North Korea in lockdown over first ever Covid case

0
Kim Jong-un wears face mask for the first time since the pandemic began

North Korea has ordered a strict national lockdown after confirming its first official Covid infections. State media have reported an Omicron outbreak in the capital, Pyongyang, but did not state the number of cases. North Korea has rejected any kind of vaccine programme, even when offered a supply by other countries.

Instead, it controlled Covid by sealing its borders – and had never recorded a case, despite experts believing the virus has long been present.

Outsiders say the nation’s 25 million population is vulnerable due to the lack of a Covid-19 vaccine programme, even rejecting offers from the international community to supply millions of AstraZeneca and Chinese-made Sinovac jabs last year.

There have also been concerns about North Korea’s impoverished healthcare system.

KCNA said leader Kim Jong-un had vowed to eradicate the outbreak, which it called a “severe national emergency” that had breached the country’s “quarantine front”. North Korea’s strategy of sealing its foreign borders – one of the first countries to do so, in January 2020 – has also stopped essential supplies from entering the country, leading to food shortages and a faltering economy.

CCTV shows Russian soldiers killing Ukrainian civilians

Murdered Ukrainian civilians

When Leonid Pliats and his boss were shot in the back by Russian soldiers, the killing was captured on CCTV cameras in clear and terrible detail. The footage, which was obtained by the BBC, is now being investigated by Ukrainian prosecutors as a suspected war crime.

It was the height of the fighting around Kyiv and the main roads into the capital were a battlefield, including around the bicycle shop where Leonid worked as a security guard.

But this was no firefight: the video clearly shows five heavily armed Russian soldiers shooting the two unarmed Ukrainians and then looting the business. We have pieced together the full sequence of events, matching what was recorded on multiple CCTV cameras around the site with the testimony of people Leonid phoned that day, as well as the Ukrainian volunteer fighters who tried to rescue him. The Russians arrive in a stolen van daubed with the V sign used by Russian forces and the words Tank Spetsnaz in black paint. They wear Russian military uniform and approach with their guns up, fingers on the triggers.

Leonid walks towards the soldiers with his hands up to show he’s unarmed and no threat.

Microblading Health Risks

0
Artificial eye eyebrows

Microblading is a type of cosmetic tattoo. A technician draws eyebrow “hairs” with a special tool that has tiny needles on the end. They make fine cuts and fill them with color. The color usually lasts about a year. All tattoos fade over time — it just happens faster with microblading. The procedure is generally considered safe and most people don’t have problems. But there are risks. Here’s what you need to know.

Risks

Microblading could cause:

Infection. If your technician uses dirty water or equipment, they can spread bacteria like staphylococcus (staph). They could also spread viruses like HIV, hepatitis, or herpes. Sometimes the ink is contaminated with bacteria or mold. There’s no guarantee it’s safe, even if the package is sealed. You doctor might give you antibiotics, antivirals, or antifungals if you get an infection.

Allergic reaction. You might get an itchy rash from the ink. That could be a sign of an allergic reaction. It’s rare, but it happens most often with the color red. Red is sometimes mixed with black dye to make a shade that matches your natural brows. You may need steroid shots or antihistamines.

Granulomas. Microblading injects a foreign substance into your skin. Your body may try to protect you by making inflammatory knots around the area. It may not happen right away. Granulomas sometimes happen months or years after the procedure. You’ll need to take steroids or antibiotics to get better.

Sarcoidosis. This is when you get more than one granuloma. They may grow on your organs. In one study, they showed up 15 years after a patient got a traditional eyebrow tattoo. The treatment is the same.

Keloids. These are scars that grow bigger than normal. They don’t usually happen on your face. But if you’ve had keloids before, you may get them from microblading.

MRI problems. It’s not common, but tattooed skin can swell or burn if you get an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Your skin will go back to normal after the procedure. If you need one, be sure to tell your doctor or radiologist about the microblading.

The FDA doesn’t regulate tattoo shopsor cosmetic salons. But they do watch out for problems. You just have to report them. If you have a bad reaction, let the FDA know.

Don’t worry if your eyebrows get a little dark and flaky. That’s a normal part of the healing process.

How to Find a Technician

You can start by asking a board-certified dermatologist. They don’t do microblading, but they may point you in the right direction.

People who do permanent makeup should have a certain amount of training. But regulation isn’t the same everywhere. Some states think it’s a tattoo. Others don’t. That means your technician may or may not have to stick to strict health standards.

