Tinubu Support group seeks court order against Central Bank Governor

A group under the aegis of South-South Agenda for Tinubu/Shettima (SSAT), one of the APC/Tinubu Support Groups in the South-South has announced that their legal battle to seek judicial reprieve for the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele from office will commence this week at a Federal High Court, Abuja.

It said this would pave the way for the forensic probe of the CBN Governor and his activities since assumption of office, including his top management staff and aides.

Making the announcement in a press release made available to journalists, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Bitrus Nta Oliver said the legal action had become imperative after the endless wait for the cleansing of the apex Bank, to help rescue the dwindling economy and save President Muhammadu Buhari’s legacies.

The group had few weeks ago called on President Buhari to suspend Emefiele from office over what they described as ‘abuse of office’.

The group threatened to commence legal action if the President failed to act.

They said in the statement that “after many weeks of waiting, we are now left with no option but to take the patriotic step of launching a legal action to help save the economy from Emefiele’s mismanagement.”

“SSAT intends to secure an order for the NFIU, DSS, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), and the CBN board to investigate the Bank, Emefiele, his top management staff and personal aides who are allegedly part of the problem the Nigerian economy is facing,” it said.

The group said that there is no way the alleged rots in mismanagement, financial recklessness and corruption that have allegedly happened in the CBN “can be exposed when Emefiele is still presiding, hence the need for the legal action and an injunctive order to restrain and suspend him from office while investigations and deep audit is carried out by the relevant security agencies to help unearth the sleaze that might have been perpetrated in the bank.”

GMA engages stakeholders on the Adequacy and Efficiency of Port Reception Facilities and Activities

In keeping with its mandate of enforcing international maritime conventions in Ghana, the Ghana Maritime Authority(GMA) has met with representatives of port reception facilities (PRFs) to discuss gaps that exist when performing their functions at the ports.

The meeting which took place in Accra also had the participation of key stakeholder institutions who play some role in Ghana’s implementation of the MARPOL 73/78 Convention.

These include the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) among others.

The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) was established, to prevent ships from polluting the marine environment.

Signatories to this convention, including Ghana are required to provide adequate port reception facilities to receive ship waste ashore.

At the meeting, discussions centered on illegal practices by some port reception facilities at port and onboard ships, noncompliance issues pertaining to the use of vessels, boats and crafts, and compliance issues regarding the reception and management of ship waste.

Other subjects discussed included the role of national regulatory agencies such as Customs in the promotion or hindrance of efficient port reception activities.

Chief Engineer at the Tema branch of the GMA, Engineer Emmanuel Tukpeyi revealed that the Authority has discovered that some workers of PRFs connive with Shipping agents to extort money from ship captains when they visit vessels for waste collection.

The Director in charge of Technical Services at GMA, Captain Inusah Abdul Nassir, cautioned port reception facilities to engage in only waste collection.

He emphasized that PRFs cannot pose as regulators when they board vessels in-port.

Representatives of the National Petroleum Authority present, also raised concerns over an alleged illegal fuel trade suspected to be linked to activities of some port reception facilities.

On the part of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority who contract these PRF’s at the ports, Daniel Asare, Estate and Environment Manager at the Port of Tema, appealed on the Ghana Revenue Authority to revise its position on charging VAT.

He opined that with the activity of Port Reception facilities not being inherently commercial but an environmental initiative, charging VAT to ships will add up to the cost involved and discourage compliance.

Adding his voice to the subject, Kwaku Ennin, Founder and CEO of Zeal Environmental Technologies, one of the PRFs, called for the issue of VAT to be addressed at a higher level involving the Ministers of Finance and Transport in order to arrive at a speedy, long lasting resolution of the issue.

Camidoh

Ghanaian singer and sugarcane hitmaker, Camidoh has explained people label him as a Nigerian other than Ghana because of how he sounds, his style, and his vibe. However, Camidoh finds this mistaken identity as genuine love expressed by the people and he enjoys the attention that comes with it.

“People still think I’m Nigerian. Some think I’m Kenyan, but I feel like it’s cool. It’s okay because, the fact that they even look at you or study you and think a certain thing about you, it feels like you have their attention. It feels like people love you and that is the only reason they speculate. So it’s fine.”

The ‘Sugarcane’ hitmaker also spoke on his topic choice when making songs, he noted that some song topics aren’t his thing although people, including his mother, have asked him to make songs addressing social issues like galamsey, he prefers songs about life and love.

According to him, he loves LOVE and life is equally beautiful when you picture it differently with all the good things therefore he likes to talk about those.

“I feel like I make records about life situations and all of that. I remember making a song about how people make decisions. I make all those types of stuff. But developmental, I don’t think I will. I only make songs that I’m inspired to do. And I feel like God puts different agendas in the hearts of different people. So, when I’m blessed with a certain topic, I make it.” he said

Camidoh is out with a new song, ‘Slow’, featuring Nigerian musician Magixx, available on all music platforms.

Obiang re-elected for sixth term as president of E Guinea

Equatorial Guinea president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo

In Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has been re-elected to a sixth term as president with 94.9 percent of the votes cast, election officials announced on Saturday, putting turnout at 98 percent. Eighty-year-old Obiang, who seized power in a 1979 coup, is the longest-ruling head of state in the world excluding monarchs. He has never officially been re-elected with less than 93 percent of the vote.

Electoral commission head Faustino Ndong Esono Eyang confirmed that Obiang would serve another seven years in the top job. The commission said the turnout rate for the election was 98 percent.

The result was widely expected in the oil-rich and authoritarian central African nation, where the political opposition is extremely weak.

Obiang had the backing of a coalition of 15 parties, including his all-powerful ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE). The PDGE, which was the country’s only legal political movement until 1991, also swept all seats in the National Assembly and the Senate.
