The former Black Stars right-back has reunited with the ‘Oly Dade’ boys on a free transfer after ending his stay at Asante Kotoko.
Ghana Premier League side Great Olympics have announced the signing of Christopher Nettey in the ongoing transfer window. The 24-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move to Hearts of Oak, has joined the city-rivals of the Phobians after a fruitful discussion.
Nettey left reigning Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko in December 2022 following the expiration of his contract.
The Accra-born featured for Great Olympics during the 2017/18 season on a season-long loan deal from Attram De Visser.
He made 62 appearances in all competitions for Kotoko across the three years he spent at the club, scoring once in the process.
Nettey played 18 matches last season to help the Porcupines win the Ghana Premier League title for the first time in eight years.
Medeama winger Zakaria Mumuni has left the club following the expiration of his contract, the club has announced.

Ghana’s deputy Sports Minister Evans Opoku Bobie says the Sports Ministry did not promise to pay $5000 and $10,000 as qualification bonus to the Black Galaxies at the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
The Ghanaian Politician was giving clarity to the issue on the reported rift in the Black Galaxies camp due to the players unhappy about the government’s financial obligation to them.
According to reports, the players had been promised $5,000 and the coach getting $10,000 as qualification bonus.
Mr Bobie revealed that the Sports Ministry did not approve of paying the players of the said amount.
Speaking in an interview to clarify the issues and the reported row in the Black Galaxies camp he said, “The GFA brought their budget to the Ministry in relation to the Galaxies, promising the players $5,000 and $10,000 for the Head Coach when the Ministry had not approved the said amount.
“The Ministry approved of $3,000 for the players and $6,000 for the Head Coach and informed the GFA to let the team be in the known but after 48 hours, they were not able to do so”.
“As a Ministry, we cannot pay what has been promised but what is on paper. The GFA officials should have waited for the approval before they informed the players”.
“So the coaches informed us of some displeasure among the players and that was the reason we needed to come in to speak to the senior players [Awako, Barnieh and Danlad]. The players have each received their cheques of $3,000”, Evans Opoku Bobie explained.
Ghana will face Niger in the quarter final of the CHAN on Saturday in Oran.
The message was described in court by a judge as “exceptionally offensive” and had “racial overtones”. District Judge Paul Currer, sitting at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, said he considered the matter to be “very serious”.
After the judge told Neill, of Robert Street, to return for sentencing on 30 March, the defendant said: “I’m sorry for what I said to Ivan [Toney].
“I’m disgusted and ashamed and want to become a better person.”
Earlier, Kash Khan, mitigating, told the court Neill was “extremely remorseful” and had been under the influence of a “significant amount of alcohol”.
Neill was living away from his family at the time in an area where he did not know people and “behaved in a way he would never dream of acting”, his solicitor said. The court was also told Neill’s family had tried to extend an apology to Brentford before police became involved.
Mark Clattenburg has left his job as the head of Egypt‘s refereeing committee over safety concerns, after reportedly receiving threats from a set of supporters and personal attacks from club officials.
The former Premier League referee took up the role last August, where he was tasked with boosting the performance of officials in Egypt.
But Clattenburg has been heavily criticised by Mortada Mansour, the president of Zamalek Sporting Club, the 14-time record winners of the Egyptian Premier League.
Mansour criticised Clattenburg’s role within Egyptian football, according to The Sun. In one TV appearance, Mansour called out the Englishman for corruption while holding a similar role in Saudi Arabia, describing him as a ‘bribed man’ and suggesting that he gave certain referees certain matches in order to ensure the matches finished early. The claims are entirely baseless.
Khaled Abu Bakr, a prominent lawyer in Egypt, has called for urgent government intervention to address the accusations of corruption against Clattenburg, warning that the situation could do untold danger to the country’s international reputation in sport.
The 47-year-old has also reportedly faced threats from Zamalek supporters, prompting his departure. The Egyptian Football Association confirmed Clattenburg has resigned from his post, but the organisation says his exit still needs to be ratified.
Tottenham have signed Netherlands forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal until the end of the season. The 25-year-old becomes their first signing of the January transfer window, and had been expected to join Everton before Spurs made a late move.
Danjuma played for Bournemouth from 2019 to 2021, scoring 17 goals in 52 games before moving to La Liga. He has six caps, scoring two goals, but did not make the Netherlands squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Danjuma played a key role in Villarreal’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions for the Spanish club.
He appeared to have agreed terms with Everton over the weekend, but before he could sign his contract Tottenham made their move.
His arrival adds to Spurs’ attacking options alongside Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Lucas Moura.
Antonio Conte’s side are fifth in the Premier League and moved within three points of the top four with a 1-0 win at Fulham on Monday.
We the undersigned NDC Members of Parliament have taken note of a letter signed by our party General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey, dated 23/01/23 and addressed to the Speaker of Parliament. The letter purportedly makes changes to the leadership of our caucus.
With all due respect to the leadership of our party at all levels, we wish to request that they patiently broaden and deepen consultations on the subject again because we have doubts about how thorough the process was.
We are concerned that this critical decision didn’t seem to have taken into consideration the unity of purpose and focus our caucus requires to deal with; the Electoral Commission’s intentions to introduce a new CI, the government’s IMF negotiations and its intended reintroduction of the Agyapa deal before the House. We also think this decision would have unintended consequences as we go into our Parliamentary primaries.
Therefore in the light of the Partys’ National Executive Committee’s decision at its last meeting to extend the mandate of all Directors to the end of May 2023.