It can be hard to know if you’ve found a good technician. Read reviews and look at before and after photos. Check out how clean the shop is before you get work done.

Ask the technician these questions before you get microblading:

Do you use new needles and sterile equipment with each client?

Is your shop inspected and licensed by the health department?

How much experience do you have with microblading?

How many hours of training do you have?

Where did you go for training?

What to Expect During and After

Most technicians put a numbing cream on your eyebrows before they start. But microblading can still be uncomfortable for some people. It may feel like little scratches.

It should take about 10-14 days for your eyebrows to heal. Don’t pick at your skin. That could cause scarring. Just let it fall off.

It’s important to follow the instructions your technician gives you. If they want you to use a moisturizing cream, use a cotton swab to put it on. Keep your face clean. But don’t touch your eyebrows too much or get them really wet. That can expose you to bacteria. You should stay out of the pool and skip sweaty workouts for the first week.

When to See a Doctor

See your doctor right away if:

You have a fever.

You’re bleeding.

You’re in a lot of pain.

The area is oozing, smells bad, or feels warm.

The area keeps getting redder.

This could be a sign of an infection or allergy.

100 TRUTHS ABOUT JESUS – PART II

0
Rev. Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee

The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!” – Matthew 8:27.

INTRODUCTION

We continue this week with 100 Truths about our Lord Jesus Christ to strengthen our faith in Him. Enjoy and share with others.

  1. Jesus makes many righteous – Romans 5:19; or just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
  2. Jesus is the image of the invisible God – Hebrews 1:3; The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
  3. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit – John 15:26; When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.
  4. Jesus abides forever – Hebrews 7:24; but because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood.
  5. Jesus offered up Himself – Hebrews 7:27; Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for His own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when He offered Himself.
  6. Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins for all time – Hebrews 10:12; But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
  7. The Son of God has given us understanding – 1 John 5:20; We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
  8. Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith – Hebrews 12:2; fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  9. Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven – John 14:1-4;Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.
  10. Jesus cleanses us from our sins by His blood – Romans 5:9; Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him!
  11. Jesus is the Light of the world – Romans 9:5; Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.
  12. Jesus has explained the Father – John 1:18; No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[a]is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
  13. Jesus was crucified because of weakness – 2 Corinthians 13:4; or to be sure, He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in Him, yet by God’s power we will live with Him in our dealing with you.
  14. Jesus has overcome the world – John 16:33; I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
  15. Truth is in Jesus – Ephesians 4:21; when you heard about Christ and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
  16. The fruit of righteousness comes through Jesus Christ – Phil 1:11; filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
  17. Jesus delivers us from the wrath to come – 1 Thessalonians 1:10; and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
  18. 18. Disciples bear witness of Jesus Christ – John 15:27; And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
  19. Jesus died and rose again – 1 Thessalonians 4:14; For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
  20. The Christian dead have fallen asleep in Jesus – 1 Thessalonians 4:15; According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
  21. Jesus died for us – 1 Thessalonians 5:10;He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
  22. Jesus tasted death for everyone – Hebrews 2:9; But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
  23. Jesus rendered the devil powerless – Hebrews 2:14; Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil.
  24. Jesus is able to save completely – Hebrews 7:25; Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.
  25. Jesus was a ransom for many and to serve – Matthew 20:28; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
  26. Jesus came to be a high priest – Hebrews 2:17;For this reason He had to be made like them]fully human in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people.
  27. Jesus came to save – John 3:17; For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
  28. Jesus came to preach the kingdom of God – Luke 4:43; But He said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”
  29. Jesus came to bring division – Luke 12:51; Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.
  30. Jesus came to do the will of the Father – John 6:38; For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me.
  31. Jesus came to give the Father’s words – John 17:8; For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
  32. Jesus came to testify to the truth – John 18:37; You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.
  33. Jesus came to die and destroy Satan’s power – Hebrews 2:14; Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—

  36. Jesus came to taste death for everyone – Hebrews 2:9; But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
  37. Jesus came to proclaim freedom for believers – Luke 4:18;The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free

Gov’t must decisively deal with galamsey menace -Methodist Bishop

Bishop Asamoah- Agyei (left) raises the hand of the new Lay Chairman (Right

The Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, Rt. Rev. Baffour Asamoah-Agyei, has noted with concern the massive devastation caused to the country’s forests as a result of ‘Galamsey’ (illegal mining) operation. He has, therefore, called on the government to face the menace head-on and deal with it decisively before it gets out of hand.

