KwabenaKwabena, a renowned Highlife Artiste has blamed mothers as the main cause of children’s bad relations with their fathers.

“I am a father, and how I feel within me about the children I have, and how I love them, I don’t think anyone hates their own children. If you find any man in any situation where he looks as if he doesn’t have a relationship with his children, or he is not around, mostly 90 per cent it is caused by the mothers,” he said.

Reflecting on his upbringing, the musician candidly admitted that his mother, at some point, realized her mistake in prioritizing her desires above fostering a healthy relationship between him and his father.

“At a point, they compete with the men to become the favourites. You are both parents, so why would you want to be their favourite? We all grew up not liking our fathers, it was until I grew up that I developed a relationship with my father. And women don’t see the impact of these things… My mum was guilty until she realized that she was wrong by wanting to get everything for herself.”

In an interview on Hitz FM, KwabenaKwabena said some mothers, in their desire to be the favoured parent, inadvertently create barriers between fathers and their children, disregarding the potential consequences.

From personal experience, KwabenaKwabena revealed that he, like many others, initially held negative sentiments towards his father until he matured and established a meaningful connection with him.

US judge sets August 14 start date for Donald Trump trial

Former US President Donald Trump

A federal judge in the United States has set August 14 as the initial trial date for former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case – an early schedule that will likely be delayed by pre-trial arguments.

US District Judge Aileen Cannon announced the date on Tuesday, a week after Trump was formally presented with 37 charges relating to mishandling secret government files. The former president, who is seeking the White House again in 2024, pleaded not guilty.

“This case is hereby set for a Criminal Jury Trial during the two-week period commencing August 14, 2023, or as soon thereafter as the case may be called,” Cannon wrote in a court order.

Arguments about what evidence can be admitted in trial usually take months to settle. Further complicating Trump’s prosecution is the need to set up a system to deal with classified documents at the heart of the case that cannot be seen by jurors and lawyers.

Still, Cannon’s tentative date signals intent to move forward with the case quickly.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the prosecution as well as other federal investigations in Trump’s possible misconduct, had promised to pursue a “speedy trial”.

“It’s very important for me to note that the defendants in this case must be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” the special counsel told reporters on June 9.

Rwanda genocide accused seeks asylum in South Africa

Fulgence Kayishema is one of the most wanted suspects in the 1994 Rwandan genocide

Lawyers representing Rwandan genocide suspect Fulgence Kayishema, who had been on the run for 22 years before his arrest last month, have told the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court that their client will apply for asylum on political grounds in South Africa.

It could delay his possible extradition to Rwanda for several years and significantly delay his trial on charges of genocide, complicity to genocide and crimes against humanity.

He is accused of directly participating in the killings as well as ordering the massacre on 15 April 1994 of 2,000 ethnic Tutsi people who were hiding in a Catholic Church in western Rwanda.

He was indicted in 2001 by the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), which has since closed, with his case being transferred to Rwanda for trial.

Mr Kayishema, now in his sixties, was arrested on a grape farm in South Africa’s Western Cape province last month.

He also faces 54 charges in South Africa related to fraud and contravening the immigration act.

On Tuesday, lawyer Juan Smuts said Mr Kayishema had abandoned his bail application, which had been due to be heard on Tuesday.

South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority has said Mr Kayishema’s asylum application has no bearing on the court proceedings in South Africa and that more charges will be added when he next appears in court in August.

He remains in custody.

About 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in Rwanda by ethnic Hutu extremists in 100 days in 1994.

Hunter Biden to plead guilty to federal tax charges, strikes deal on gun charge

President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden leave Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Johns Island, South Carolina, in August 2022

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, will plead guilty to two tax misdemeanors and struck a deal with federal prosecutors to resolve a felony gun charge, the Justice Department said Tuesday in court filings.

As part of the plea agreement, the Justice Department has agreed to recommend a sentence of probation for the two counts of failing to pay taxes in a timely matter for the years 2017 and 2018, according to sources. Hunter Biden owed at least $100,000 in federal taxes for 2017, and at least $100,000 in 2018, but did not pay what was due to the Internal Revenue Service by the deadlines.

A judge will have the final say on any sentence.

The plea deal will have immediate reverberations in the 2024 presidential race. It has already jumpstarted political criticism from Republicans of the Biden administration and the Justice Department in the wake of the 37-count federal criminal indictment filed against Donald Trump for his alleged mishandling of classified documents. Trump pleaded not guilty last week.

Hunter Biden leaves after President Joe Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to 17 people during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House in Washington, Thursday, July 7, 2022.

The latest on Hunter Biden’s federal investigation

The charges were detailed in a criminal filing in US District Court in Delaware, where the US Attorney David Weiss, a Trump appointee, has been conducting the investigation that at one time explored allegations of money laundering, foreign lobbying and other potential charges.

The investigation is ongoing, the Justice Department said Tuesday.
