Feature: Ashanti Youth Organizers Expose Themselves. The October 28 Attack on Bryan Acheampong!

0
Feature

The attack on Bryan Acheampong by the Ashanti youth organizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on October 28, 2025, rather exposed them of their wrong acts that led to the NPP’s downfall on December 7, 2024.

The family feud going on in the NPP is rather amazing. First there was and still is a bitter rivalry between the Bawumia’s camp and the Kennedy Agyapong’s camp. And the party’s national executives are standing by watching as the unity needed in the party is been shattered. Kennedy Agyapong is seen as a threat and so must be destroyed as was the clarion call from characters like Abronye and Wontumi, suggest.

Such recklessness should have been sanctioned by the party’s elders and national executives but rather, it isallowed to fester on. Then Bryan Acheampong, who many at first thought was an also-run in the race, suddenly stood out first looking as if he was going to be the dark horse.

He has become a threat to the members of the pro-Bawumia camp. You see, their deeds are averse to the true Bawumia character which is rather a shame. In all these, the Ashanti regional youth organisers wanted to be noticed, so they decided to condemn Bryan Acheampong.

In a press conference they made a number of attacks on Bryan. I will only address three of them.

First, the youth organizers are condemning Bryan’s request to buy shares in the failing SSNIT hotels, so that he could turn things around and make SSNIT and the state to start earning good profits.

This noble idea was shot down by the NDC and unfortunately, instead of the NPP standing and quoting from authority, that Bryan would do nothing wrong in acquiring shares in the hotels, the party national executives and MPs sat and watched as this fine businessman was accused of attempting corruption.

If Bryan was about to commit crime against the state for only requesting to buy shares, then what about the Rawlings’ regimes of the PNDC and NDC when state assets were sold off cheaply to family and friends?

What happened to GIHOC’s industries, particularly Nsawam Cannery, Tema Boatyard? What happened to GNTC? What happened to Black Star Line? The list is endless?

The same socialists and Nkrumaists who are always saying Nkrumah put up industries and businesses during his time, and should be protected for the state, sold off these assets to themselves, friends and relatives at a loss to the state.

And if today, a patriotic citizen feels he can help the state by partnering with it to make a dying business become profitable, NPP members, like the Ashanti regional youth organizers are saying it is wrong.

The question that I will keep asking over and over again is, what crime had Bryan committed in applying to buy shares in an underperforming state asset which is costing the SSNIT contributor and the state lots of money?

And for the umpteen time Bryan only wanted to part-own the hotels for the state to start making profit and for the pensioner to start earning good pension. Mind you, he was not going to completely take over the hotels, but operate it with the state in a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) agreement. And the NDC shouted foul and coward NPP members sheepishly succumbed to the NDC.

Are these youth organisers aware of state assets including well performing ones like Ashanti Goldfields and Social Security Bank that the NDC sold off to private companies and persons?

Before 1994, Ghana held majority shares of 55%, with significant control and influence in Ashanti Goldfield. Through its “golden share”, Ghana had the power to veto major board decisions and block takeovers deemed contrary to the national interest.

In April 1994, the NDC sold off 25%shares from our 55% hold in Ashanti Goldfields which then became AngloGold Ashanti. From the 30% shares in the new company, Ghana lost more shares and today we only have 10% free-carried interest in that mining company.

Per production of gold in in our Obuasi mines, Ghana ranks the top gold producer in Africa and yet we have no control over our gold, neither do we get good money.

And Social Security Bank was a highly performing commercial bank in Ghana, rubbing shoulders with Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB). It was established by SSNIT with workers’ contribution but in July 1995 the NDC sold off a total of 41% shares from the state and SSNIT, to the public. Today it is an insignificant bank called Societe Generale Ghana Plc. The investment of workers’ SSNIT contributions were all lost.

Now if a political party has this history of selling off well performing state assets, what moral rights has it got to say ‘No’ to someone who only wants to partner the state to run its asset from non-performing to well performing?

And by the way, is it a crime to acquire state assets? The current Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed on January 24, 2025 stated that there is nothing wrong if a person acquires state land legitimately. He was emphatic that acquiring state assets through the proper, lawful procedure is permissible for both public officials and private citizens, as there is no law in Ghana that criminalizes it.

Ghanaians should not be surprise when the NDC members start taking over state assets. And may the NPP youth of Ashanti stand up and support this.

If these youth organizers think they are making this statement against Bryan to show full support for Bawumia, then they should know that this sycophancy will only make good thinking party members and Ghanaians wonder what Bawumia stands for.