Speaking at the 25th Annual Diocesan Synod of the Church at Obuasi, the Bishop said Ghana could achieve self-sufficiency in rice production by 2024, but the land which could be used for rice production was being used for galamsey operations without any proper reclamation for future use.

A section of the congregation

He noted: “Unfortunately as a nation, we are not looking at galamsey’s negative impact on the land and water bodies, human life, wild life, crop and animal production, climatic conditions and vegetation, rather we are politicising its operations,” further stating: “The galamsey menace is a threat to crop and animal production and to food security.”

On national unity, Bishop Asamoah-Agyei said the country had embraced a democratic form of government over the years, “but unfortunately, we have allowed partisan politics to divide us.”

He noted that the politics of insults, with the young having no respect for the aged, was alien to the Ghanaian culture and must stop. “Our culture of tolerance, respect for the elderly and patriotism should not be sacrificed on the altar of party’s politics.”

Touching on the government’s flagship programme of Planting For Export and Rural Development, the Diocesan Bishop noted that the programme was going to have a tremendous impact not only on farmers, but the nation as a whole, and encouraged farmers in the church to take advantage of the initiative to uplift their social and financial status.

The 4-Days Synod elected Evangelist Gabriel Nyamekye-Odum as the new Diocesan Lay Chairman who replaces Sister Beatrice Hammond whose term of office ends in September this year.

Feature: NPP remembers “Kumepreko” Demonstration

0
Kumepreko demonstration

Wednesday 11 May 2022, was the 27th anniversary of a hardly commemorated event, the “kumepreko” demonstration against the new Value Added Tax (VAT) introduced by the then NDC Government at 17.5%.

On that day, eight people, unarmed citizens demonstrating peacefully, were gunned down in broad day sunshine by members of the ruling NDC, specifically, the ACDR (Association of Committees for the Defence of the Revolution) a wing of the then ruling party. Even though evidence pointed to specific individuals, no one was eventually punished for those brutal murders. The tax was temporarily withdrawn to be reintroduced at 10%.

But did eight Ghanaian citizens have to be executed in the streets of Accra just for holding a different point of view? Commemorated for the infamy of unfettered violence and murder committed by the NDC Government, the event takes on new significance with the advent of the e-levy. Reluctant to invest the hard-earned revenue of the British Crown, the British Government handed over management of the lucrative coastline to merchants whose focus was to impose as much order as was necessary to facilitate extraction of goods for export and profit. In 1852, the Colonial Administration passed the Poll Tax Ordinance of one shilling a year per head of household to fund development. Six years later it was repealed after major, sometimes violent compliance complications.

The British then abandoned us to our own devises through indirect rule but invested in infrastructure suitable to their needs. Railways, bridges and roads to the mines, a port at Takoradi to extract the timber, and exclusive residential areas and segregated hospitals. Governor Gordon Guggisberg is popular for his inclusive infrastructure and economic opportunities, but he did not solve the conundrum of providing widespread social infrastructure without a steady internal cash flow.

Thus, Prime Minister Nkrumah inherited a treasury filled with dividends from commercial trading in gold, diamonds, timber, and cocoa and hardly any income taxes. As the value of our state commercial tradables have declined, so has our ability to fund development. We do not have sufficient hospital beds, enough schools, adequate roads, fair housing, widespread portable water, or reliable energy.

Mostly because just like the colonial NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY Headquarters, Private Mail Bag, Accra-North, Ghana Tel: +233 0302 264329/264288Fax: +233 0302 229 048 Email: nppdcom@gmail.comWebsite: www.newpatrioticparty.org DEVELOPMENT IN FREEDOM NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY British Government, we are hesitant about the rather sensitive matter of taxing ourselves sufficiently to meet the cost of our basic development needs. It is now clear however, that borrowing is no longer an option. There is no debt market kind enough to lend cheaply and in numbers big enough to meet our need for hospitals, schools, railways, bridges, roads, airports, portable water, affordable housing, cheap energy, and processed food. Moreover, these long-term investments are challenged by weak servicing streams and therefore not attractive or even easily accessed if available. In the meantime, we are regaled with hilarious, yet serious facile political talk of which party is best at borrowing and managing debt for political advantage.