We respectfully request that to extend to all levels of leadership of the party, including Parliament.
Until then, without disregarding the letter signed by the General Secretary of our party and without malice towards our colleagues proposed as new leaders, we the undersigned NDC members of Parliament resolve to stand by our current leadership, until the process of consultation is satisfactory to all concerned.

Messrs Haruna Iddrisu and Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak
Supporters massed up at NDC Tamale Regional Office
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) appears to have used and dumped members of its current leadership in Parliament. The party dropped a bombshell yesterday when it reshuffled the leaders who have been leading the Minority side in Parliament since 2017.
The rather shocking change saw the removal of Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader, the Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi and the Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.
The trio occupied key positions in the leadership of the minority, during which for the first time in history, an opposition party was able to win the Speakership position.
They have been replaced by Cassiel Ato Forson, the new Minority Leader, who was the spokesperson on finance. The others are Kofi Armah Buah, MP for Ellembelle, appointed as Deputy Minority Leader and Kwame Governs Agbodza, MP for Adaklu, as the Chief Whip.
The changes did not affect the first and second Deputy Chief Whips, Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyo Ghansah respectively.
OPPOSITION
The removal of the minority leadership is being opposed by Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who believes the party is only bringing in inexperienced legislators to steer the affairs of the Minority Caucus.
He is reported to have said the party ought to have consulted the caucus in Parliament before taking such a decision.
“The timing is completely wrong. What is the basis of changing our parliamentary leadership?” Myjoyonline reported.
“They are only taking away the most experienced leaders and bringing the less experienced ones. Nobody told them we are dissatisfied with the leadership. Who told them we are unhappy with their performance?” the disgruntled lawmaker quizzed.
Some supporters of the NDC in Tamale in the Northern Region, which is close to Haruna’s constituency, minutes after the news broke, massed up at the party’s regional office.
The supporters said the decision will not augur well for the party. They want the leadership of the party to rescind the decision or face their wrath.
ANTI-MAHAMA
The reshuffle in the leadership of the NDC party in parliament has been viewed by a section of the public as former president John Mahama flexing his muscles on his internal opponents.
A section of the supporters of the party, who have alleged that the Mahama agenda is in full flight, have criticised the decision by the party.
Rumors have it that, the new leadership of the party, led by Asiedu Nketiah is covertly and overtly working to ensure that Mahama is elected as the flag bearer of the NDC.
On several platforms, some executives have made indirect statements to the effect that they support the candidature of Mahama.
Many are worried about the modus-operandi of the Mahama camp, working to kick away anyone who will not support Mahama, and to completely takeover the party.
SIGNS OF MISTRUST
This paper has observed that the signs were on the wall on the mistrust of the leadership of the minority by the Adabraka based party leadership, way back in 2021, when now National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, was the General Secretary.
The party went hard on the leadership of the Minority in Parliament for approving some ministers for the second term of the Akufo-Addo government.
It would be recalled that Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer, heavily criticised the then leadership, accusing them of “brazenly defying the leadership of the party and betraying the collective good for their selfish interest.”
Sammy Gyamfi’s post on Facebook alleged that: “some [of the MPs] have sold their conscience but ours is intact. And we can work together to rebuild the party from the ashes of 3rd March 2021, which I call “Black Wednesday”- Our day of self-inflicted shame.”
Haruna Iddrisu had also suffered attacks on his comments made in support of the controversial E-Levy. He later denied his earlier statement that the minority was against the tax.
CHAIRMAN REACTS
However, the Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has justified the change in leadership of the party in Parliament, as well as the timing.
According to him, the change forms part of the reorganisation process to help the party capture political power during the 2024 elections.
Touching on the timing of the party’s decision and its intended effect, Mr. Nketiah stressed that the timing is in line with plans to fully prepare the party for the race ahead.
“In terms of why, what it tells you is that the only constant thing is change. Since the environment is changing, leadership must change along with the new environment,” he said.
General Mosquito explained further that as the days of the elections get closer, the debate on the floor of Parliament will change to issues on the economy, infrastructure and energy, hence it is important the NDC put the best in those fields to properly argue their stance.
“We know for instance that going into election 2024, the economy is going to be the major battle ground and many of the debates will focus on the economy. So you better put your best man in economy forward, that is what we have done.
“We also looked at energy. You know the petroleum and electricity challenges, so we needed to settle on Kofi Armah Buah, our former minister, to be the Deputy Minority Leader
“The other area is infrastructure, Kwame Agbodza being our man in infrastructure should play a key role that generally is what informed the changes” he added.
But, many have questioned how prudent it is for Ato Forson to replace Haruna Iddrisu, and Kwame Agbodza for Mohammed Muntaka Muraka, on the basis of the chairman’s explanation to the media.
They argued that anytime there was debate on specific sectors, the minority leadership had been ceding their time to experts on their side to debate.
Asiedu Nketia also told the media that the party looked at regional balance, and that the change had nothing to with the performance of the leaders.
“What it has a lot to do about is that the environment is changing, so if you are a football coach and the team you are facing and the game style they are adopting is not in keeping with the players you have put out there, you will do yourself a lot of good to make changes.”
He said the outgoing leadership has been duly informed through a “special letter,” but the entire Caucus is yet to be officially notified. Mr Nketiah said they will be informed when the House resumes.
Meanwhile, the outgoing minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has made a post on his social media page, subtly reacting to the change.
His official social media page was updated with an advice: “never let a wishbone grow where a backbone should be,” and ended that “I will, and forever serve my country.”