The second point is the attack on Bryan for condemning MPs, MMDCEs for hoarding fertilizers. It looks like these youth organizers are feeling guilty for committing such and similar sins against the ordinary hard working grassroot party member.

During campaign seasons, the NPP would usually hand down logistics, gifts and goods to its managers and organizers on the ground to distribute to the grassroot officers and electorates for the enhancement of the party’s electoral chances.

Unfortunately, most times these items are diverted and sold. Those in charge become beneficiaries while the party loses. There is a story of how over three thousand bags of fertilizer were diverted not only from the constituency but also from the region and sold, elsewhere. The money was not given to those who were supposed to benefit from the fertilizer, but it rather entered into the pockets of the one who took delivery of them.

Now, the question is how will such people deliver responsibilities given to them when they become, government appointees? It is very obvious that it will be corruption galore and this is what these Ashanti regional youth organizers of the NPP, approve of and support. For how is it that when a decent fellow like Bryan is condemning corrupt acts, they are angry?

And thirdly, these youth organizers are saying it is double standard for Bryan to blame Bawumia for NPP’s loss. I have not specifically heard of Bryan solely blaming Bawumia for NPP’s loss in 2024. He rather blamed those in charge of affairs for the defeat. And what he always condemned was how money that should be given to the grassroot officers to work at the polling station areas, never got to them or if it did, it would be drastically reduced to peanuts.

There was this constituency which was given GH¢1.5 million for operations on Election Day and the 1st Vice Chairman was not aware of this. How shocking!

Most party officers from the regions and the constituencies made sure they reaped where they did not sow but rather filled their pockets, wallets and bank accounts with money that was supposed to do party work at where it was needed most, the polling station areas. And for these youth organizers to stand up and condemn Bryan, it is clear that they only feel threatened of been exposed.

Today, the NPP is deciding to do a Top-Bottom Approach, by first electing a flag bearer before other officers. This is what these corrupt and failed officers are very desirous about. So, they are all openly backing Bawumia, not because they prefer him, but because if he becomes the NPP’s flag bearer, they will be maintained at their positions and do what they know best; that is clean-out the party’s coffers to enrich themselves and NPP can go to the dogs for all they care.

Knowing that if the party’s constitution on internal elections was respected and adopted, through the Bottom-Top Approach, many party officers from the polling stations through to the national, would be thrown out of office. For how can they be retained after overseeing the party losing embarrassingly at the polling stations and constituencies? The question is how can polling executives be retained at stations where NPP recorded zero vote?

The NPP hasin Bryan Acheampong, someone who is determined to right all the wrongs and instil discipline, dedication and honesty in the NPP. But unfortunately, this is what the Ashanti youth organizers, speaking for most of the current party officers, do not want.

Black Queens coach relishes tough test against England

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says he is relishing a tough test facing European champions England in an international friendly.

Ghana is set to take on the Lionesses on December 2, 2025, at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

The game will mark the first-ever meeting between Ghana and England at the senior women’s international level.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Kim Lars Björkegren said the clash will provide a valuable test for his side as they prepare for next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

“It’s a big game, of course. I think the game is more important in the global world because [England] is the most difficult team to play in the world,” the Swedish trainer said.

“They are probably in the top four in the world together with Spain, France, and the USA right now.

“England are one of the best for sure, and they’re a team that just keeps improving, so it will be a difficult game for us. The fact that they want to play against us is the most important thing.

“We’re talking about a team that can potentially win the World Cup in Brazil. They’re not just going there to participate; they’re going there to win it, and they want to play against us as part of their preparations.”

‘Gyan testimonial match long overdue’ –Black Stars Team Manager

Asamoah Gyan

Black Stars Team Manager Ameenu Shardow has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for initiating a testimonial match for football legend Asamoah Gyan, adding that it’s long overdue. The country’s football governing body announced the decision to honour the former Ghana captain on Tuesday, November 4.

The GFA says the event will celebrate Gyan’s remarkable contribution to Ghanaian football, with full details to be announced soon.

Gyan, who retired in 2023 at age 37, remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.

Reacting to the news, Shardow lauded the GFA for the initiative. “It’s extremely important because, aside the fact that we are using it to honour a distinguished personality, somebody who has given everything for this nation, this also serves as a sign of a nation that appreciates its heroes,” Shardow told Joy Sports.

“It encourages other players to also give their best because they know, at the end of the day, they will be well appreciated.

“So, for me, this is long overdue. I’m very happy that finally, the GFA is taking the lead in getting these things done and not leaving them in the hands of private individuals.”

