be given away over the next 20 years. The majority of that funding will be spent on helping you address challenges here in Africa,” he said in an address at the African Union (AU) headquarters.

Mozambique’s former First Lady Graça Machel welcomed his announcement, saying it came in a “moment of crisis”.

“We are counting on Mr Gates’ steadfast commitment to continue walking this path of transformation alongside us,” she said.

The US government has cut aid to Africa, including programmes to treat patients with HIV/Aids, as part of US President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy, raising concerns about the future of healthcare on the continent.

Gates said his foundation, which has a long history of operating in Africa, would focus on improving primary healthcare.

Too Deep (TDIGG) returns with new single ‘Questions’

0
Too Deep (TDIGG)

After a period of silence following his major album ‘Through It All’ in 2021 and the acclaimed ‘The Risen Christ’ EP in 2022, Too Deep (TDIGG) has re-emerged with a single that is anything but ordinary.

Released on May 30th, 2025, “QUESTIONS” isn’t just a song—it’s a bold, poetic interrogation of the times we live in. Layered in metaphors and rich with double entendres, the track challenges listeners to reflect deeply on the world, on humanity, and on the condition of man’s heart.

Though “QUESTIONS” was recorded in 2022 and mixed/mastered in 2023, TDIGG chose to shelve it, sensing that its time was not due yet. Now, in a world more chaotic than ever, he felt the message couldn’t wait any longer.

The single begins with a slow-paced, haunting vocal over acoustic guitar, then transitions into a drill-influenced rap verse, intensifying as the tempo builds. This progression mirrors the emotional weight of the lyrics—starting contemplative, growing urgent.

The questions asked aren’t meant to be answered—they’re meant to wake us up.

“Believers claim we’re in need of a Saviour. Are we even ready, look at our behaviour?”

“This isn’t just a return—it’s a rebirth of sound and message,” TDIGG is making it clear that music is his weapon of truth.

Now back with full momentum, Too Deep (TDIGG) has announced a stream of singles leading up to the ‘Questions’ is available on all music platforms worldwide. Follow Too Deep (TDIGG) on; Instagram: @deepthesis, Facebook &TikTok: Too Deep (TDIGG) and YouTube: Deepthesis MTPP.

Hajia4Reall

Following her release from prison, Ghanaian singer and socialite, Mona Faiz Montrage, better known online as Hajia4Reall, has announced her comeback with a new song titled “We Move”.

This release is her first public appearance since she returned to Ghana after serving a year in prison in the United States.

The music video of her new song was published on her social media channels, sending a message of her comeback.

The first scene of the music video begins with a dramatic scene of Hajia4Reall in a prison cell, a clear indication of acknowledgement of her legal past.

The song continues with a lyric “If I fall, I go rise,” a theme which encapsulates the notion of resiliency and new beginnings.

Her new single, ‘We Move’, conveys tenacity and the determination to keep going in spite of obstacles in life.

It represents a fresh chapter in Hajia4Reall’s life and a determination to not let her past dictate her present or future.

The public figure, known for her substantial Instagram following, was extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States in May 2023.

Montrage’s incarceration stems from her involvement with a West Africa-based criminal enterprise that engaged in romance scams and internet fraud, defrauding vulnerable, older Americans of over $2 million.

Prosecutors revealed that she personally received funds from approximately forty victims, deposited into U.S.-based bank accounts under false pretenses, including elaborate schemes involving fake gold transport payments and fictitious FBI investigations.

She subsequently pleaded guilty in February 2024 and was formally sentenced on June 28, 2024, by U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken.

In addition to her prison term, Montrage was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to forfeit $216,475 while paying restitution of $1,387,458.