Without adequate sustainable revenues, no government can meet national voter expectations of the development gap. As government needs have grown, so has revenue shrunk and expectations risen. So, the Nana Addo led New Patriotic Party Government has embarked on vigorous internal processes to beat the Poll Tax jinx. Happy indeed, is the news that Momo operators are now backing the e-levy, a universal, gentle tax with potential to raise significant amounts of development funding.

Coupled with the conversion of the Ghana Card to a tax identity, a masterstroke that expands the income tax net from a low of two and a half million to potential to mine fifteen million identities, Ghana under the NPP is poised to make a difference in infrastructure funding. Especially if we can also collect fair property taxes effectively.

In the context of internal taxation challenges over the years, the NPP congratulates the President Akufo-Addo Government, for its bold and honest governance posture, persistently engaging the people on what’s best for the future and delivering on same. In conclusion, it’s important to recognise the high level of professionalism with which the AkufoAddo administration and its security and collection agencies have handled tax matters.

Unlike in the past, militias and security agencies are not dispatched to shoot and kill citizens who disagree with tax measures. Instead, ministers of the Government are dispatched to travel the country and engage citizens to explain the rationale of the policy. This alternative is obviously preferable. We thank the people of Ghana for accepting the e-levy in the hope that this anniversary of ‘Kumepreko’ inspires us to adopt best practices in tax collection, whilst consigning bitter memories of protest and violence to the dustbin of history. God Bless Our Homeland Ghana

Steadfast FC banned from using Tamale Stadium after fans attack opponents

The damaged bus

Division One League club, Steadfast FC have been banned from using the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale as their home ground by the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council.

The GFA’s decision comes after the players and officials of Nsoatreman FC were “held hostage” by supporters of the Steadfast FC after their league game on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

The GFA said its Competitions Department will pick new home venues for Baffour Soccer Academy’s remaining games “taking into consideration the distance to be travelled by the away teams.”

“The Association is shocked and extremely alarmed at the holding of the team officials and players of the Away Team-Nsoatreman FC hostage at the Tamale Sports Stadium in the Northern Region by the home supporters,” he said.

The FA said it sees any attack on any officials or players as “an attack against the entire sport, it being, unwarranted and criminal,” given the extensive processes put in place to address grievances.

The away side were reportedly prevented from leaving after the match and had their bus pelted with missiles by fans of the home team, resulting in players and officials of Steadfast sustaining injuries.

The bus was eventually escorted out of the town by the police, further reports indicated.

“Considering the fact that the GFA has a process for complaining about any alleged bad officiating (if any) for redress through the Match Review Panel, the Executive Council of the Association sees any attack on the match officials and any participant of the game as an attack against the entire sport, it being, unwarranted and criminal,” the GFA’s statement said.

Baba Yara Stadium

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the Baba Yara Stadium will host this year’s MTN FA Cup final.

In April, it was revealed that Kumasi would host the final, and while the Baba Yara was heavily tipped as the preferred venue, there was no official confirmation that the match would be played there until now.

Bechem United will play Aduana Stars in the first semi-final, with defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak taking on Dreams FC in the other match.

The FA also announced the venues for a number of other local competitions last month.

This season’s Women’s Premier Super Cup will be played in the Northern Region.

Along with the FA Cup final, the Ashanti Region will also host the KGL Inter-Regional Challenge Cup.

After the Inter-Regional Challenge Cup is completed the teams that qualify will play in the KGPL inter-club U-17 Champions League in the Greater Accra Region.

Black Stars will deliver at the World Cup; C.K Akonnor

C.K Akonnor

Former Black Stars head coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor believes the national team can make a positive impact at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Following their failure to secure qualification to the last edition of the Mundial, the Black Stars booked their ticket to Qatar after beating Nigeria on aggregate during the qualifiers in Africa.

Akonnor, who was at the helm of affairs during the start of the World Cup qualifiers before the appointment of Milovan Rajevac and Otto Addo is confident with the right preparation and support, Ghana could make the nation proud at the global showpiece.

“Of course, they can. You look at how they prepared against Nigeria, it tells you there is a brain behind what they are doing,” Akonnor told Footballghana.com

“I was impressed with how the team played against Nigeria and so I have no doubt that the team will perform in Qatar. The technical team that was put in place exhibited that they know their whereabouts and we saw it on the pitch.

“I am confident the team will have good preparation and deliver at the World Cup,” he added.

Ghana have drawn into Group H, where they will play been Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