Gyan has been working in non-official roles with the Black Stars, complementing the efforts of former teammate Stephen Appiah, who serves as deputy chair of the Management Committee.

The two were often around the team, offering advice and motivation during the recent World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expanded the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to 16 teams, adding four nations to the tournament following the completion of the qualification process.

Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, and Egypt have been included despite failing to qualify, after CAF’s Executive Committee approved the expansion. The decision was based on their ranking among the highest-placed teams that lost in the final qualifying round.

The four teams will join Morocco (hosts), Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Algeria, Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Cape Verde, South Africa, and Senegal for the competition, which will take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

CAF described the move as part of its “strategic vision to strengthen the competitiveness and development of women’s football on the continent.”

Nigeria are the reigning champions, having won the 2024 edition in July after the tournament was postponed by a year. CAF had shifted the competition to a summer schedule to align with the men’s version, though this created a clash with the Olympic Games, where both Nigeria and Zambia also qualified to participate.

Ghana Boxing IMC to Lift Suspension on Professional Boxing

Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana Boxing IMC

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially lifted the suspension on professional boxing in Ghana, marking a new era for the sport following months of reform and consultation.

The decision, effective Thursday, November 6, 2025, comes after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (IMC) successfully implemented enhanced medical and safety protocols alongside improved governance structures.

The NSA praised the IMC, athletes, and other stakeholders for their patience and collaboration during the sport’s normalisation process, emphasising that the reforms were vital to restoring Ghana’s proud boxing heritage.

Key pillars of the new framework include published medical and safety manuals, a functional interim medical commission, a centralised medical database, and an approved insurance framework to ensure athlete welfare and institutional integrity.

The Authority says it will continue working with stakeholders to build a safer, more professional, and sustainable boxing environment, while encouraging local and international promoters to host bouts in Ghana under the new standards.

Today’s UEFA Europa and Conference League Fixtures & Previews

Artem Dovbyk, AS Roma

Scottish giants Rangers host Roma at home

Still seeking their first point in this season’s Europa LeagueRangers will welcome Roma to Ibrox, as both sides aim to kick-start their campaign.

While the ailing Scottish giants have yet to get off the mark, their Italian visitors are trailing behind the top eight after back-to-back defeats.

After a dismal start to the season under former boss Russell Martin, Rangers started their Danny Rohl era in similar style by losing 3-0 to SK Brann late last month.

The Glasgow side’s new coach witnessed the full size of his task in Bergen, where conceding twice in a 15-minute spell either side of the break crushed any hope of success.

Including a disastrous attempt at Champions League qualifying – plus Europa League losses against Genk and Sturm Graz – Rangers have now lost their last six continental fixtures, matching the club’s worst losing streak in UEFA competition.

While the hosts’ lack of points leave them last, Roma are barely better off as things stand, occupying 23rd place in the Europa League table.

Not only do Roma boast one of Europe’s best away records throughout 2025, but their hosts are also in crisis – even if a new boss has started to steady the ship.

The Giallorossi should get back on track in the Europa League, edging to victory over a Rangers side still searching for identity.

Aston Villa welcome Maccabi Tel Aviv to Villa Park

Aston Villa will endeavour to return to winning ways in the Europa League when they play host to Maccabi Tel Aviv at Villa Park.

Although there will be no away fans in attendance due to political reasons, more than 700 police officers will be on duty to ensure public safety amid anticipated protests from different groups.

Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa

After beating Bologna and Feyenoord in their opening two Europa League matches, Aston Villa’s 100% record in the League Phase came to an end in disappointing fashion a fortnight ago when they let a one-goal lead slip to lose 2-1 away against Go Ahead Eagles.

Unai Emery’s side bounced back by beating Manchester City 1-0 on home soil in the Premier League just a few days later, but mistakes proved costly in a 2-0 defeat at reigning champions Liverpool last weekend.

Before locking horns with Bournemouth on Sunday, Villa will prepare for matchday four of the Europa League, with their first-ever encounter against Maccabi Tel Aviv falling on the three-year anniversary of Emery’s first match in charge of the club – 82 wins, 29 draws and 43 defeats have been posted across his 154 games at the helm in all competitions (53.25% win rate).

It is difficult to look beyond a routine home victory for Aston Villa, who boast an impressive record at Villa Park. Maccabi Tel Aviv will attempt to frustrate the hosts and hit them on the counter-attack, but Emery’s men should be too strong for the visitors, even if a number of changes are made to his starting lineup.

Stuttgart, Feyenoord faceoff in Rotterdam

Two clubs who are currently sitting outside of the top 24 will meet at the MHPArena as VfB Stuttgart welcome Dutch giants Feyenoord Rotterdam for a crucial Europa League encounter.

Robin Van Persie, Feyenoord coach

Both teams have struggled to pick up points on the continent, but both also boast encouraging domestic records, meaning we could be in for a tasty game this Thursday night.

For all their good work on the domestic scene, Stuttgart are yet to find their groove on the European stage, having picked up just three points from as many league phase outings.

Sebastian Hoeness and his men kicked off their Europa League campaign with an encouraging 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo, but they have since fallen to successive defeats away at FC Basel and Fenerbahce.

As disappointing as that may seem, Stuttgart are actually in a rich vein of form, winning seven of their last 10 matches across all competitions.

Stuttgart have not been involved in a single draw this season, but we expect that to change when they take on a determined Feyenoord side.

Both these teams are capable of scoring goals, which is why we are backing a high-scoring draw over in Germany.

Crystal Palace, AZ Alkmaar in Conference League showdown

Still searching for the first European home win in their history, Crystal Palace welcome AZ Alkmaar to Selhurst Park for matchday three of the Conference League on Thursday night.

Jean-Philippe Mateta, Crystal Palace

The two teams, who meet for the very first time, currently sit level on three points in the 36-team table after winning and losing one game each in their opening two League Phase fixtures.

After celebrating a 2-0 away victory against Dynamo Kiev on matchday one, Crystal Palace’s first home fixture in a major European competition ended in disappointment with a shock 1-0 defeat to AEK Larnaca in the Conference League a fortnight ago.

Palace’s special night at Selhurst Park soon turned into a frustrating one, as they registered only one of their 13 shots on target and could not break down the resilient backline of their Cypriot counterparts.

Head coach Oliver Glasner suggested after the match that the result should serve as a reminder for the Eagles to “stay humble” as Conference League is by no means guaranteed on their European debut.

AZ Alkmaar are certainly no pushovers and they will back themselves to come away from Selhurst Park with a positive result.

FDA Recalls Choice Irish Cream Flavoured Drink Over Dangerous Adulteration

0
FDA

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an urgent public warning over the safety of Choice Irish Cream Flavoured Drink, manufactured by 1 Africa Industries Limited, after laboratory tests revealed the presence of an undeclared drug substance, Sildenafil Citrate, in the product.

In a statement issued by the FDA and sighted by The Chronicle ,it explained that Sildenafil Citrate, a prescription-only medication commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension, should not be present in food products. The drink is registered with the FDA strictly as an alcoholic beverage, and the addition of any drug substance is considered illegal and hazardous to public health.

According to the FDA, the consumption of this adulterated drink poses serious health risks, including dangerous interactions with medications such as nitroglycerin, which can cause sudden drops in blood pressure, heart attack, or stroke. Long-term effects of Sildenafil use may also include loss of vision or hearing, painful prolonged erections, and psychological dependence.

The FDA has therefore advised the public to immediately refrain from purchasing or consuming the product. Authorities are working closely with 1 Africa Industries Limited to recall the affected drinks from the market for safe disposal, and regulatory actions are being initiated against the company for violating Section 100(4) of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).

Consumers, retailers, and distributors are urged to report anyone offering Choice Irish Cream Flavoured Drink for sale to the nearest FDA office to ensure the product is removed from circulation.

The FDA emphasizes that adulteration of food products is a serious offence, and strict measures are being taken to safeguard public health.

Silence is Complicity: Coalition Charges Citizens to Condemn Illegal Mining

0

The Coalition Against Galamsey, Ghana, has charged Ghanaians including civil society organisations, traditional rulers, the media, and religious bodies to speak up boldly against illegal mining, which is euphemistically known as galamsey.

In a statement titled “Violent Attack Against NAIMOS Personnel and the Need for Stronger National Measures,” the Coalition said silence in the face of environmental destruction and political interference in anti-galamsey operations only encourages impunity and weakens national resolve.

According to the Coalition, environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires the active involvement of every Ghanaian. It warned that the country cannot afford to normalise violence against state officials who are mandated to protect its natural heritage.

“Environmental protection is a shared responsibility, and silence in the face of unlawful political conduct encourages further impunity,” the statement declared. “Our country cannot afford to normalise violence against state officials. Nor can we allow political authority to be used to shield environmental destruction, undermine enforcement, or compromise national security.”

The Coalition expressed deep concern about the recent violent attack on officers of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) in the Asutifi North area of the Ahafo Region, describing the incident as a grave threat to national security and democratic governance. It noted that reports suggesting a sitting Member of Parliament mobilised or encouraged community members to confront law enforcement officials “represent a dangerous precedent and an assault on the rule of law.”

While condemning the attack, the Coalition insisted that citizens and civil society groups have a moral duty to speak out and hold leaders accountable in the ongoing national fight against galamsey. “Ghana cannot win the fight against galamsey if elements entrusted with public authority undermine enforcement and foster impunity,” it stressed.

The group called for an end to political interference in the work of security and enforcement agencies and urged the President, Parliament, and security institutions to act decisively to protect NAIMOS officers from further harm.

It also appealed to faith-based organisations, the media, and traditional leaders to use their platforms to raise awareness and push for accountability, stressing that silence and neutrality are no longer options in the face of growing ecological and social harm caused by illegal mining.

The Coalition noted that Ghana’s rivers are polluted with mercury and heavy metals, forests are being degraded, and the livelihoods of millions are under threat. It said the struggle against illegal mining must not be left solely to government agencies, warning that “every Ghanaian who stays silent becomes complicit in the destruction of our environment and future.”

Reiterating its position, the Coalition said Ghana stands at a critical moment where decisive leadership, citizen participation, and collective action are essential to preserve the environment, safeguard the rule of law, and secure the future of generations yet unborn.

It concluded with a firm reminder: “The Republic must act firmly and transparently to protect its officers, safeguard its natural heritage, and defend the rule of law — but it will take every citizen’s voice to make that possible.”

Aplus Petitions Speaker to Remove Abena Osei Asare as PAC Chair

0

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng AKA Aplus, has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to remove Hon. Abena Osei Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), citing concerns over integrity, transparency, and conflict of interest.

In a letter addressed to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament on Tuesday, November 3, Asare Obeng argued that Hon. Osei Asare’s current position as PAC Chair undermines the credibility of Parliament’s oversight functions, given her previous role as Deputy Minister of Finance during a period he described as marked by “reckless borrowing, fiscal indiscipline, and multiple controversial contracts.”

“The Public Accounts Committee remains one of Parliament’s most critical instruments for ensuring transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of public funds,” the letter stated. “It is therefore deeply concerning that Hon. Abena Osei Asare, former Deputy Minister of Finance, now serves as the Chairperson of this important Committee.”

According to the Gomoa Central MP, Osei Asare’s close association with the Ministry of Finance and former Minister Ken Ofori-Atta compromises her impartiality, given that several controversial deals under their tenure are currently under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

These include the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) contract, the ECG–Beijing Jao Loss Reduction agreement, and the Service Ghana Auto Limited ambulance procurement deal.

Asare Obeng also criticized Osei Asare’s defense of the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, over his refusal to disclose his age, describing it as an act that “raises serious doubts about her commitment to transparency and accountability.”

“It is morally indefensible for Hon. Abena Osei Asare to preside over a Committee that demands accountability from newly appointed officials on matters that occurred under her direct watch as Deputy Minister of Finance,” the MP emphasized.

Suspected Nigerian Human Trafficker Arrested

0

The Police have issued a statement on a suspected human trafficking syndicate following the rescue of a 15-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked from Nigeria to Ghana for sexual exploitation.

According to the statement from the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tarkwa, officers arrested 25-year-old Joy Ogbonna, a Nigerian national, at Aboso near Tarkwa on Monday, November 3, 2025, in connection with the case. Police said the arrest followed a report by the victim’s father, Ogbonno Onuigbo, who disclosed that his daughter went missing in October 2025 in Nigeria.

The teenager later contacted him on October 24, informing him that she had been trafficked and abused in Ghana. Preliminary investigations revealed that a woman identified as Golden Blessing, now on the run, lured the victim from Enugu to Lagos under the pretext of offering her a cleaning job. She later handed the girl over to Joy Ogbonna, who transported her to Tarkwa.

Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly confined the girl in a room, forced her into sex work, and collected the proceeds. A medical report confirmed that the victim was five weeks pregnant at the time of rescue. Police say the suspect, Joy Ogbonna, is currently in custody and will be arraigned before court soon, while efforts are ongoing to arrest her accomplice, Golden Blessing, believed to be hiding in Nigeria.

The Western Central Regional Police Command commended the public for their timely intervention and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling human trafficking networks and protecting vulnerable persons from all forms of exploitation.
